Getting to the Start
St Albans Half Marathon starts in Verulamium Park in St Albans (AL1 2DL). Race Parking around
Verulamium park can become very busy, and Westminster Lodge Car Park is closed to participants,
so if you live locally please consider walking to the park or carpooling. If not, there are many options:
• By Train
St Albans City Station: 15 - 20 minute walk to Runners Village. Taxis and buses will be in operation.
St Albans Abbey Station: 5 minute walk to the Runners Village.
• Bus
St Albans is well connected on the local bus network but please note that Sunday services may be
limited. Many services stop in the town centre which is only a short walk to the Runners Village.
Please visit our website for a map of the bus network.
• Cycling
If you are planning to cycle, there is a cycle shelter available by the entrance to Westminster Lodge
Leisure Centre. Please remember to bring a lock as these are public bike parking facilities.
• By Car
St Albans is accessible from all major routes including the M1 and M25, however please be aware
that road closures and diversions will be in place from 9.50am and may affect your journey. Details
of road closures are available on our website.
Race parking will be signposted from major routes and you can download a Car Parking Map from
to you and cannot be swapped or resold.
Please fill in your medical details on the reverse.
Remember to bring safety pins and attach your
number to the FRONT of your top.
• Timing Chip - We will be using a number chip
timing method to give half marathon runners,
walkers and 5K runners an accurate finish time.
You will see a foam rectangle attached to the
reverse of your race number.
• Baggage - A free baggage facility will be
available in the Runners Village. Your baggage
tag is located at the bottom of your race
open 7am - 2pm.
• Medical - Medical information provided in your
• Timing Pens - For half marathon runners only.
For safety reasons, there will be four timing pens
at the start line this year. The colour of your race
based on the estimated finish time you gave in
correct colour pen which will be clearly marked.
Don’t worry; your chip time won’t start until you
cross the start line.
pacers to help you finish the race in a specific
Main Charity for 2017
We are delighted to announce that this year we will be supporting:
Rennie Grove Hospice Care
Rennie Grove Hospice Care provides care and support for patients diagnosed with cancer and
other life-limiting illness and their families. Every year through our 24/7 responsive Hospice at
Home service, our Family Support services and the range of Day Services at Grove House in St
Albans we care for thousands of local patients, giving them the choice to stay at home surrounded
by their families and friends.
All our services are provided at no cost to our patients or families but Rennie Grove needs to raise £7.2 million
every year to carry on caring. With only around 15% of this coming from the NHS, we are heavily reliant on the
local community and fundraising events such as the St Albans Half Marathon to fund the remainder.
‘‘
We would like to thank everyone
existing and new supporters who
voted for us. It has been great
to work with one of St Albans’
largest community events and
we look forward to cheering
the Rennie Grove team across
the finish line!
