Influence of video resolution on its Youtube search result ranking tested out by SeeZisLab

In our next experiment, SeeZisLab.com Team decided to test another supposition concerning such a problematic issue as Influence of video resolution on its search result ranking. This theory has both, its supporters and its opponents. Some bloggers are sure that a higher quality of content on their channel grants them advantage against their competitors in ranking. We’ll check in our experiment, if it is really so.

<strong>SeeZisLab</strong> Team c<strong>on</strong>tinue to break or prove myths c<strong>on</strong>cerning YouTube channel<br />

promoti<strong>on</strong>. This time we have <strong>tested</strong> <strong>out</strong> if <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>resoluti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> can really affect <strong>its</strong><br />

positi<strong>on</strong>s in YouTube <strong>search</strong> <strong>result</strong>s. Some y<strong>out</strong>ubers are sure that higher <str<strong>on</strong>g>resoluti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

provides them with competitive advantage as for <strong>ranking</strong>.

For experiment purposes, we took two virtual machines, c<strong>on</strong>comitantly registered <strong>on</strong>e<br />

YouTube account for each <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> them, and three channels were c<strong>on</strong>comitantly created for each<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> these two accounts. In order to obtain more precise <strong>result</strong>s, a total <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 15 pairs <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g><br />

files were created. In each pair, the <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g>s were identical as for their timing and bitrate; they<br />

were uploaded with the same tags, titles, and descripti<strong>on</strong>s. Videos were alike, but at the<br />

same time unique. The <strong>on</strong>ly difference was their <str<strong>on</strong>g>resoluti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g>: <strong>on</strong>e file in each pair had<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>resoluti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 720p, where as the other <strong>on</strong>e - 4K. Such a variance in <str<strong>on</strong>g>resoluti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> values was<br />

made <strong>on</strong> purpose, to make the influence more evident. Video files were uploaded to the<br />

channels simultaneously, <strong>by</strong> pairs.

Immediately after uploading, we took files’ rates in YouTube <strong>search</strong> <strong>result</strong>s as for tags,<br />

title, and descripti<strong>on</strong>. Paired <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g>s were located in YouTube <strong>search</strong> <strong>result</strong>s <strong>on</strong>e after<br />

another, inseparable. Neither <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g> with <str<strong>on</strong>g>resoluti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> 4K, nor the <strong>on</strong>e with 720p had the<br />

advantage. Thus, <str<strong>on</strong>g>resoluti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g> has no influence <strong>on</strong> <strong>its</strong> <strong>ranking</strong>.

The experiment was carried <strong>out</strong> for two weeks. We analyzed positi<strong>on</strong>s <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g>s in<br />

YouTube <strong>search</strong> <strong>result</strong>s <strong>on</strong> a daily basis. In two weeks after uploading the situati<strong>on</strong> did not<br />

change: paired <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g>s were still located <strong>on</strong>e after another, with<strong>out</strong> significant changes.

<strong>SeeZisLab</strong> Team have proved practically that <str<strong>on</strong>g>resoluti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> the <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g> file has no<br />

influence <strong>on</strong> <strong>its</strong> YouTube <strong>search</strong> <strong>result</strong> <strong>ranking</strong>. But it is necessary to take into account that<br />

the viewer wants to get the picture <str<strong>on</strong>g>of</str<strong>on</strong>g> ever higher quality, 4K TVs are getting more popular,<br />

and smartph<strong>on</strong>es have already turned from Full HD to 2K. So, when making <str<strong>on</strong>g>video</str<strong>on</strong>g>s (having<br />

<str<strong>on</strong>g>resoluti<strong>on</strong></str<strong>on</strong>g> that is comfortable for you), d<strong>on</strong>’t forget ab<strong>out</strong> viewer comfort.<br />
