Mobilizing the Church 

Mark 4: 1-9/Psalm 126: 6 

We praise God that our preaching point GMAD has been 

accorded the Local Church status during the 41st Session of 

the CAC in November 2016… and for that we wish GMAD new 

LCEC stewards and ex-officio stewards, God’s blessings as 

they move on to further build up GMAD for the glory of God. 

The 2017 theme for GMSJ and GMIB remains as Be A Faithful 

Sower… as we continually reach out to bring the sheaves 

into the Kingdom of God. May GMSJ and our preaching point 

GMIB… be a beacon shining forth for the glory of God… 

reaching out and faithfully ministering to all around us. 

To meet the growing needs of the church, we are looking into 

starting another Home Fellowship group that will cater to young 

working adults and their families. The church is also looking 

into areas where we can continue to encourage contribution 

and participation from all church members in church events 

so as to create a sense of belonging and bonding among all. 

Likewise, there are also emphasis given to… 

• Fast and Pray—to mobilize the whole church coming 

together to fast and pray 

• Evangelism—to train and equip everyone to make 

evangelism as our lifestyle 

• Encourage new blood to participate in the various ministries 

for the development of future leadership 

• Establishing a buddy system for new comers 

• Church planting—keeping in view and praying for a suitable 

location to start another preaching point in the near future 

We are also looking into the setting up of a media ministry 

that will look into the current audio-visual and church website, 

while the Ushering Ministry has now evolved into a full-fledged 

ministry by itself. The 2017–2018 LCEC stewards and exofficio

We need to consciously remind ourselves of our role that God 

has given us within this body of Christ…and as a church, God 

has called us into partnership with Him to fulfil the Great 

Commission. Let us hand in hand move forward to build up 

GMSJ with evangelism and outreach as part of our lifestyle 

in Christ Jesus. So, may every one of us who is redeemed by 

Jesus Christ, be faithful in our calling and as fellow brethren 

of GMSJ…let us together reach out in love and in God’s 

perfect timing, we will witness a bountiful harvest in GMSJ for 

His glory. We are Christ’s messengers to the world. Through 

the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, let us continue the practice of 

spreading the joy of Jesus as we follow His example, serving 

each other and others outside the 4-walls of the church.

( 一 ) 这时代需要福音 

这是个科技智识发达的时代 , 这是个许多人追 

求物质 , 文明享受的名与利的时代 ; 这世界每天 

都在变 , 灾难 , 祸患 , 战争有时令人无法躲避 , 

世态炎凉 , 人心诡诈 , 这似乎是个无根的世代 , 

在人生生命崎岖道路中多少人困倦 , 悲伤。似乎 

需要一道真光来照亮它。耶稣说 :“ 我就是世界 

的光 , 跟从我就不在黑暗里走 , 必要得著生命的 

光。” 这生命的光就是福音的传播。谁把这美好 

的信息传递给我们呢 ? 就是藉著宣教士 , 教牧 , 

传道 , 爱主的信徒等人的工作。 

( 二 ) 传福音是耶稣吩咐每位信徒应尽的责任 

到底什么力量使到这班人肯将自己的一生摆在 

祭坛上当作活祭 ? 他们一定是经过神的大爱的 

启发 , 圣灵的感动才能做出这决定。箴言二十三 

章二十六节 :“ 我儿 , 要将你的心归我。你的眼 

目 , 也要喜悦我的道路。” 传福音者 , 他们所负 

的职责重大 , 他们不但向人负起拯救灵魂的工 

作 , 更要向神负责 , 将来还要向神交账。 

其实传福音不只限于宣教士 , 教牧人员 , 主耶稣 

在马太福音二十八章十八至二十节说 :“ 天上 , 

地下所有的权柄 , 都赐给我了。所以你们要去 , 

使万民作我的门徒 , 奉父子圣灵的名 , 给他们施 

洗。凡我所吩咐你们的 , 都教训他们遵守 , 我就 

常与你们同在 , 直到世界的末了。” 

这个你包括了你和我 , 主没有特别指出宣教士 , 

牧师 , 传道才配做主工。当然他们是牧养教会领 

导信徒的领袖 , 其实每一个接受了主耶稣基督 

做救主的信徒所应尽的责任就是去传福音。 

有些人常讥笑基督徒因为怕死 , 为了死後能上 

天堂就去信耶稣。基督徒是不怕死的 , 从主的门 

徒 , 到司提反 , 一直到现在 , 不知多少信徒为主 

殉道而毫无悔意。正如非洲的宣教工作 , 因为有 

人肯牺牲 , 肯将自己摆上当作活祭 , 所以福音的 

工作在那儿能传开。当年美国有一位寡妇 , 她有 

三个聪明又勇敢听话的男孩子。当他们父亲在世 

的时候 , 曾经鼓励他们长大去唸神学去传福音。 

父亲去世後 , 这三个男孩子果然遵从父亲的遗 

命去唸神学。大儿子毕业後 , 到非洲去传福音 , 

不久消息传来 , 他被野兽吃掉了。第二个儿子又 

去非洲传福音 , 不久消息传来 , 他被土人杀了。

第三个儿子也去非洲传福音 , 消息没有传来 , 过 

了几年那孩子在非洲工作没有什么进展 , 不久消 

息传来 , 那个仅存的孩子在非洲得到传染病死 

了。那寡妇的牧师到她家 , 也不知该怎样安慰她 

才好 , 只是叫她不要难过 , 但那寡妇说她不难 

过。当牧师将离开的时候 , 她对牧师说 :“ 我很 

难过。” 牧师就奇怪 , 刚才她明明说不难过 , 怎 

么现在又说难过呢 ? 牧师想 , 这也难怪 , 正想开 

口再安慰她的时候 , 她说 :“ 牧师 , 我好难过 , 没 

有第四个孩子 , 如果有第四个孩子 , 我还是愿意 

他到非洲去传福音。” 这是多么伟大感人的母 

亲。 

今天我们能享永生 , 真的要感谢神的仆人以及一 

般有传福音远见的弟兄姐妹把这上好的消息传 

递给我们。 

的人会有永生 , 不信神的人没有永生。所以保罗 

甚至我们都应该把得救的奥秘告别人 , 这是 

主托付给每一位信徒的使命。 

2. 扩大神国度的计划 : 神要我们传福音是要 

把祂爱人类的信息传遍天下然後末期才来到。 

自从先祖犯罪之後 , 人的罪性就像一个罗网 , 密 

密将我们网住。我们原该滅亡的 , 不配进神的 

国 , 但神爱世人 , 甚至将祂的独生子赐给我们 , 

叫一切信祂的 , 不至滅亡反得永生。耶稣被钉死 

在十字架 , 信祂的就恢复了人神和好 , 人神合一 

的关系了 , 我们不传福音就阻挡了神国度的永久 

计划。 

3. 为主作见证 : 我们每一个得救重生的基督 

徒 , 如果要数算主的恩典真是数算不清 , 只要 

( 三 ) 为什么要传福音 ? 

1. 传递一个关乎人得救的好消息 : 福音就是好 

消息 , 是把得救的信息传递给人。保罗在哥林多 

前书九章十六节说 :“ 我传福音原没有可夸的。 

因为我是不得已的。若不传福音 , 我便有祸了。 

我若甘心作这事 , 就有赏赐。若不甘心 , 责任却 

已经托付我了。” 保罗很清楚的知道 , 他在大马 

色遇见主已被神所选召重用 , 他不能违背主的 

托付 , 他知道他的工作不是白做 , 是有赏赐的 , 

他清楚人必会有一天面对死亡 , 而且知道信神 

尝过主恩的滋味便知道祂是美善的。约翰福音 

十五章十六节 :“ 不是你们拣选了我 , 是我拣选 

了你们 , 并且分派你们去结果子 , 叫你们的果子 

常存。使你们奉我的名 , 无论向父求什么 , 祂就 

赐给你们。” 这个结果子就是去为主作见证 , 主 

要我们活在世人中间作世上的光和盐 , 作祂的出 

口。 

4. 保持我们基督徒生命的功能 : 人有生命没有 

功能就成为行尸走肉 , 狗的功能是看门 , 母鸡生 

蛋 , 雄鸡会啼 ; 猫的功能是捉老鼠 , 基督徒的功

能就是传扬福音。保罗在提摩太后书四章二节 

说 :“ 务要传道。无论得时不得时 , 总要专心 , 并 

用百般的忍耐 , 各样的教训 , 责备人 , 警戒人 , 劝 

勉人。” 

5. 主来的日子近了 : 处在这个世界不同角落的 

地方 , 每天都有各种不同的惊人事件发生。人性 

的败坏 , 残暴到了极点 , 今天世界到处都没有平 

安 , 民政攻打民 , 国政攻打国。到处有饥荒 , 地 

震 , 灾害 , 恐袭等各种的祸患 , 这真是个末世的 

时代 , 虽然我们不知道我们的主什么时候来 , 启 

示录记载主的承诺是 :“ 我必快来。” 趁着黑夜 

将尽 , 白日快要到来的时候 , 加紧传福音吧。保 

罗在提摩太后书二章十五节说 :“ 你当竭力 , 在神 

面前得蒙喜悦 , 作无愧的工人 , 按着正意分解真 

理的道。” 

( 四 ) 与神同工必有成果 

或者有人说 , 我又不是教牧人员 , 宣教士 , 没有 

神学的根基 , 怎么传福音 ? 主耶稣说 : 祂所做的 

事 , 我们也要做 , 而且做得比祂更多。当然 , 离 

了主 , 我们就不能做什么。但是只要我们有一颗 

爱主 , 事奉主的心 , 祂就会加添我们力量 , 因为 

我们是与神一同工作 , 圣灵必会教导我们按照 

各人不同的恩赐去为祂宣道。方式很多 : 通过电 

脑 , 国际网络 , 带人听道 , 将属灵的书刊 , 福音单 

张分给人 ; 自己也可以通过口传 , 文字事奉。诗 

歌表达 , 甚至绘画等都可以为神工作。 

我有一位朋友的母亲 , 就是因为当年她在无意 

中收到福音单张 , 阅读後受圣灵感动而信主。也 

听过某些人说 : 他喜欢到某某教会去听道 , 因 

为那儿的招待员个个都带著温柔慈祥的笑脸。 

为我们的牧师 , 传道 , 讲员 , 以及教会一切圣工 

而代祷就是最好的支持福音传播的表现。 

( 五 ) 需要装备和训练 

这一切的工作都要装备和训练的 , 首先要拜见 

神 , 与神说话 , 与神交通 ; 神也会与你见面 , 与你 

说话 , 与你沟通 , 否则就如空的筐子 , 如何能掏 

出东西来 ? 

1. 对圣经要了解 : 提摩太后书三章十六至十七 

节说 :“ 圣经都是神所默示的 , 于教训 , 督责 , 使 

人归正 , 教导人学义 , 都是有益的。叫属神的人 

得以完全 , 预备行各样的善事。” 正如保罗所说 

的要 “ 按着正意分解真理的道。” 圣经是神的话 

语 , 我们不能藉著己见加添或酌减 , 自己要先懂 

神的意思去查考 , 与教牧分享 , 找到真正意义的 

答案才可以豁出去。作主精兵就必得下苦功去 

阅读属灵书籍 , 默想神的话语 , 祷告 , 祷告 , 还是 

祷告 , 求神加添力量 , 让祂的每一句话都充满圣 

灵的感动。 

2. 成为圣洁的工人 : 传福音者是代表神把一个 

美好的信息传达给对方。为了要对方接受你的传 

授 , 必须有好的果子让别人看到。我们的言语要

婉转 , 温柔有力 , 不要一开口就说你是罪人 , 不 

信耶稣你将来一定会下地狱。受过门徒训练的弟 

兄姐妹 , 应该知道如何去引导人。尤其是探访员 

更加注意言辞的表达 , 我们去探访的 , 多数是少 

来教会 , 初信者 , 或者是有需要辅助或病者的家 

庭 , 他们需要的是爱心的关怀 , 而千万不要问及 

他人的私隐。从前 ( 不是这教会 ) 有一些人对我 

说 : 我最怕探访员 , 他们有些很八卦 , 来探访又 

批评我为什么要买这里的房子 , 交通不便 , 又说 

这里的灰塵多 , 摸了我的玻璃窗又嫌它脏 , 有些 

还问及一些私人不愿别人揭开的问题 , 如你的 

孩子一个月给你多少钱 ? 你先生退休後拿了多少 

退休金 , 有些甚至来探访後就把我的花剪得东 

歪西斜 , 我真不明白他们探访的意义是什么 ? 所 

以每一个岗位的事奉者都得经过祷告 , 求主洁 

净才能引人归主。 

3. 将最好的献给主 : 以前以色列人献祭是用健 

全的羔羊 , 有残疾的他们不敢摆在祭坛上。阿伯 

拉罕献上他晚年难得的儿子毫无保留 , 是将最 

爱最好的献给主。今天我们作为神的工人 , 无论 

在那一个岗位上无论你是年长或年轻 , 都得忠 

心 , 虔诚的将最好的献上。献祭要全心全意 , 代 

祷要诚恳 , 任何工作要向神向人负责 , 这样的工 

作才有果效。 

4. 行为端正 , 充满圣灵和爱心 : 作为神无愧的 

工人必须言行一致 , 有好的道德行为才能彰显 

天父的荣耀 , 要被圣灵充满 , 结出属灵的果子 , 

令人心服你所传扬的基督 , 处处表达爱心和关 

怀。 

( 六 ) 到底传福音有什么好处呢 ? 

保罗说 :“ 我若甘心作这事 , 就有赏赐。” 真的 

只在乎赏赐吗 ? 神如此爱我 , 在短暂的人生当 

中 , 为主工作就如此计较吗 ? 罗马书十二章一节 

说 :“ 所以弟兄们 , 我以神的慈悲劝你们 , 将身体 

献上 , 当作活祭 , 是圣洁的 , 是神所喜悦的。你们 

如此事奉 , 乃是理所当然的。” 

非洲有一对退休的宣教夫妇 , 头发黑黑到非洲 

去传福音 , 历经沧桑 , 白发斑斑回到美国 , 他们 

下机的时候 , 看见有红地毯迎接他们 , 心里感到 

欣慰。他们眼睛一直向前看 , 见不到一个熟人 

来接机 , 再揉揉眼睛看清楚 , 原来前面有个大人 

物 , 被人呵护着下机 , 红地毯是为他而设的。夫 

妻二人回到酒店非常难过 , 二人抱头痛哭。原来 

一生为主劳瘁落得如此凄冷的下场。後来圣灵 

启开牧师的心门 , 有一个美好温柔的声音对他 

们说 :“ 你们的奖赏是在天上的 , 那赐永恒生命 

的神将赐给你们尊贵 , 荣耀和称赞 , 你们的辛苦 

并没有白费 , 是配戴公义的冠冕。” 突然他的属 

灵的眼睛似乎看见大队的天使夹辺在天家迎接 

他们 , 二人心胸释放 , 大声赞美主。我们应该记 

住罗马书十章十五节说 :“ 若没有奉差遣 , 怎能传 

道呢 ? 如经上所记 , 报佳音传喜信的人 , 他们的 

脚踪何等佳美 ,” 

( 七 ) 你的回应是什么 ? 

你是否肯使用神所赐给你的恩赐去回应祂呢 ? 

你們無論做什麼 , 都要從心裡去做 , 

像是為主做的 , 不是為人做的 ;

Coping with the 

Changes

A) Aging or growing old is… 

• The impact of time on the human body from childhood 

to adolescent to adulthood to old age. 

• The complex interaction of genetics, physical 

condition, physiology and behavior. 

• Imminent and 100% unavoidable. It starts early and 

affects every organ in the body. 

Some common external signs of growing old… 

• Whitening & greying of hair often begins in the 30s. 

• Thinning of skin and easily bruised. Skin injury healing 

is slower. 

• Large pigmented spots including age spots or liver 

spots on skin. 

B) Aging affects our body 

1. Cellular aging–cell, tissues & organs age: heart & 

arteries, brain, lungs, kidneys, bladder, muscles, 

bones, sight & hearing. 

2. Hormonal aging–hormones affect childhood growth 

and adolescent maturity & old age. 

3. Accumulated damage–exposure to toxins, harmful 

foods, pollution and smoke (smog) cause body organ 

damages. The body lost its ability to maintain & heal. 

4. Metabolic aging–our cells are constantly turning foods 

into energy. By-products produced can be harmful if 

not excreted resulting damages to the body over time. 

C) Aging affects our mind & soul too 

1. Health: Less healthy with medical problems as 

we aged. This cause us to worry & anxious about 

personal health. 

2. Relationship: Few friends & no colleagues to associate 

with. Children grown up & moved out. Lost of life 

partner. 

3. Emotion: Feeling of loneliness, emptiness, uselessness, 

plenty spare time & limited mobility. Fear of 

death and sickness. Get angry easily. More sensitive 

to others’ comments. Low self-worth & esteem. 

Memory loss. Depressed. 

4. Finance: Worry about expenses. Less income after 

retirement, under or no employment. Financial commitment 

not settled yet e.g. housing loan. 

D) Coping with aging 

1. Eat well: Processed foods are not good to the 

body. Added sugar, salt and fat will weaken our 

bodies, leading to serious health issues, including 

cardiovascular disease and hypertension. Reduce 

sugary drinks and white starches. Take more fruits, 

vegetables, fiber and lean proteins. 

2. Exercise: Recommended 30 minutes of activity a day 

5 times a week. Just 15 minutes of moderate activity 

a day can improve our health. Walk the dog or ride a 

bike. Any activity like gardening is better than none. 

3. Socialize: Socialization keeps us young. Maintain 

good and healthy relationships with others. Stay 

connected to the ones you love and make it a point to 

meet new people. 

4. Get sleep: We need rest. A good night sleep will 

reduce our risk of heart disease and lower our stress 

levels. 

5. Don’t stress: Stress, anger and holding onto grudges 

can be very damaging to the body. We aim to reduce

our stress and fear levels thus reducing anxiety and 

depression levels. 

6. Don’t smoke: Quit smoking improves blood circulation 

and pressure, and drastically reduces your risk of 

developing cancer. 

E) Where can we seek help? 

God has provided a user manual for our daily living—the 

Bible. 

God encourages us by saying these in the Bible:- 

1. Ecclesiastes 12:1 => “Remember your Creator…” 

We can tread our golden age graciously with God, our 

helper. 

2. Psalm 90:10 => “Our days may come to seventy 

years, or eighty, if our strength endures; …” Advances 

in science & medicines will not eliminate the “trouble 

& sorrow” in life including growing old. All these will 

come to pass. 

3. Genesis 25:8 => “Then Abraham breathed his last 

and died at a good old age…” Live to a good old age 

& satisfied. 

4. Mark 2:17 => “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, 

but the sick.” We all need the Lord. We are redeemed 

sinners and belong to God. 

5. James 5:11b => “The Lord is full of compassion and 

mercy.” He will accompany us for the journey home. 

6. Psalm 34:18 => “The Lord is close to the broken 

hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” 

God cares. 

7. 2 Corinthians 7:6 => “But God, who comforts the 

downcast…” 

8. Psalm 71:9 => “Do not cast me away when I am old; 

do not forsake me when my strength is gone.” We 

prayed. 

9. Ecclesiastes 3:12-13 => “I know that there is nothing 

better for people than to be happy and to do good 

while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, 

and find satisfaction in all their toil—this is the gift of 

God.” Be happy and do good while we live. 

F) What can we do? 

1. We focus on what we can do: Our self-worth is in God’s 

eyes. We are not measured by worldly standards. 

2. We practice continuing spiritual growth through formal 

& informal learning like joining Bible study in church 

or taking theological courses in seminaries. 

3. We learn a new skill or develop a hobby. 

4. We participate in community organization (resident 

association/Rukun Tetangga) and church activities 

such as joining the Methodist Senior Fellowship (MSF) 

and teaching Sunday School children. 

5. We keep our mind active as we get older by learning 

new technologies such as using internet to do Bible 

research or reaching out to others via social media 

like Facebook or WhatsApp. 

Depression is not a part of the normal aging process. 

Elderly often feel they are being left behind in the modern 

fast paced and ever changing world. Sense of self-worth 

is low when one is retired or employment terminated 

(VSS). We may be depressed because we feel useless. 

Depression is not new to humans. It happened in ancient 

times. 

We presumed that older people become dejected & 

moody with advanced age. It can be a medical symptom 

and is mistaken as normal part of growing old. Therefore 

getting medical advice is needed.

Chicken first, 

or egg? 

Not too long ago, I asked my friend a seemingly silly 

but logical question. It is, in fact, a causality dilemma 

for philosophers for centuries: Which came first, the 

chicken, or the egg? My friend, who has recently decided 

to become a follower of Jesus, answered me within 

seconds, chicken! 

Well, I was not satisfied with this easy answer. I asked 

for more explanation and argument from him. After 

much consideration and consultation, he finally came to 

a conclusion that God created chicken and hence, the 

chicken came first because the rooster and the hen must 

mate in order to lay eggs. Hmm… The hen doesn’t need 

to mate to lay eggs. I burst into laughter. 

The question indicates a very important truth in 

Christianity. The answer from my friend affirms his 

Christian worldview that all creatures are creation of 

God. Therefore, being one of the living creatures created 

by God, the chicken came first undoubtedly. The Bible in 

Genesis tells us that God created birds with wings on the 

fifth day of His creation. 

So God created the great creatures of the sea and every 

living thing with which the water teems and that moves 

about in it, according to their kinds, and every winged 

bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 

(Genesis 1:21) 

The hen lays eggs in whatever circumstances but no 

promise of chicks from the eggs. The rooster mates with

the hen to fertilize the egg in order to produce chicks. 

This is a simple logic of how chicken has to come first 

before eggs. 

God’s words are the ultimate truth. His wisdom is beyond 

our limited imagination. 

Humans, in our narrow knowledge, search for evidence. 

Scientists, after having countless experiments, finally 

concluded that the chicken came first, not the egg. They 

discovered that the protein which forms the egg shells is 

only found in the hen’s ovary. 

My friend and I gave thanks to God for the biblical truth. 

Even when the philosophers and scientists were arguing 

in the complex circle of chicken and egg, the Bible reveals 

the simple truth from the beginning. 

An amazing discovery. A simple truth in the Bible. Pure 

faith in Christ.

I was baptized in 2001 and like most new believers, 

faithfully, I started reading the Bible in the following year, 

which took me 2 years to complete. Then, after a year or 

so, I read the Bible again and it took me slightly longer 

than 2 years to finish. I congratulated myself and thought 

that I was then qualified to be one of the true believers 

and a disciple of Christ! I was wrong, totally wrong as I 

was too shallow in my understanding of the Bible, despite 

reading it twice. Why? Because I was merely skimming 

through the contents without discernment. I thought I 

could just read up the Bible like what I used to do with 

so many of the self-help books that I had read for my 

spiritual self-development. I may have quite a good grasp 

of the Old Testament accounts and the New Testament, 

but like what James 2:17 said: “In the same way, faith 

by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” And 

James 2:26, “As the body without the spirit is dead, so 

faith without deeds is dead.” 

I was in a self-contented mind-set for a period of time, 

blissfully oblivious of what Jesus had commanded 

me to do as one of His followers and I was merely a 

Sunday Worshipper. The call by Pastor to join ministries 

or Home Fellowship group had fallen on deaf ears. But 

then God will not let me rest on my laurels and in His 

leading through Aunty Julia, hesitantly I joined the Church 

Children ministry in 2008. One thing led to another, in no 

time, I was fully involved in the Sunday school ministry 

as well. Sunday school ministry turns out to be spiritually 

enriching and I told myself that this ministry is enough for 

me and joining a Home Fellowship group is still not my 

cup of tea then. 

My family, Melissa, Joshua & I were among the many 

GMSJ members who had participated in the Second 

Liners Retreat at The Farm in Semenyih in Oct 2008. 

In His perfect timing and plan, God used Mr & Mrs Ooi 

through the group activities to reach out to us to join their 

Mark Home Fellowship and by then, we had no excuse 

but to join them. Still I had little clue as to what to expect 

from the Home Fellowship? Eight years later, I can testify 

that joining Mark Home Fellowship proves to be very 

enriching for my spiritual growth. 

Our involvement in the Mark Home Fellowship started 

in 2009 and thank God for His enabling grace that we 

have been faithful in attending almost every meeting. 

The home fellowship meeting is held every Friday from 

8.15pm to about 10.30pm except for the last week of 

every month when the church monthly combined prayer 

meeting is held. We have meetings at three different 

locations, they are: Sis. Chiat Juat’s house in USJ4, Sis. 

Yvonne Wong’s house in USJ9 and at Mr & Mrs Ooi’s 

house in Bandar Puteri. 

Our Mark Group leaders are Mr & Mrs Ooi, and our 

members come from different places. Sis. Chit Min & 

Bro. Khoo are from Klang, Bro. David Foo & Sis. Linda 

from Putra Height, Sis. Chiat Juat from USJ4, Sis. Yvonne 

Wong from USJ9, Sis. Shwee Yuea aka Ling from USJ9, 

Sis. Annie Siew from USJ14, Sis. Helen Teh from USJ8, 

Mr & Mrs Ooi from Bandar Puteri and our family from 

Bandar Kinrara. Nevertheless, we are still able to meet 

up regularly despite the distances. Thanks to the untiring 

support and cares from Mr & Mrs Ooi.

The big family of Mark Home Fellowship 

Looking back when we first joined the group in 2009, in 

our midst, was the always-joyous Aunty Ang who at a ripe 

old age of 80s would share her bits of testimonies in a 

very lively-cheeky ways that gave us a chuckle. She had 

since migrated to Australia to be with her daughter some 

5 years ago. We had the late Bro. Kheng Kuan, despite 

his terminal illness, had joined our meeting faithfully, and 

his parents, Mr & Mrs Chan had also joined our group 

meetings for a few years until the death of their beloved 

son. The late Uncle Robert Yong would make every effort 

to join us before his illness confined him to a wheelchair. 

Then, we had the late Uncle Kenneth Loo & late Aunty 

Susan. Memories of them are still very much alive in us 

until today. We could always looked up to Uncle Loo for 

his wisdom and his eloquent use of Chinese proverbs 

even in Hakka dialect in relaying to a situation during 

our sharing. His exemplary attitude in learning new 

things even at an advance age of 90 had been a great 

inspiration to all of us. His presence is dearly missed. 

We also had Sis. Choi Ling from Klang and Sis. Rebecca 

from USJ who had joined our fellowship for a few years. 

While I was a bit apprehensive about our involvement 

initially, Mrs Ooi and the other members made us feel so 

at home from the first meeting that we quickly gel in and 

from then on, fellowship meeting on Friday truly becomes 

our TGIF or Thank God It’s Friday. 

The Friday evening will start with worship in the first 

half hour. Members will take turns to select hymms and 

songs in English, Chinese and occasionally a Hokkien 

rendition to worship our God. Each member will have the 

chance to select his or her favorite songs or hymms to 

express our love, gratitude and reverence towards Him. 

Bible studies and sharing through reading of special 

topical discipleship books will take up the next hour. Mrs 

Ooi will provide the main lead in our scriptures studies 

with the late Uncle Loo and myself providing the support. 

It was through these studies that I could understand 

what it means to live a Holy Spirit-filled life just as Jesus 

revealed in John 12:26 “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, 

whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you 

all things and will remind you of everything I have said 

to you.” There is no other ways except to surrender 

ourselves to Jesus and let the Holy Spirit that lives in 

us to guide and lead us in our everyday lives. There and 

then, our God Almighty would use the late Uncle Loo to 

challenge us to memorize Psalm 23, Galatians 5:22-23 

fruit of the Spirit and other verses, and Mrs Ooi’s in-depth 

dissection of scriptures greatly help in our discernment 

for practical applications. It is through these scriptures 

studies and sharing of testimonies that we truly learn to 

humble ourselves before God, to live out God’s Word in 

our spiritual journey and walk with Christ. 

Mr & Mrs Ooi’s exemplary loving kindness, dedication 

and support for the members, and their involvement 

in various ministries have been the role model for us. 

Among the members, the late Uncle Loo was active as a 

Chairperson in the Senior Fellowship ministry even until 

his very last month before going home to the Lord. Sis. 

Chit Min is active in the church as one of the ushers 

and Chairperson for the Ladies Fellowship ministry. Sis. 

Ling is active in Social Concern ministry and Mission

that He has showered upon our members and families. 

Occasionally, we will have Bible study video nights such 

as video of sermons from respected Christian Leaders 

for our spiritual food. 

David McCasland who wrote in Our Daily Bread of Aug 

2016 issue emphasized the point that life in Christ is 

meant to be a shared experience, and he further referred 

to the example where people will wait patiently for hours for 

a popular attraction at Disneyland. The keynote seemed 

to be that very few people were there by themselves. 

Instead, friends, families, groups, and couples were 

sharing their experiences, which was far different than 

standing in line alone. This parable truly touch my heart 

as it shows that for a believer to be a healthy, growing and 

fruitful Christian, he cannot live in isolation and Home 

Fellowship should be our “Disneyland” for Christians to 

come together to rejoice and worship our God, to grow 

together in Christ. 

A time for supper and fellowship 

ministry; and Sis. Helen has been faithfully serving as 

one of the ushers and quietly helping out in maintaining 

the cleanliness and supplies of the hospitality corner 

in the church. We are honored to be a part of Mark 

Fellowship group, the extended family in Christ and 

through each selfless dedications in various ministries in 

God’s kingdom. As true examples of living out the Word, 

besides the Children ministry, I am glad that God can use 

me in Mission ministry and the Newsletter ministry. 

We end our scriptures study session with testimonies 

and prayers. We pray and intercede for each other and 

the families, church members, the country and God’s 

people. We will then adjourn for our supper and further 

fellowship before leaving for home. Uncle Loo would tahpow 

chow-kuey-teow from the famous Sister Chow Kuey 

Teow shop in USJ16 and Aunty Susan’s special fried beehoon 

was so delicious. Sis. Chit Min & Bro. Khoo would 

ferry some freshly baked pau from Klang, while Sis. Ling 

would buy some nyonya-kuih from USJ. Sis. Helen would 

bring some crackers or cake and Sis. Linda would share 

some of her expertly prepared lasagna or specialty cake. 

Mr & Mrs Ooi’s favorite tah-pows are the dumplings from 

a hawker outlet operated by a Chinese National in Puteri 

Mart which are so authentic. And we are so glad that they 

like our weekly tong-sui in various varieties of red bean, 

green bean, barley, etc. Thank God for His abundant 

blessings to Mark Fellowship group. 

Beside these regular weekly meetings, a few times in 

a year, we would have thanksgiving dinner, blessed by 

our members, to give thanks to God for the provisions 

In the face of current tumultuous political situation with 

a bleak future staring at us, Home Fellowship groups 

will provide the support we need as we can look to the 

scriptures to edify one another with our hope in Christ 

just as Paul wrote in 1 Thessalonians 5:11, “Therefore 

encourage one another and build each other up, just as in 

fact you are doing.” As well as in Hebrews 10:24-25, “And 

let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love 

and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some 

are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another— 

and all the more as you see the Day approaching.” 

In Home Fellowship, I see scriptures being manifested 

time and time again as in Jesus’ exhortation in Matthew 

25:40, “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the 

least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” 

Or in Galatians 6:2, “Carry each other’s burdens, and in 

this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” When Sis. Linda 

was hospitalized for 6 months, Mrs Ooi led our members 

in prayers and visitations as well as assisted the family 

in their financial and physical needs. Mrs Ooi and Sis. 

Ling made regular visits to the late Uncle Robert Yong 

during his extended time spent in University Hospital in 

providing support and prayers. When Aunty Susan was 

in the ICU/CCU at SJMC for a month, our members took 

turns to spend time with her at the ward so that Uncle 

Loo can be relieved to have some good rest at home. The 

extended family of Christ will go the extra mile to care for 

one another. Praise the Lord for the family of God that we 

are able to live out His Word. All glory to God! 

So, are you a Sunday Worshipper? Are you still on milk 

for your spiritual nourishment? Are you walking alone in 

your Christian life? You don’t have to travel alone and to 

struggle in your spiritual walk. Come, join any one of the 

Home Fellowship groups for solid food, to have a close 

relationship with our Lord Jesus as we grow together in 

the family of God. God bless your spiritual journey.

歇一歇

生活总是很忙碌。每天忙得时间不够用 , 一天只能睡五个小时。这 

样日复一日 , 身心觉得疲惫不堪。 

这天翻阅《灵命日粮》时 , 当日的短文有如当头一棒。《歇一歇》这 

标题使我为之感动。莫非上帝在对我说话 , 提醒我是时候该歇一歇 

了。 

短文这样写 :“ 我们认真履行自己的责任 , 也应时常提醒自己 , 我们 

不必紧抓着手上的工作、事业、家庭和服侍。我们可以凭着信心 , 将 

这些交托给上帝。每天我们都可以花点时间 , 不受干扰 , 挪去紧张 

和焦虑 , 以感恩的心思想上帝奇妙的爱与信实。” 

看来我必须暂缓一切事务 , 好好的歇一歇 , 如短文中所讲的 :“ 只要 

我们相信上帝的同在 , 完全地信靠祂 , 便能得着真正的安歇。”

我们能无条件地接受家人的错 , 那是因为对家人 , 我们心中 

存有爱。无论家人怎样对待我们 , 我们总是一次又一次的为 

家人的错找借口 , 一次又一次的原谅了家人。这也是因为我 

们爱我们的家人 , 所以我们能包容家人的行为 , 并耐心地劝 

导他 , 从不轻言放弃。 

但是 , 对外人的错 , 我们却视之如敌 , 宛如眼中的一粒沙 

子 —— 容纳不下。我们会极力地抗拒他 , 心里不服气甚至讨 

厌他。这都是因为对外人 , 我们心中缺少了爱 , 缺少了包容 , 

缺少了忍耐。有时候还对外人处处看不顺眼 , 连他们的一举 

一动都不放在眼里 , 不放在心中 , 还嗤之以鼻呢 ! 

如果我们能以爱家人的心去爱外人或敌人 , 这样就不会引起 

不必要的争端 , 不会互相怀恨。自然而然地 , 我们对他们不 

再存有敌意 , 而能包容他们无心的过错 , 更能以爱心去服侍 

他们。 

正如哥林多前书第十三章 13 节说 :“ 如今常存的有信、有望、 

有爱 ; 这三样 , 其中最大的就是爱。” 由此可见爱的力量何其 

大。爱 , 把人与人之间的心紧紧扣在一起了 !

感谢主的恩典 , 保守我们完成了出去学飞的短 

宣。这是一段美丽且奇妙与主同行的旅程。我再 

出发前 , 心情竟然逐渐紧张及担心 ; 因为我要 

带着三位兄弟姐妹一起出发到台湾开始一段未 

曾经历过的旅程。同时也即将面对着还未知的 

困境。 

在出发前我清楚知道主给了我一个异象 , 就是 

在短宣的时候 , 看到门徒们彼此相爱 , 使世人看 

见我们是主基督所派来的。 

当我们抵达台湾 , 开始结识来自不同国家的主内 

兄弟姐妹们时 , 我的心中开始忐忑不安。我们团 

队一共有十二位来自八个不同国家的队员 , 我们 

拥有不同的文化背景 , 甚至在语言沟通方面都 

遇到困难。我第一次感到好不可思议 , 我和他们 

明明用英文来沟通 , 但是我们竟然彼此不明白 

对方所要表达的意思。我开始冒冷汗 , 心想我该 

怎样才可以跟他们度过六天的短宣呢 ? 

我开始忘记神的能力和恩典 , 我竟然让自己来 

掌控一切。感谢主的慈爱和信实 , 祂在当中让我 

与祂摔跤 , 就像当年祂和雅各一样 , 再怎么困难 

难受 , 使我都降服交托顺服祂。 

在这个短宣的装备营会中 , 我们的讲员 Mike 对 

我们说短宣不只是传福音及社会关怀 , 但更是 

了解自己 [T O KNOW Y O U R S E LV E], 认出自 

己的破碎 , 同时更加认识神 , 也使人认识祂 [TO 

KNOW HIM, TO MAKE HIM K N OW]。 Mike 

也告诉我们安静自己亲近神是一个对门徒们很 

重要的时刻。 

我是一个很爱讲话及习惯忙碌的人 , 这个方法 

对我来说是一个很大的挑战 , 停下自己的脚步 , 

放下自己手中的一切来安静亲近主。当我开始 

操练的时候 , 我更加经历圣灵更新与医治能力 , 

发现自己心中的疲累和破碎 , 是自己未曾停下来 

去思考 , 感谢主 , 赞美主。 

我们另一位来自古晋的讲员 Kenneth 使我们知 

道要与主进入水深相处是很重要的 , 停下来安 

静自己更加重要。在献上自己前 , 我们需要倒空 

自己 , 就如耶稣怎样倒空自己 , 死在十字架上。 


当我们在短宣的时候 , 我们必须降服在主面前 , 

放下自己的骄傲和自满。他也帮助我们看到自 

己生命与信仰的圈子 , 这些圈子有与主亲近的 

时间 , 与兄弟姐妹联谊的时间和与社区当中的 

时间。时时审查自己的心思意念是很重要的 , 停 

下来安静自己太重要了。 

营会中有一个非常深刻的记忆 , 大家全被分成 

不同的社会等级来享用我们的午餐 , 那一天的 

午餐真的使我无法忘怀。我被分派到最低等级 

的一组 , 我们在垃圾堆里吃一小块面包。最高阶 

层的 , 可以浪费昂贵的食物。中等阶层的享用午 

餐时有餐具 ; 底层阶级的 , 没有餐具。在当中有 

一位来自中等阶层的弟兄分他的午餐给我们 , 

结果被委员阻拦。我们没有一个敢拿他给我们 

的食物 ; 我们觉得不想要别人的施捨。我的心中 

的海浪不禁翻腾 , 之后很多来自不同社会阶层 

的弟兄姐妹们冒着自己午餐被没收的风险去分 

享他们的午餐。有两位来自最高层的姐妹跑来 

加入我们这组 , 竟然被请回去。委员等都 

是用客气的语气对她们说话 ; 而最低阶层的我 

们是被恶劣的态度对待的。我们开始不禁的反 

思 , 我们不停的唱诗歌 , 祷告。彼此更加认识 , 

一起赞美主。我的心要称颂耶和华 , 缺乏的 , 祂 

必供应。我内心不禁流泪。我很想没有来参加 

短宣的弟兄姐妹们能体验一下这样的生活。这 

真是现实生活的写照 , 再次提醒我们要更加亲 

近主 , 定睛仰望祂 ! 

终于我们出发了 , 第一天 , 我们有许多摩擦 , 因 

为我们当中有些弟兄姐妹有语言沟通的障碍。 

一些很热心的弟兄姐妹帮他们完成工作 , 使他 

们感觉自己没有存在。在检讨会的时候 , 他们觉 

得自己没用 , 所以我们开始调整自己 , 持续不断 

的和他们沟通交流。最后我们在服侍上更加的 

亲近 , 更加的彼此相爱。感谢神在当中的恩典和 

光照。我们短宣的对象 , 是一个客家族群的地 

方 , 他们是从小就拜偶象长大的 , 因此我们在这 

个小镇很难看到基督徒。但在教会却看到许多 

热心的非信徒 , 他们也愿意来教 

会帮忙侍奉 ; 也愿意与我们 

一起祷告来建立彼此的 

关系。

我真的很盼望更多的兄弟姐妹有 

机会参与短宣 , 来经历神荣美的创造 

和恩典。

哈咯 , 大家在主裡平安 , 我是 A l i s o n , 我曾於 

23/7-1/8,2016 到台灣參加 conference 和短宣。 

感謝神讓我有機會在宣教的事工上有份 , 在當 

中有很多的看見和得著。我參加的營會叫 Step 

Out, 然後這個營會是由一個機構 ‘OM’ 舉辦 

的 ; 他們每年都會舉辦 Step Out 和營會 , 讓不一 

樣國家的人來體會為上帝傳福音的喜樂。這個 

營會的目的就是要訓練更多人 , 激發更多的人 , 

興起更多的信徒 , 無論男女老少 , 都可以為宣教 

的事付出一點努力 ; 他們會有五天的營會訓練我 

們 , 建立團隊精神 , 六天是被差派出去傳福音。 

我們都會被分派到不一樣的地方去傳福音 , 有台 

灣 , 日本 , 尼泊爾 , 柬埔寨等等。當然我是選擇 

去台灣進行我的第一次短宣。 

可能大家會想 , 難道我都沒爭扎嗎 ? 其实我有 ! 

在還沒出發去台灣的時候 , 我個人有很多的爭 

扎 , 特別是要拋下一個人在家的媽媽 , 我就不放 

心 , 心中的爭扎也只有上帝知道 ; 但是上帝很奇 

妙 , 我雖然心裡爭扎 , 但是卻有一個微小的聲音 

一直催逼我去 , 我就只好帶著爭扎的心去了。 

我開始了前面五天的營會 , 在當中也有很多的得 

著 , 我覺得最激勵我的是有一天晚上 , 有一位牧 

師做出呼召 , 那時我的心一直在爭扎要不要站 

起來 , 我一直在哭 , 頭腦也都是家人的畫面 , 但 

是心裡卻有一個聲音告訴我 , 如果你願意你就 

站起來 , 我就這樣站起來了 , 但是我心裡很害怕 

也不知道自己的決定是不是對的。所以會後我 

就去找牧師聊天 , 聊到了我的爭扎 , 記得牧师 

說 :“ 不要怕 , 上帝永遠在那裡等你回應祂的呼 

召 , 你也不用擔心你的家人 , 你的家人都是上帝 

所造的 , 難道你還怕上帝不會照顧他們嗎 ? 放下 

你的重擔 , 大膽的回應祂的呼召吧 !” 頓時我的 

心被上帝溫柔的聲音給撫摸 , 這麼久的爭扎也 

被解開 , 感謝神讚美神。 

在營會當中 , 宣教視野的環節也讓我感受很深 , 

讓我真實看到和經歷到每個國家的逼迫需要。 

當有宣教士去到當中的時候 , 他們是真的賠上自 

己的一切付出 , 不怕被逼迫的為上帝而努力 , 我 

們也為著每個國家來代禱 , 為著不一樣的宣教 

士來禱告 , 在當中也看到很多國家的需要。還有 


Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in 

the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and 

teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And 

surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” 

(Matthew 28:19-20) 

一個更深的經歷就是在營會的最後一天我們有 

差遣禮 , 這個的差遣禮很不一樣 , 牧師用聖餐餅 

和酒來差遣我們。‘ 餅 ’—— 代表耶穌的身體為 

我們而破碎 , 我們的心也要像耶穌的身體先被 

破碎 ; 看到世人的需要 , 我們才能夠把耶穌的愛 

帶給他們。‘ 酒 ’—— 代表耶穌的寶血 , 洗淨了我 

們的罪 , 也因此當我們去傳福音的時候 , 我們不 

會被惡勢力的聲音所影響 , 因為我們心裡惡勢 

力的聲音已被耶穌基督的寶血覆蓋。這是最激 

勵我的一個差遣禮 , 也給了我很多提醒。 

其實在台灣傳福音真的很幸福 , 因為吃得很好。 

但是我特別看到的另外一個情境就是我真實體 

驗到世人那種渴望被愛的心 , 在傳福音的那六 

天 , 我認識了一個小女孩 , 我看到她的第一眼 , 

是孤獨的 , 我就主動去和她說話。到後來 , 我看 

到的是她的改變 , 主動和我們說話 , 主動和我提 

到耶穌 , 神的工作很奇妙 , 我和她提到了福音 , 

她也因此知道這世上有一位愛她的天父 , 雖然 

短短的時間 , 但我卻真實經歷到上帝的工作在 

其中。生活在安寧城市的我們可能有時會害怕 , 

有時會不想到那麼熱的地方去傳福音 , 會覺得 

我們禱告就好了 , 為什麼還要到他們當中 ? 但是 

我想在這裡告訴大家 , 他們要的也只是我們簡 

單的愛和關心而已。也有可能很多人不想去是 

因為語言的問題。我根本就沒有什麼才華 , 我 

不會樂器 , 不會講故事 , 不會唱歌 , 不會這 , 不 

會那 , 我能做什麼。但是我可以很真實的在這裡 

與大家分享一段話宣教的核心是愛 , 不是節目。 

你去到那邊 , 变得什麼都會 , 節目很順暢 , 但是 

你沒有為世人破碎的心 , 沒有愛人的心 , 宣教的 

意義也就失去了。這次的短宣 , 上帝讓我看到這 

樣一個不一樣的圖片 , 我們一組有十二個人是 

來自不同的國家 , 其中有 Finland,New York, 

Philippine,Colombia,Malaysia,Canada, 

Taiwan,Singapore, 上帝卻使用我們這些不同的 

人 , 不同的恩賜 , 去為祂擺上。當然 , 我們都擁 

有同樣的一顆心 , 那就是為他們破碎的心和愛 

他們的心。上帝要我們去宣教 , 不是看我們會多 

少 , 而是看我們愛人的心有多少。 

耶稣说 :“ 所以你们要去 , 使万民作我的门徒 , 奉 

父子圣灵的名 , 给他们施洗。( 或作给他们施洗 

归于父子圣灵的名 )。凡我所吩咐你们的 , 都教 

训他们遵守 , 我就常与你们同在 , 直到世界的末 

了。”( 馬太福音 28:19-20) 

其实今天我寫得再多也只是我的經歷 , 我看見 

的 , 我的感受 , 我的得著 ; 若是大家只是看了我 

的見證而沒有去行 , 我分享的再多也是沒有用 

的。當然我願意分享 , 但是我現在要挑戰弟兄姊 

妹 , 如果今天上帝站在這裡叫你去宣教 , 你會勇 

敢向神說 :“ 神啊 , 我在這裡請差遣我吧。” 你會 

這樣說嗎 ? 其實有一個訣竅可以讓我們勇敢的 

決定 , 就是常常把這件事放在心上禱告 , 總有一 

天你會行動 ! 加油 ! 讓我們一起為上帝的福音爭 

戰吧 !

3days 2nights

From the 1st to the 3rd of October this year, I had the 

privilege of joining the church at its annual retreat. It 

isn’t often that I can sit back and afford three days and 

two nights of essentially doing ‘nothing’. Doing nothing 

wasn’t true, of course, but it felt like that when compared 

to the usual hectic urban lifestyle. So when presented 

with an opportunity such as this, I tend to have tendrils 

of thought that usually spring from noticing the behindthe-scenes, 

less dramatic aspects of an incident. Three 

things I took away with me from the Church Camp at the 

Methodist Centre in Port Dickson: 

Hug, and Often 

“All beginnings are hard,” wrote 

Chaim Potok in his book In the 

Beginning. Yes, they are. I grew up in 

a family that didn’t practise hugging 

each other. The reason probably was, 

as the Camp speaker said, that it just 

wasn’t the Chinese way. We shy away 

from direct praise and overt shows of 

affection. 

But we live and learn. 

Over time, I allowed the harder edges of my Chinese 

heritage to be softened by the ready warmth of the 

Punjabis when they met and hugged, and by the gentler 

culture of the Malay side of my family to whom it was 

natural to exchange cheek-to-cheek greetings. Right-leftright. 

I am no longer averse to hugs from anyone, and a 

single right (or left) cheek greeting is also sufficient to 

convey sincere well-wishes. 

Over time too, my siblings individually learnt to give each 

other heartfelt hugs when greeting or saying goodbye. My 

dad returned the hugs a little self-consciously at first, but 

he soon warmed up to the practice; my shy mum, a little 

less so. 

Now, when I greet any of my five grandnephews and 

grandniece (two more sweethearts on the way), I make it 

a point to embrace them and to take the time to say the 

words “I love you”, or simply, “Sayang”. They are all under 

five years old and haven’t yet learnt to squirm and say 

“Eww!”, so the advantage is mine. My hope is that as they 

grow, hugs from me will become so commonplace that 

they will be comfortable with the action even as adults, 

if I live that long. I would like them to know, beyond the 

shadow of a doubt, that no matter what befalls them in 

life, they are unconditionally loved. Train up a child in the 

way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart 

from it. (Proverbs 22:6) 

Shows of sincere affection and gratitude are like any 

other action. Do it often enough and they become second- 


nature. All beginnings are hard, but as Chaim Potok also 

says, we survive our beginnings. So if anyone of you can 

get your arms around my rotund girth, I’m open to hug 

practice any time. 

A Fall Worth Taking 

During one of the games, I literally fell 

victim to a mighty butt from a gentle 

lady half my size who I had erroneously 

thought I could easily vanquish simply 

by bending over (mass times velocity 

and all that). Instead, I flew headlong 

into the pebbly earth and collected 

a mouthful of dirt, a cut forehead and 

upper lip, and unexpected demonstrations 

of gentleness and concern from people who 

were hitherto strangers. 

Several hands immediately helped up my 60-year-old, 

220-pound body, and I quickly received medical attention 

from Sis. Charmain and later on from Bro. Mark. But 

throughout that day and the next, lots of individuals 

whom I didn’t know, young and old, stopped to ask about 

my welfare. How (and especially why, considering how 

very minor the injuries were) the news had so rapidly 

spread from a remote corner of the Centre to numerous 

people in such a short time, I shall never know. I can only 

assume that the young people, in particular, took to heart 

the mention from the pulpit that they should look after 

the senior citizens during the games. That spontaneous 

show of concern from so many was a surprise to me. 

It’s a memory that’s etched into my mind and I happily 

look at my unexpected fall as one that was well worth 

taking. 

Sometimes, we never truly see beauty until a price has 

been paid for it. 

Originality in Action 

It was plain to me that much 

work had gone into planning the 

retreat and never was it more 

obvious than during the second 

night of the Camp. I was blown 

away by how creatively the 

Prayer Night session was put 

together. Almost all the built-up 

public spaces of the Centre were 

used to full advantage. The sheer 

breadth of the prayer site took my breath 

away. Talk about being dynamic! 

The entire session began with a perfectly timed and 

sombre introduction and invitation to the night, with 

minimal instructions on what to do and an assurance 

that we would find those out on our own. The next hour 

and a half saw an unusual mix of silent individual yet 

collective prayer. It was guided, specific and focused, 

yet wide-ranging and open to choice. Our hands were 

clasped in prayer, yet they drew pictures and wrote words 

too. We stood still but we also moved, climbed stairs and 

walked. We interceded for others and people groups half 

a world away, but also engaged in inward self-discovery 

and unutterable pleadings from the depths of broken 

hearts in the quietness of the chapel. 

I walked back to my room that night with a spring in my 

step, having witnessed the inventiveness of the young 

planners to do things differently in a refreshingly novel 

way. They gave the concept of praying with our whole 

being an entirely new meaning. 

I didn’t have the chance to personally thank every single 

person who had put so much effort into making the three 

days and two nights such a success, so I do so now.

真相大白

再过几天就是到国外旅行的日子了 , 可是我还没收到有关当局的批准信 

件 ( 已经在两个月前提出申请 )。趁着空档 , 我便到书记处去询问。但得 

到的答案竟然是没有我的申请记录 , 换句话说就是我没有提出申请。幸 

亏我有存着复印本。 

今天我带着复印本去给书记看。我说我记得是交给妳 ( 共有三位书记 )。 

她竟老羞成怒 , 大声唬我道 :“ 喂 , 妳别乱指责我 , 我可没有收到啊 !” 我 

想起今早临出门前外子吩咐我的话。外子说 : “ 你拿影印本给书记看 , 如 

果她仍旧说没有收到 , 那就算了吧 !” 我满肚子委屈的离开了书记室。 

我边走边想 :“ 神啊 , 你一定要帮助我 , 让事件能水落石出 !” 因为我很肯 

定有把申请表格交给书记。有个声音在我耳边响起 :“ 别为这件事而耿 

耿于怀。要原谅他人。要学习忍耐。他人不相信妳 , 没关系 , 只要行事为 

人对得起主。” 

回到家里 , 翻开《灵命日粮》。印入眼帘的是 : “ 存心忍耐 , 奔那摆在我们 

前头的路程 , 仰望为我们信心创始成终的耶稣。”( 希伯来书 12 章 1-2 节 ) 

。再翻开《荒漠甘泉》, 书内跳出 :“ 当忧愁和损失同时临到你的时候 , 你 

第一个冲动就是想放弃一切 , 坐在失望中伤心。但是你绝不能这样 , 须 

知你是在战场的前线 , 正当胜败关头。” 我顿时感到安慰。我要忍耐 , 神 

一定会让事情真相大白。 

就在这时电话响起。原来是另一个书记打来。他告知教育局确实有收到 

我的申请表格。可能回函到县教育局时遗失了。他叫我放心去旅行 , 等我 

回来时再把信件交给我。啊 , 感谢主 ! 终于真相大白了 ! 主啊 , 我赞美你 , 

把一切荣耀都归于你 ! 


我们陪堂姐到中国去探亲戚们和寻找我们的根 . 行程包括广州市 , 中山 

市和香港 . 堂姐也约了从加拿大返回广州市的表姐会合 . 这热情好客 

的表姐接待我们到她家休息 . 

第二天 , 二堂兄和二堂嫂与我们一起到佛山走一趟 . 一行人到功夫师傅 

黄飞鸿和叶问的记念馆去学中国功夫 . 我们从二堂兄的家一同步行到 

附近餐馆品尝中国晚餐和美食 . 当晚有说不完的话题 . 

十一月十八日下午我们三人和二堂 

兄就驾车回中山市 . 探大堂哥和三 

堂哥的家人与大表姐家人 . 这也是 

我爸妈以前居住的故居 . 我的阿姨 

居住在中山市 . 与阿姨的家人相聚 

是我必要完成的行程 .

末尾的一站是香港 . 舅舅和舅母也期待我们的到访 . 我们也联络上失 

去信息整 4 年的表姐与表姑的家人 . 这一切都是美好的经历 . 我借着 

这难得的机会也与他们分享主耶稣基督的大爱 . 

除了血源的根 , 我们还有一支根 . 这根联在耶稣基督里 . 借着这根 , 我 

们能和永生神的联系而得到恢复像亚当与夏娃在伊甸园的光景 . 我们 

留下新约圣经和灵命日粮书本给亲人们 . 

希望亲人能凭着信心而靠圣灵的感动也能得享这福音的大能与 

耶稣基督的爱和所赐救恩 . 

我们为着这盼望而祈求父神应许赐下永生的生命给这些在中国和香港 

的亲人 . 阿门 .

大妹一早起来就觉得很困倦 , 最近几晚她都睡 

得不好 , 一间狭窄的组屋就只有两间房。她的父 

母和两个年纪比较小的弟妹住一间 , 她和两个 

弟弟三个妹妹挤在另外一间房里。两个弟弟睡 

床 , 她和三个妹妹睡地板。 

这几晚两个弟弟不晓得怎么搞的 , 老是从床上 

翻下来 , 有时压在她的脚上 , 有时掉在她的头 

上 , 几乎令她窒息。两个妹妹也是翻来覆去 , 弄 

得她没有一刻安宁。 

她跑到洗手间 , 里面早就有人霸佔着 , 她大力的 

敲门。 

“ 催什么 ? 想找死啊 ?” 

“ 是我 , 我要赶著上学。” 

“ 大妹。你替我洗米煮饭 , 将冰箱里的咸鱼 

猪肉 , 放在饭面蒸一蒸 , 你们中午回来就有得 

吃。” 

大妹不作声 , 里面的人大吼道 :“ 你聋了 , 怎么不 

应我 ? 快去烧水泡咖啡 , 今天我赶著上早班 , 来 

不及弄早餐 , 你听到了没有 ?” 

大妹从鼻子里嗯了一声。 


她大力的把水煲放在炉子上 , 煲里的水震荡出 

来 , 弄得炉上的火发出一阵红光。 

“ 死丫头 , 叫你做点事就不甘心 , 你想火烧屋 

啊 !” 

一个挺著大肚子的女人从厕所出来 , 唠唠叨叨 

了一番就开门出去 , 刚踏出门口 , 她又回过头来 

大声说道 :“ 你放学回来记得叫那几只猴子冲 

凉。” 

大妹不作声。 

“ 大妹 , 你怎么不把你妈昨晚带回来的饱点蒸 

热 , 冷冰冰的 , 怎么吃呢 ?” 

一阵浓浊的烟味 , 夹著刺鼻的漆味 , 大清早就把 

鸽子笼似的房子弄得乌烟瘴气。 

大妹咬牙切齿地顿脚 , 也是习惯性的不作声。 

凶悍的母亲是酒楼的女工。 

好赌嗜酒的油漆工人是她的父亲。 

这一群猴子是她的弟妹。 

我怎么这样的不幸 , 会生长在这样的一个家庭 

里 ? 大妹憋着满肚子的气 , 背了书包踏出家门去 

挤巴士。 

巴士里挤满了人 , 她拉着吊带扶手 , 摇摇愰愰的 

站着 , 忽然一只怪手从她身上掠过 , 她气得涨红 

了脸 , 圆睁著眼想抓出这无耻之徒。她观看前后 

左右 , 每个人都似乎一本正经似的像个君子。 

她望出窗外 , 一个穿制服的印度人车夫 , 驾著一 

辆豪华的马赛地从巴士的旁边駛过。她班上的 

同学马海崙端坐在后座。 

她的眼晴佈满血丝 , 心里头酸溜溜的 , 同样是十 

七岁 , 一齐唸中五的少女海崙住在一间两层的独 

立式花园洋房里 , 拥有一间连接浴室的冷气房 , 

而她自己呢 ? 她摇愰得更历害 , 几乎快跌倒了。 

海崙是家里的独生女 , 父母都是商业界的大忙 

人 , 家中的一切事务都由佣人去打点 , 她会弹钢 

琴 , 跳芭蕾舞以及各种的时代舞 , 有挥之不尽的 

零用钱。下了课就换上名牌服饰 , 逛百货公司 , 

喝下午茶 , 去打机。晚上和一群男男女女去泡夜 

店。 

大妹不明白 , 像她这样有钱的千金小姐 , 竟然没 

有阶级观念 , 海崙不但没有鄙视她 , 反而常常邀 

她一齐出去遊玩。 

她憎恨自己那个像地狱一般的鬼家庭 , 许多的 

家务都落在她身上 , 使她抽不出时间到外面遊 

荡 , 再加上没有一套像样的衣服和鞋子 , 她自卑 

得很 , 不好意思和她一齐混。 

到了教室 , 她的同座同学刘恩惠跟她说 :“ 平 

安。” 

她牵牵嘴没答腔 , 心里嘀咕着 , 变态的傢伙 , 碰 

到人老是说平安 , 明明是平安的心境都给你扰 

乱了。 

刘恩惠递给她一本小册说 :“ 这个送给你。” 

大妹接过来 , 封面是一个头戴荆棘冠冕 , 满腮胡 

须的垂头丧气的男人被挂在一个十字型的木头 

上。 

又是走火入魔的宗教宣传 , 这倒霉的男人是什么 

东西 ? 竟要别人信祂 ! 她讨厌刘恩惠 , 因为她常 

常喋喋不休的在课前课后向她讲了一遍又一遍 

她不能入耳的大道理。 

有一件使她不明白的事 , 就是刘恩惠的家境也 

和她一样贫穷 , 母亲是医院里的清洁女工 , 父亲 

是派送报纸的报贩 , 她有三个弟弟两个妹妹 , 可 

是她的脸上永远绽开灿烂的笑容 , 不像她那样 

的总是感到心里忿忿不平。 

刘恩惠常常邀她到教会去 , 每次她都拒绝 , 因为 

她认为教堂里讲的都是一大堆教训人的废话 , 

唱的又是那些拖泥带水的什么诗歌。 

她突然有一个冲动的念头 , 如果今天海崙邀她 

出外遊荡 , 她一定要跟她去见识见识 , 让生活涂

上激情的光彩 , 可是海崙并没有邀她。 

此后她常常藉机会接近她 , 终于有一天 , 海崙邀 

她一齐出外遊荡 , 不知不觉她就成为那群遊荡 

队伍中的一份子。 

海崙给她改了一个洋名伊莎贝 , 大妹很感谢她 

的慷慨 , 把多余的名牌服饰和鞋子送给她。她 

整个人都变了 , 仿佛觉得自己飞上枝头做凤凰。 

刘恩惠常常劝谏她当心提防海崙以及那一班 

人 , 叫她不要和他们鬼混。大妹不但没有听进耳 

里。反而把刘恩惠当作仇人 , 对她不瞅不睬。 

有一天 , 海崙对大妹说 :“ 今天晚上在罗拔家有 

一个新奇又刺激的狂欢会 , 你一定要来。” 

“ 狂欢会 ?” 大妹心里一阵激动 ,“ 怎样狂欢 

法 ?” 

“ 你来了就知道。” 海崙神秘兮兮地。 

罗拔是他们那群遊荡份子里的 ‘ 大哥 ’, 二十二 

岁 , 身材魁梧 , 长得风流倜傥 , 他告诉那群朋友 

说是英国刚毕业回来的留学生 , 因为还没有找到 

工作就和他们混在一起玩。 

晚上 , 大妹到了罗拔的家 , 看见一群青年男女 , 

有的手指夹着香烟 , 有的拿着酒杯 , 相拥在一起 

疯狂的跳舞。“ 嗨 , 伊莎贝。” 罗拔递给她一杯 

酒 ,“ 嚐嚐这个。” 

“ 我不会喝酒。” 大妹把酒杯推开。 

“ 伊莎贝 , 你看我 , 哈 ... 哈 ... 哈 ... 真够刺激 , 飘飘 

然的 , 哈 ... 哈 ... 哈 ... 我快飞上天去了 , 来陪我一齐 

飞啊。” 海崙把罗拔手中的酒杯拿过来递给大 

妹。 

“ 喝呀 , 哈 ... 哈 ... 哈 ... 快陪我一齐喝。” 

大妹接过酒杯 , 咕嘟的喝下去 , 一会儿 , 那感觉 

是轻飘飘的 , 她真的飞上云霄。 

“ 你这个死丫头 , 我和你父亲的脸都给你丢尽 

了。” 

一阵叱骂声将她惊醒过来。 

大妹吃惊的睁开眼睛 , 发觉她和海崙都躺在医 

院的病床上。 

“ 是怎么回事呢 ?” 大妹问。 

“ 怎么回事 ?” 海崙床边一个穿著时髦的女人 

大声的吼道 :“ 你们差点被人拐到外国去卖淫 

啦。” 

她一惊 , 掀开被单 , 看见自己的衣服还是很整 

齐 , 这才吁了一口气。 

“ 你们这群人 , 一天到晚只是吃喝玩乐 , 不知道 

天高地阔 , 不晓得人心的险恶。” 

“ 你和爸爸每天不是忙著赚大钱就是每夜忙著 

去应酬 , 从来就没有关心过我。我就是怕回到那 

个空荡荡的家 , 我不去外面玩怎么过日子 ?” 海 

崙抽噎著。 

那女人歉疚的低下头 , 发生这件事 , 她的丈夫都 

不知道 , 因为他还在外国谈生意。她握著海崙的

大妹低下头热泪盈眶 , 她想她的错又归咎於谁 ? 

谁来关心她呢 ? 

忽然她觉得有人在抚摸她的头 , 她抬头一看是 

刘恩惠 , 她的旁边站着一个穿著有点古怪的男 

人。 

“ 牧师 , 真是感谢你及时报警 , 否则这班女孩子 

的下场可悲惨了。” 海崙的母亲走过来向那个 

穿著古怪 ( 牧师制服 ) 的男人握手致谢。 

“ 你们应该感谢上帝的保守和看顾 , 更感谢上帝 

赐给刘恩惠聪明智慧和爱心。” 

刘恩惠微笑地望著大家 ,“ 那天我在学校的厕所 

里 , 听见外面有两个男人在讲话。” 

一个说 :“ 今天晚上我们在海崙和伊莎贝的 

酒中放下迷幻药 , 让她们喝得酩酊大醉之后 , 

哈 ... 哈 ... 哈 ...。” 


“ 哈 ... 哈 ... 我要海崙 , 哈 ... 哈 ...。” 

“ 哈 ... 哈 ... 我要伊莎贝 ... 哈 ... 哈 ...。” 

“ 好 , 就这么办 , 第二天我们把她们送去台湾 , 

机票和伪护照我都准备好了。” 

“ 嘿 .. 嘿 , 罗拔 , 你这个假留学生真有一手。” 

“ 那当然 , 否则怎当姑爷仔 , 哈 ... 哈 ... 哈 ....” 

刘恩惠接着说 ,“ 当时我听到这番对话 , 吓得魂 

不附体 , 我屏住呼吸 , 轻轻的走出厕所 , 飞奔去 

告诉我教会里的牧师 , 牧师立刻和我一齐去报 

警。警方在罗拔的屋外设下天罗地网 , 看见时机 

成熟就把他们一网打尽。” 

“ 谢谢你 , 刘恩惠。” 大妹激动地握住她的手。 

“ 大妹 , 我们应该感谢主耶稣 , 祂爱我也爱你 , 

我在祷告中常常记念你 , 所以我们的主也一样 

的保护你。” 

“ 主耶稣是谁 ? 难道就是那个垂头丧气被挂在 

木头上的干瘦男人 ? 祂为什么爱我 ? 祂怎有能力 

保护 ?” 大妹疑惑地望著牧师。 

“ 主耶稣是上帝的独生儿子 , 祂是尊贵的神 , 是 

一切爱的源头。祂本身没有罪 , 但是为了爱我们 

和拯救我们这些罪人 , 祂心甘情愿的被钉在十 

字架上为我们死 , 使信祂的人罪得赦免享有永 

生。” 牧师说。 

海崙母女低下头相拥在一起 , 她的母亲难过的 

摸著女儿的头说 :“ 我和你爸爸只顾去赚取世 

界 , 忽略了对你的爱以及对上帝的敬拜。” 她忽 

然大声的哭道 :“ 主啊 , 赦免我 , 我是个罪人 , 

我只是一个洗了礼的挂名基督徒 , 我实在太亏 

欠主。” 

“ 妈妈 , 原谅我 , 主啊 , 赦免我。” 海崙把妈妈 

拥抱得更紧。 

“ 主啊 , 我也是个大罪人 , 我心里没有爱只有 

恨 , 我恨我的父母 , 我恨我的弟妹 , 我恨我自己 , 

哦 , 主啊 , 求拯救我 , 赦免我。” 大妹哭诉著。 

大家很自然地聚拢在一起 , 手拉手的围成一个圆 

圈 , 牧师带领她们唱 :“ 十字架 , 十字架 , 永是我 

的拯救 , 我众罪都洗清洁 , 惟靠耶稣宝血。“ 

窗外的夜空 , 月亮皎洁 , 星光灿烂 , 一道银白的 

光辉照在狭窄的路上 ....。 

现在我快乐 , 

不是因为你们忧伤 , 

而是因为你们的忧伤带来了悔改。

Mustard seed to mustard tree 

Ladang Care Open Day & Thanksgiving Celebration was 

held on 22th October 2016 at Chenderiang, Perak. 

Sis. Priscilla Tan, Sis. Pick Yoo and Bro. KC Ng drove to 

the Ladang Care on this cooling and drizzling morning 

at 7.30am. God had answered Sis. Priscilla’s prayer for 

good weather as we reached our destination on time. The 

celebration started with a time of praise & worship by the 

Malaysian Care Worship Team. 

Bishop Emeritus Hwa Yung candidly shared the message 

of an insignificant mustard seed that can grow to a big 

mustard tree. He quoted the growth of SIB church in East 

Malaysia. 

This also signifies the growth of Ladang Care from a 

humble beginning in 2007 until today. We are blessed 

to witness this memorable day together with hundreds of 

Christians and non-Christians from the local Orang Asli 

community in Penang, Perak, Selangor and other places. 

The venue was thronged with supporters, volunteers & 

villagers from Chenderiang. As for Bro. KC Ng, it was 

a good time to catch up with his mentors, co-workers, 

clients and fellow volunteers in the Prison, Drugs & Aids 

Services.

We rubbed shoulders with all those present irrespective 

of our origin and background. We moved along the 

lined up stalls of Orang Asli handicrafts, delicious food, 

souvenirs, organic farm produce, cakes, drinks, games 

and many more. The Chenderiang “Chee Cheong Fun” 

with curry is a tasty dish we had experienced. 

We praise God for His faithfulness to provide what is 

needed for the Ladang Care project. Seeing His hands in 

the early beginning and guiding the Ladang Care team to 

these days. We pray for God’s continuing guidance in this 

work for the Orang Asli. 

People we met 

According to Mr. Wong Young Soon, Ladang Care requires 

people/volunteers who can assist in: 

(a) Providing expertise in sustainable agriculture. 

(b) Developing the supply chain to reach the markets 

with the produce. 

Is there anyone from GMSJ willing and keen to contribute 

his/her talent for God’s glory? 

Restaurant in Chenderiang. We had the opportunity to 

share Jesus’ Good News with Mr. Liew, the brother of the 

stall owner. 

We thank God for the memorable adventure we have had 

and a chance to practise Rev. Tie King Tai’s coaching 

on evangelism to stranger. God loves this soft spoken 

gentleman too.

We are blessed to meet a missionary supported by 

GMSJ. Sister Hwa Chung Shan was also present. She 

is involved in the literacy works for the Semai tribe. We 

met Dr. Lee Bee Teik, our tutor on counseling. She is 

recovering from a stroke. She has another three books 

due for publication.

Here’s a hint: 

That’s because we usually see things and people as they are, 

not what huge potential they have in addition to what they 

already are. 

These little rings, pulled out from discarded soda cans, are 

changing lives across South East Asia. In countries such as 

Cambodia, Vietnam, Thailand, and our own land of Malaysia, 

these pull rings literally give people new lives when there was 

not even hope before, and they are doing it one step at a time. 

Thousands of people have no legs to stand on. This is what 

keeps a factory in Thailand busy; it manufactures prosthetic 

limbs for disabled people out of aluminium and other 

recyclables. For more than 25 years, the Prostheses Foundation 

in Chiang Mai, Thailand has built prosthetic limbs free of 

charge for over 20,000 amputees. So how many amputees 

are there in our region? In Thailand alone, statistics in 2008 

indicate that there are about 40,000 people with missing legs, 

most of whom are poor farmers in rural areas. After 30 years 

of war, Cambodians are today still victims of buried landmines 

which are frequently found in the fields. The country also has 

about 40,000 amputees (roughly one in every 290 persons), 

one of the highest rates in the world. Before the Prostheses 

Foundation came up with the revolutionary technique of using 

recycled materials, artificial limbs made from stronger metals

Making a prosthetic leg 

were just too expensive for many of these people and 

others who had lost limbs as a result of various accidents 

and medical conditions. 

But there’s a cheaper alternative. The aluminium pull rings 

which we collect will be sent to Thailand where they are 

melted down and processed into new shapes that form 

part of prosthetic limbs. To make durable artificial feet 

for the prosthetics, the factory uses recycled plastics. 

The artificial legs are also moulded in sand casts which 

are specially fitted for each amputee. More than half of 

the technicians who fashion the artificial limbs in the 

Foundation’s factory are themselves disabled and wear 

prostheses, so they understand that the limbs need to fit 

well and won’t cause pain to the wearers. 

About 1,650 collected ring pull tabs will make one 

prosthetic leg. That’s about 500g. 

It’s just a pull-out ring. A little thing. Hardly any weight 

at all. You can put several in your pocket and not feel 

a difference. But my two, added to your two, added to 

somebody else’s 20, added to an entire church’s 200 

comes up to a rather sizeable amount. (What, after all, is 

a single drop of water? It vanishes soon enough. Unless 

it joins another drop, and another drop, and yet another 

drop. Before long, we have a cup of water to offer. When, 

Lord, were you thirsty and we did not give you drink?) 

There’s literally no leg to stand on for not collecting these 

little marvels; no basis for throwing them away when they 

can offer so much hope to thousands of grateful people 

whom we will probably never meet. We who (for the most 

part) have four normal working limbs can do so much to 

give mobility back to those who lost it. 

It doesn’t take much effort at all to rip off the pull-out 

soda can ring and keep it until Sunday. Please give it to 

me on any Sunday and I will see to it that it gets to be 

part of somebody’s new gift of life.

So what can you do with the empty soda 

cans after you’ve pulled out the rings? That’s 

a story for another time. In the meantime, you 

can also hand them to me and I’ll see to it that 

they reach the nearest recycling centre in USJ 

8 which is collecting the pull rings to be sent 

to Thailand. 

Or you can go there yourself with all

EXHORTATION

Being nice or being right? 

In our daily life, driving to work or for leisure, we are faced 

with heavy traffic. While you are stuck in a traffic jam and 

with tension building up, you see people cutting queue, 

at times you give in but sometimes you resisted. So is it 

being nice or being right more important? 

While walking or eating your meals, beggars will come 

along and ask for money. Will you give in or ignore them? 

“Is this part of a syndicate?” you will be thinking in your 

mind. What happens if he is truly hungry? So being nice 

or being right—does it matter? 

Imagine whatever good deeds you performed on earth 

are actually credited to the adding of building materials 

for your Mansion in heaven. Why not do good as we are 

commissioned to? Ephesians 2:10, “For we are God’s 

handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which 

God prepared in advance for us to do.” 

I have a few encounters with my clients as I am quite a 

straight-forward person. In other words, I am quite blunt. 

I am learning patience every day and am still learning. 

This is perhaps from my training when I was in College/ 

University and during my working life. In working life, you 

have to ensure that you are protected as black and white 

determines everything. Everything is backed-up by emails 

even after telephone or oral conversation. Trust is loosely 

used. You have to protect yourself and your team as proof 

and evidence is the minimum. 

This is especially so when I was working in the Finance 

Dept in a multi-national company. The demands are 

high and the expectations are almost flawless. Your 

perspective is to challenge and backed up what you 

had proposed. I still remember that we were called into 

the CEO’s office to explain a new product costing when 

the budgeted cost was different from actual. Way too 

different. We had to produce evidence of emails to back 

up what the budgeted cost was and who provided the 

source. 

I have learnt that in Church we have to be more on a 

soft approach and to let things flow at its pace. In other 

words, you have to lower your standard of demands. This 

was true when I worked for local Chinamen companies 

and NGOs. Their pace and standard of demand is so 

slow and low. Of course, it is kind of relaxed to say the 

least but there are certain jobs to be done and deadlines 

to follow. Sometimes you have to push but most of the 

times you may end up doing it yourself. Patience building 

I suppose huh? 


So being nice and less demanding or providing ample 

time to accomplish a task is normal. Otherwise, you will 

be accused of being demanding and wanting power. 

God has His way. He is removing our rough edges to 

perfect us. We are just a lump of clay to be moulded 

into a fine pottery or a block of wood to be crafted into 

whatever God wants us to be. Thanks and praise God for 

that. 

Whether we want to be right or nice, we need to have 

a certain principle and value system in us. Doing right 

and seen to do right is important. Poor behaviour reflects 

us badly to others. In 2 Timothy 2:15, “Do your best to 

present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who 

does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles 

the word of truth.” 

Are we adaptable and teachable? Right or nice also need 

improvement. We are not perfect. In Psalms 25:9, “He 

guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his 

way.” Once we are being right with God, it will overflow 

and bless others. 

Always trust our God for He controls everything. 

Ecclesiastes 3:14, “I know that everything God does will 

endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing 

taken from it. God does it so that people will fear him.” 

Do the right thing and everything nice will come. This 

is because what you give or show will mirror your own 

internal happiness. Then, you will be more willing to 

share with anyone irrespective of status, gender, etc 

We have a job to do. Be fruitful and multiply. We should 

spread the Good News not only organically but spiritually 

to the unreached. In Romans 10:14, “How, then, can they 

call on the one they have not believed in? And how can 

they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And 

how can they hear without someone preaching to them?” 

Hence, we have to do right and be nice. So the saying 

goes—“is not what you said but how you said it” 

All of us like to associate with that nice person. But is 

niceness always the best? It could be the person being 

nice would not want to hurt the other person which means 

it is just downright lying. This is supported by research. 

Being too nice is at the expense of speaking one’s mind. 

The result is toxic. We Asian, have problem accepting 

reality. If your idea is being shot down, you would think 

the person who shot it down is against you. We mix up 

the idea with the personality. Idea can be no good but the 

person is still ok. If that happens, it steals opportunities 

for growth. 

Are we to be like in Luke 6:29, “If someone slaps you on 

one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes 

your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them.” How far 

are we going to stretch on this verse? 

Of course, we are not to be mean. Being rude for the 

sake of it, is not only arrogant, it is not productive. 

We need to be objective and honest about it. It may be 

uncomfortable. 

May be the answer is to be assertive—being direct and 

honest with control of emotions to discuss, negotiate 

and find the best solution. 

So being right or nice? Or should we say being rightly nice 

or nicely right? 

... know that a person is not justified by the 

works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. 

So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus 

that we may be justified by faith in Christ 

and not by the works of the law, because by the 

works of the law no one will be justified.

歸回安息

今年是我們在台灣服事的第 8 個年頭。走過高山 

與低谷 , 酸甜與苦辣的日子 , 我們深深被過去累 

積的疲憊而籠罩。需要處理的「人事物」仍舊很 

多 , 瑣碎的事工還是滿檔 , 但是發現我們前進的 

動力逐漸怠慢了 ! 身心靈顯出疲憊狀況。時常在 

想有甚麼方法可以使自己重新得力。越當我們渴 

慕這樣重新得力的時候 , 神一次次藉着不同的 

管道 , 卻給我們同樣重複的訊息 :「安息」。提醒 

我們疲憊需要歸回安息 , 需要進入至聖所與祂 

面對面。 

在 5 、6 月 ( 辦公室和我們的住家搬遷 ) 之間忙 

着打包裝箱 , 搬遷後 , 忙著開箱定位。同時 , 還 

有原本在 OM 服事的工作仍然隨著身後在追着 

我們。那前後的 3 個月裡 , 我 (Janice) 真的有說 

不出來的疲憊感 , 也有一種無助和無力感。常常 

疲憊到躲起來偷哭 ( 怕被家人看到 , 帶給他們壓 

力 )。 

神真的很愛我 , 祂藉着不同的方式安慰我。上帝 

用的方式真的非同我的方式。祂很奇妙 ! 那些日 

子 , 每早晨來到客廳 , 我都被客廳外一片平靜的 

海洋水流的景色吸引。我內心好渴慕就如那海 

洋平靜一般。直到有一天 , 神感動我 (Janice): 

「妳看到了外面的海洋一片的平靜了嗎 ? 其實 , 

妳也可以如此的平靜 ! 妳可以甚麼都不用作 , 不 

用急著要禱告甚麼 , 不用急著覺得要讀甚麼經 

文。妳只需在這時刻 , 放下手邊的事務 , 放下妳 

的重擔 , 安靜的坐下來 ! 我要使妳歸回安息重新 

得力」。在那一次的坐下來 , 我心靈真的得到無 

限的安慰 ! 

在同工的安靜退休會裡 , 神又一次讓我們進入 

安息。。。在退休會安息時 , 神觸及我們。。。藉 

着祂的話 , 我們從中得到安息裡的安慰。 

其中在默想神話語的時候 , 我 ( J o s e p h ) 彷彿覺

青宣里 OM 的摊位 

得猶如一位小孩是那麼的無助 , 我甚麼也都不 

能作。在聽着詩歌背景的音樂裡 , 猶如小孩的 

我 , 當時我是往著天父跑去。然後 , 祂緊緊擁抱 

著我。當下 , 我真的身感溫暖和被接納。我被這 

樣的溫暖和接納 , 感動的流下眼淚。在那時刻 , 

我猶如小孩在上帝的關愛裡。原來我不需要做 

很多事情才能得著祂取悅我。祂就是這樣的愛 

我 ! 感謝上帝 , 讓我在這樣的經歷裡 , 使我再一 

次更新我與上帝的關係 ! 

也在退休會中 , 我 (Janice) 有好多次被神的話 

語提醒 , 我是被神的愛圍繞著的 , 我是祂精心的 

傑作 , 是祂一對一的造成物 , 祂且因我喜樂而歡 

呼 , 祂就是這樣的愛我而感動 ! 

GMSJ 弟兄姐妹们来参加《出去学飞》营会 

的反思 : 過去我們拼命作那我們或是大衆認爲「 

好」和「重要」的事。神也實在提醒我們 , 不是我 

們作了多少 ? 爲 OM 台灣付出或守住了甚麼 ? 更 

重要的是到底我與祂的關係是如何的 ? 過去 7 年 

多裡 , 我們以爲作了很多 , 經歷很多嗎 ?! 這些 

都不能算甚麼。乃在於這些年裡 , 我們是否有 

在服事期間將人引領到神面前 , 讓他們成爲主 

門徒 ? 一切所行的將要過去 , 唯有生命的影響 , 

人們被翻轉的生命是延續的 , 而且是持續的 ! 這 

才是服事的重點 ! 

安息中尋回我在神眼中的寶貴價值 

安息中尋回神呼召我的目的 

安息中尋回神才是事奉中的生命力依靠 

神提醒我 , 我唯有在安息中才能找回我失喪的 

信心 , 從過去的傷害中復元 , 恢復我在神裡面原 

來的形象。 

神「安息」的訊息沒完沒了。。。 

退休會後回家第二天 , 我 (Joseph) 就去參加在臺 

北舉行的國際「華福」會議。我 (Janice) 卻在家 

聽直播 , 而我們兩個在兩地仍是得到同樣的訊 

息 — 安息。奇妙的是 , 大會主題的講道仍然還是 

圍繞著「安息」的信息。講員強調 , 回到祂的至 

聖所 , 歸回安息。唯有進入至聖所才能讓過去的 

消沉的經歷瓦解 , 重新得力。 

這幾個月神藉著「安息」的訊息 , 讓我們有更多 

J o e l 与来台的阿公阿嫲 , 姑姑。

An 

Island 

Getaway

At Bengkalis jetty 

In the month of July 2016, Pastor David, Pastor Mertji, 

Sister Ah Ling and I had the wonderful opportunity to enjoy 

a getaway to the island of Bengkalis, which is situated 

just off the east coast of Sumatra, Indonesia. Actually, 

many would call this trip a short mission exploration 

instead, after all, an actual island getaway would involve 

sipping pina coladas by the beach, whilst dipping ones 

toes in the blue sea; snorkeling gear by the side and cool 

sunglasses perched on one’s nose! 

In spite of the fact that we did not do any of the above 

(apart from Pastor David wearing groovy green sun 

shades!) it was better than a getaway. Why do I say this? 

While getaways are meant to renew and refresh, to fill

one with a sense of well being, this and more happened 

in Bengkalis, because we were able to witness first hand 

God’s power and grace throughout the 7 days we were 

there. 

Many would think that mission trips are hard work and 

stressful. I admit that there is work involved, but when 

we also have the attitude of joy and anticipation, then 

mission trips become a time when we ‘getaway’ with 

God, a time to be renewed and refreshed by the Holy 

Spirit, a time of well being when we rest in the presence 

of our Lord Jesus. 

If you feel that you need to be recharged in your walk as a 

disciple, please read on. It is my hope, however, that your 

spiritual life is already brimming with vibrancy because 

you have just returned from mission! 

I would like to share some of our amazing experiences in 

Bengkalis below. 

1 

We discovered strengths and weaknesses as we 

stepped out of our comfort zone and learned to 

depend on God. 

Whilst in Bengkalis, we were required to speak in Hokkien, 

as we were ministering to the Chinese community there. 

Of the 4 of us, Pastor Mertji had no knowledge of the 

dialect, my Hokkien was only good enough to order ‘char 

kueh tiau’, while Pastor David’s Penang slang could be 

confusing at times. Only Sister Ah Ling had a good grasp 

of the dialect, even then, she confessed to be unable to 

pray fluently in it. However, the Holy Spirit had other plans 

for us. In spite of our shortcomings, Pastor David was 

able to preach the Sunday sermon fluently in Hokkien 

(this being Pastor’s first time ever giving a sermon in that

dialect!) and Sister Ah Ling 

and I were teaching Sunday 

School and Happy Saturday 

in church in Hokkien as well. 

The Holy Spirit showed us that 

we shouldn’t limit Him, that when 

we are willing to be His mouth piece He 

will give us utterance. 

What about Pastor Mertji? Her lack of knowledge of the 

Chinese language made this particular scripture verse 

come alive. In 2 Corinthians 12: 9, Paul says, “Each 

time He said, ‘My grace is all you need. My power works 

best in weakness.’ So now I am glad to boast about 

my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work 

through me.” Sometime ago, Pastor Mertji constantly 

visited a sister in Bengkalis by the name Ching Ching. 

She was in depression, and was not responsive to 

anyone, not even her family members. Pastor would 

just hold her hand each time and pray for her in Bahasa 

Indonesia, not knowing any Hokkien. Gradually, by the 

power of God, Sister Ching Ching was healed and later 

gave a thanksgiving dinner while we were there! Indeed, 

all glory to our Heavenly Father, for we may not speak or 

understand many languages, but we know that the Holy 

Spirit equips us to connect with people in other ways.

Missions help us to grow in our faith and see God 

at work. 

a) While in Bengkalis, we paid a visit to one Mr Ah Kow. 

He lived with his wife and daughter who was a hair 

stylist. Mr Ah Kow was suffering from renal failure and 

was wheelchair-bound. When we first saw his daughter, 

she was unsmiling and was not pleased to see us. Being 

a non believer, she probably consider us a nuisance! 

Pastor David at that moment decided he wanted to 

dye his hair! We were a little dumb founded, but later 

Sister Ah Ling and I decided to do likewise. Mr Ah Kow’s 

daughter, at the end of our hair treatment, warmed up 

to us and even joined us when we prayed for her father. 

But, the amazing thing was, after Sister Ah Ling prayed in 

Hokkien (if you remember earlier Sister Ah Ling said that 

she had difficulty praying in Hokkien!) there were tears in 

Mr Ah Kow’s eyes. The next day, he and his wife attended 

church service. 

b) Bengkalis being an island has some problems with 

power supply. By God’s grace there was no electrical 

outage for the 7 days we were there, except for that one 

time on Sunday when Pastor David was about to give 

his sermon. There we were, all prepared to hear Pastor 

give his inaugural sermon in Hokkien, when suddenly 

everything went into darkness just as he was about to 

speak! Naturally, we got distracted as Pastor Edy, the 

local pastor ran about fixing the generator. But God will 

not allow His Word to be side tracked, because Pastor 

David stood up and spoke confidently and smoothly when 

power was restored. This incident showed us that there 

will be obstacles placed in our paths when we desire to 

do God’s work, but He will supply all that we need!

Mission is an expression of obedience to the Great 

Commission and we expand the kingdom of God 

when we become His hands and feet. 

Matthew 28:19–20 express Jesus’s command for us 

to make disciples of all nations. While there is still 

much work to be done in Malaysia, going to Indonesia, 

we believe was also God’s will, as Bengkalis is also 

part of God’s kingdom and the way was opened for us 

when the Kalam Kudus Church in Pekan Baru invited 

GMSJ to partner with them in establishing the church in

Bengkalis. While we were there, Pastor David was able 

to minister to Pastor Edy, to encourage and support him, 

for island ministry has many challenges. I believe that 

Pastor Edy was comforted to know that even though we 

are a distance away, yet we recognized and reaffirmed his 

contribution by our presence there.

We experienced the beauty of working together 

as one. 

The 4 of us could not have been more diverse in our 

character and behavior, likes and dislikes. We were 

however conscious that we belonged to one family of 

God, that we were brothers and sisters in Christ, with a 

common goal. The indwelling Holy Spirit united us in order 

for us to bear one another in love and the expression of 

that unity was certainly beautiful, for one of the ways the 

enemy breaks up any mission trip is by causing disunity.

We 

made new Christian friends and encountered a 

culture diverse from ours. 

Many times on mission trips, we think that we are going 

to a place to bless the people there, but always, the 

opposite is true. We become blessed by them instead. 

This also happened in Bengkalis when we experienced 

the wonderful hospitality of the folks there. Sister Ah 

Suan bought food for us to eat on the ferry, Sister Ah Pia 

insisted we return to her home for drinks, Sister Ah Lian 

gifted us with T shirts, the Saroso family treated us to 

a wonderful dinner and Sister Helen gave us a ‘bak kut 

teh’ lunch. There was also a sister who refused payment 

when we ate in her restaurant. We enjoyed such warm 

hospitality by God’s wonderful grace. 

Personally, the Bahasa Indonesia language has shown 

me how diverse we could be also. For instance, to brush 

one’s teeth is to ‘sikat gigi’ and not ‘gosok gigi’. The word 

‘budak’ means slave and toothpaste is not ‘ubat gigi’ but 

‘pasta gigi’. I made several mistakes when speaking in 

Bahasa Malaysia, but I learned many wonderful things as 

well. I learned that God can create unity through diversity, 

bring about love through unlovely situations and teach 

us how wonderful and great He is when we are willing to 

open ourselves to Him as He leads and guides us.

There may be many reasons why one cannot go for 

a mission trip, but no good reason NOT to. 

The above statement says it all and with this I end this 

testimony.

vs. Christianity 

What’s the difference?

“Why are you Christians always sending missionaries 

overseas? People have their own culture, their own 

religion, why don’t you just leave them alone?!” This is 

one of the most common statements we hear as we 

lecture on college and university campuses throughout 

the United States and around the world. Students and 

faculty often jeeringly ask us, “What is so special about 

Christianity, different from every religion in the world?” To 

be sure, this is a very significant question; and probably 

one of the most significant questions that any Christian 

could ask themselves: what is so special about Jesus 

Christ? 

Our family has a close friend named Lou. Lou grew up 

in the nation of Thailand and he was a Buddhist for the 

first 20 years of his life until he met some Christian 

missionaries who introduced him to Jesus Christ. If you 

were to ask Lou today, “What is so special about Jesus 

Christ and Christianity different from every other religion 

in the world?” Lou would share with you the following 

story: 

“When I was a Buddhist I felt like I was in the middle of a 

large lake. I was drowning and I didn’t know how to swim. 

As I struggled to keep my head above water, I looked out 

towards the shore and saw Buddha walking up to the edge 

of the lake. I was going under for the third time, when 

suddenly Buddha began shouting out instructions to me, 

teaching me how to swim. Buddha shouted, ‘Kick your 

legs and paddle your arms.’ But then Buddha said, ‘Lou, 

you must make it to shore by yourself.’ As I desperately 

struggled to follow the instructions of Buddha, I looked 

out towards the shore again, but this time I saw Jesus 

Christ walking towards the edge of the lake. However, 

Jesus did not stop at the edge of the lake. Jesus dove 

into the lake and he swam out and rescued me! And 

once Jesus had brought me safely back to shore, then 

he taught me how to swim, so that I could go back and 

rescue others!” 

You see, this is the key difference between Christianity 

and every other religion in the world: Christianity is not a 

religion! What are religions? Religions are about human 

attempts to make our lives right with God, through our 

good works, sacrifices, rituals, and money. However, 

Christianity is not a religion. Christianity is about God 

entering human history to graciously save men and 

women through His Son Jesus Christ. It is only by placing 

our faith in Jesus Christ and submitting to his Lordship 

that we will be saved. 

A relationship with God will never be found in any religion, 

because religions only offer swimming lessons to people 

drowning in the sea of sin. And it doesn’t matter how 

sincere or devout you are in your religious faith and 

practice, because the sea of sin is eternally immense. 

The only hope for men and women drowning in the sea 

of sin is Jesus Christ. God entered human history in the 

person of Jesus Christ; he dove into the sea of sin in 

order to save desperate and drowning people. If you’ll 

allow him to take you there, he’ll hold you in his loving 

arms and bring you safely to shore. And after arriving 

safely to shore, then your swimming lessons begin, so 

that you can go back and rescue others!

Endau Rompin 2016 Mission Trip Report 

2nd—4th December

Day 1 Friday, 8.00am 

As usual, we gathered at Uncle Teh’s house in SS15. The 

total participants of 24 consisted of 14 brothers and 10 

sisters, out of which 5 were first timers*.

After prayer and our usual group photo, we left Subang Jaya 

for our journey in a convoy of 5 vehicles. Our travel plan 

would take us through NKVE, exit Kepong for Karak Highway, 

exit at Temerloh for Bera to meet up with Rev. Lieow for our 

onward visitations, en route to Tanah Abang in Rompin. 

on this cloudy Friday morning, until about 2 km before Exit 

803A to Genting Highland. The traffic had built up along 

the steep ascending highway as a result of a breakdown 

trailer. The church van WWE7734 driven by Rev. David was 

doing fine with 5 energetic youths of whom were Samuel, 

Schani, Lois, Joshua & Ryan for company, but their lively 

fellowship had to take an abrupt stop. While maneuvering 

the van in the bumper to bumper traffic up in the middle 

of the steep highway, the Kia Van clutch plate decided to 

call it a day. Without the clutch, it was simply not possible 

to engage the gears. Praise the Lord that Rev. David could 

finally engage the lower gear after repeated suspenseful

We had a brief stop at Sg. Buloh R&R for breakfast and 

continued our journey from there onto Karak Highway as 

planned. The journey on the Karak Highway was blissful

disturbed by some spirits, but was cleared of idols 

and cleansed by Rev. Lieow prior to our visit. We sang 

two songs of praise together and each also gave a 

presentation to the Lord. We presented the children 

with Christmas gifts and had lunch provided by them 

before saying goodbye to Kg. Chendon. We prayed 

that the Christian community here will continue to 

grow in the Lord. 

At Semelai settlement in Kg. Chendon 

tries, to slowly move passed the jam to pull to a stop at the 

highway shoulder before Exit 803A. The strong burning smell 

that was emitting from the engine compartment revealed to 

us that the van was not roadworthy for our onward journey. 

Praise the Lord that He had steered us clear of danger and 

by His leading, Rev. David & Bro. Pete decided to stay with 

the van for the tow truck to arrive, while the rest of the 

22 members were reseated in the other 4 vehicles for the 

onward journey at 10.50am. 

The truck took 2 hours to come to the rescue and 

subsequently took another hour to reach Pastor’s regular 

workshop in SS15 for repairs. We thanked God for the 

heavy traffic jam that might have caused the clutch plate 

to burn out earlier. If the clutch plate were to burn out later 

in the middle of our visitations to the remote Orang Asli 

settlements, it would be a nightmarish situation for us to 

have the van tow back to Subang Jaya or even to seek help. 

A separate arrangement allowed Bro. Pete to drive another 

vehicle together with Rev. David to Endau Rompin. 

At 4.10pm, our 2nd visitation brought us to the 

Jakun settlement at Kg. Cheras. There are currently 

6 Christian families among the Jakun community. 

Their leaders are Bro. Awang & Sis. Tina, both have 

since healed of cancer. Bro. Rome, a Dusun from Sabah, 

who married their daughter Sis. Samiah, was chairing the 

fellowship in the church. The congregation presented to 

the Lord ‘Pujilah Eloah’ and ‘Masih Banyak Orang Berjalan’, 

followed by their presentation of ‘Hidup Menurut Teladan 

Kristus’. After Rev. Lieow’s short introduction of our team 

and words of encouragement to the congregation, it was 

our team’s turn to share. Bro. Siew Loon shared about his 

daily life, how Jesus brought peace to his life, and how the 

Lord led him to learn to read the Malay Bible. Bro. Tan gave 

a short report of the journey thus far. Sis. Schani shared 

about her interest in singing that led her to praise and 

worship ministry in the church, and how her faith helped 

restore her voice after losing it for seven months. She ended 

her testimony with a song ‘Ku mau cinta Yesus selamanya’.

Meanwhile, our convoy of 4 vehicles drove through Temerloh 

and arrived at Bandar Bera at 1.00pm to meet up with Rev. 

Lieow for our first visitation to the Semelai settlement in Kg. 

Chendon. The next 25 minutes journey brought the team to 

the house of Bro. Ali, a Temuan from Dengkil and Semelai 

wife Sis. Aida. They have 2 children. Sis. Aida’s cousin, Bro. 

Basri & wife Sis. Ella with 3 children is the other Christian 

family, together with their cousin’s family from a nearby 

Kg. Bokok were there during our visit. The house was once

We were glad to meet up with Pak Elen, a Temuan and the 

leader of Jekoa Kg. Jeram Kedah in Kuala Selangor, whom we 

have met during our GMSJ MT 2013. He brought 3 of their 

girls to Kg. Cheras for a lift to Tanah Abang, for the Vocational 

Bible Study camp. These 3 girls who are Chinese educated 

were, Edora (Form 3) who is the granddaughter of Pak Elen, 

Airene (Form 1) & Justina (Standard 6). Pak Elen shared how 

he would wake up at 3.00am in the morning to read the Bible, 

headed off for work, then return to sleep at 9.00am. He said to 

have witnessed God’s power numerous times and encouraged 

us to be strong in faith. Through the fellowship with these 

3 girls, though they are young, their faith in Christ is strong. 

Young Edora could confidently place her faith in Christ for the 

protection over the grandfather’s return journey to Jekoa Kg. 

Jeram Kedah. Their passion to serve the Lord is very telling, 

as shown by their readiness to Sis. Schani’s invitation to join 

her in presenting the Chinese version of ‘Ku mau cinta Yesus 

selamanya— 我要永永远远爱着耶稣 ’ later on Sunday service 

in Tanah Abang. We prayed that they will continue to grow 

spiritually in their walk with Christ and be a positive influence 

to the Orang Asli communities in Malaysia in the years to come, 

for the glory of God. 

As usual, Ibu Mertji would gather all the Jakun children, to 

share God’s words with them through games. Meanwhile, 

sourcing sufficient water supply from available wells which are 

drying up is a huge challenge for the community. Rev. Lieow 

could only help built a water storage tank to harvest rain water 

for the church. Some of our members paid a visit and offered 

condolence to Cik Mena, the mother of a 30-year-old Muslim 

man who had recently passed away due to a motor vehicle 

accident. We prayed for this Jakun Christian community to 

persevere in their faith despite of the many challenges and 

continue to grow in the Lord to expand His kingdom, and that the 

state government will eventually hear the plight of Kg. Cheras 

to build and provide clean water supply to this community. 

The convoy left Kg. Cheras at 5.50pm, drove through the 

country trunk roads, passed through Muadzam Shah, en route 

finally to Endau Town safely by 8.15pm. 

Meanwhile, Bro. Pete & Rev. David had taken a separate 

route, through Seremban Highway, exited at Senawang, passed 

through Kuala Pilah & Muadzam Shah to reach safely at Bro. 

Koo’s Cosway shop in Endau Town earlier at 8.00pm. Bro. 

Koo, whom we have met during our last visit 4 years ago, is 

the Hubong Church leader/preacher who helps Rev. Lieow in 

serving the Orang Asli ministry in Endau Rompin. Pr. Zalina who 

is serving the Jakun community in Tanah Abang/Endau Rompin 

and Bro. En’man from Tanah Abang were at the shop. They 

came from Tanah Abang to pick up the three girls, Edora, Airene 

& Justina who came in with Rev. Lieow from Kg. Cheras for their 

VBS camp in Tanah Abang.

We had our late dinner at a Chinese restaurant before arriving 

at Hubong Church in Endau for the night at 10.00pm. The 

youths had their last practice session before calling it a night. 

We gave thanks to God for the safe journey despite of the van 

incident which nearly interrupted our whole programme. 


Day 2 Saturday, 7.50am

Morning devotion was the order of the day with words by 

Aunty Bee Har in the Hubong church. We then had our 

final practice session before leaving for Endau Town for 

our breakfast. We had noodles for breakfast and took the 

opportunity to celebrate Uncle Teh & Bro. Steven’s birthday 

in the shop. We had a brief visit to the nearby fishery before 

starting our first visitation in Endau. 

At 11.00am, we arrived at Bro. Ko & Sis. Rozmita’s house 

in Kg. Kemendol. Bro. Ko, a Chinese who was from Muar is 

a fisherman. He was a Catholic and converted to Christian 

after moving to Endau 25 years ago. Their eldest son, a 

lorry driver married with a son, settle down in Johor Baru. 

The daughter, Sis. Mei Ling has a daughter Rupia. Their 

youngest son Jeremy is 12 yrs old. We were glad to meet up 

with this family, whom we have met in Tanah Abang 4 years 

ago. The Christian community in Kg. Kemendol headed by 

Bro. Ko & Sis. Rozmita consisted of 5 families, and some of 

the families were from Sabah or Sarawak. They are currently 

worshipping at Kuala Endau church. According to Rev. Lieow, 

there is already a plan to build a Chapel in Kg. Kemendol for 

the growing needs of the Christian community here. 

We worshiped the Lord together, had sharing and fellowship 

with Bro. Ko’s family and the sisters & brothers here in the 

Christmas celebration. We presented “Dikepak-Kepak” and 

“Eloah itu Baik”, followed by testimonies from Bro. Ryan 

and Sis. Schani. Bro. Ryan shared how he was afraid of the 

night until he could not sleep. It was only after he became 

a Christian that he is no longer afraid. Sis. Schani gave the 

same testimony she had shared in Kg. Cheras. We ended 

the session singing “Selamat Hari Natal” and presented our 

Christmas gifts to the children. 

We paid a visit to Bro. Udea & family who stay at a nearby 

house, and prayed for the brother, Pak Ramli who was having 

an injured right leg. He came to the church recently seeking 

help for his infected right leg which had not healed for the 

last 20 years. We also had a courtesy visit to the village 

chief Pak Teron & family before coming back to Bro. Ko’s 

house for lunch. Meanwhile, Ibu Mertji shared the gospel 

through games with the children and the sisters. We prayed 

that God’s continuous blessings be upon Bro. Ko’s family 

and the Christian community here. 

We left at 1.30pm and had a courtesy visit to the tyre shop 

of Bro. Wong & Mdm. Loh. They are the Church leaders of

Kuala Endau church whom we have met during our last visit 

4 years ago. 

At 2.50pm, our 2nd visitation brought us to the new house 

of Sis. Ramlah & husband Bro. Salleh at Kg. Labong. They 

have 10 children, 5 sons & 5 daughters and many grand 

children. When we last visited their family 4 years ago, they 

were staying in a makeshift squatter house. Praise the 

Lord that with the help from JEKOA & JAKEOA, they have 

managed to seek the approval from the relevant government 

agencies to provide these permanent houses for the family 

since 2013. Many of her children’s families are staying in 

this same housing estate. When one of her daughters was 

demon possessed, she tried to seek help from the church 

as well as the medium but to no avail. It was only after 

committed her faith fully to the church that her daughter’s 

health was restored. Some of her children would turn back 

to their old ways, but Sis. Ramlah always encourage them to 

seek our Lord Jesus. Praise the Lord for this family of faith. 

May the Lord’s favour and blessings be upon them.

fellowship and preparation for the evening worship service 

with the Jakun brothers & sisters in the church. 

The evening worship service started at 8.00pm in the 

Church. Rev. Lieow led the worship service with introduction 

and songs of praise, followed by our short video 

presentation of our last visit in 2012. We were delighted 

and much encouraged to see their enjoyment and laughter 

in response to the video presentation. Ibu Mertji then led us 

to present our favourite “Dikepak-kepak” and also managed 

to get everyone in the congregation to sing-along. Their 

Sunday school children presented “Kasih Yesu…” & “Saya 

cinta Yesu” to end the evening worship service. We prayed 

that our partnership & fellowship with Tanah Abang Jakun 

brothers & sisters will continue to grow and strengthen in 

the Lord, with many more years to come.

We left at 3.30pm for our final journey to Tanah Abang Jakun 

settlement. We had a brief stop in Mersing before continuing 

the 1.5 hrs journey to arrive at 5.00pm. Bro. Awang Kecil 

was there at the church to welcome us. We were glad to see 

all the familiar faces, as well as the existing multipurpose 

hall with the 1st floor being used for accommodation, where 

we would be staying for the night. Even the church flooring 

had been upgraded to terrazzo tiles. Praise the Lord for His 

provisions to this community, including the addition of 1 

used van for transport. 

We had dinner prepared by the Jakun sisters. Incidentally, 

we also have brought in a large bundle of Chinese pork 

sausages “Lap-cheong” for their enjoyment. Then it was

our Jakun brothers & sisters. Among the leaders, we were 

pleasantly surprised to see the graceful aging of Bro. Awang 

Taman. How we were glad to see the children grown from 

little kids to youths. Bro. Jasni & Sis. Salimah, the Sunday 

school teacher, their 3 daughters, Sylvia, Sylvica & Sylvinda 

have grown. Bro. Julija & Sis. Zaimah, another Sunday school 

teacher, their 3 children, Eric, Emely & the cute little Ebal 

have all grown. Not to forget, our Joshua Hew has grown as 

well. Meanwhile, ‘kita puji Tuhan’ that 2 beautiful youthful 

ladies have not change a bit, they are, our always friendly Ibu 

Mertji & Pr. Zalina, who is assisting Rev. Lieow in serving the 

Jakun Churches in Tanah Abang, Endau-Rompin since the 

end of 1999. They are truly sisters in Christ. 

Day 3 Sunday, 6.30am 

We stayed for a night on the 1st floor of the multipurpose 

hall, got up early to freshen up and had early breakfast to 

prepare for the Sunday service. 

The Sunday service and Christmas celebration started at 

8.30am. Sis. Salimah led the congregation in worship and 

songs, followed by a presentation by the Sunday school 

children. Rev. Lieow shared the Word of God based on Kisah 

Para Rasul (Acts) 16:1-3. Ibu Mertji took over the worship 

proper with Uncle Teh leading the men in, to make a grand 

“Pengumuman” to the congregation. The ladies and the 

children followed with “Baca Kitab Suci” before the youths 

presented a mime and proclaiming “Saya cinta Yesus”. Ibu 


Mertji led the ladies in their presentation of “Tiap Langkah 

ku” before leading the whole team to finish the presentation 

with Christmas songs. It was Bro. Ryan’s turn again to share 

his testimony to the congregation. Sis. Schani shared her 

testimony one last time that ended with her presentation of 

‘Ku mau cinta Yesus selamanya— 我要永永远远爱着耶稣 ” 

together with Edora, Airene, Justina, Noryana & Alysa. We 

ended the celebration with love gifts to our hosts and their 

children.

As usual, we continued with our fellowship and photo 

sessions in our last minute rush to capture our moments 

before we say goodbye. The Jakun sisters again prepared 

some light lunch for us before we bade farewell to Tanah 

Abang at 12 noon. Praise the Lord for the journey mercy 

that all members reached Subang Jaya safely by 7.30pm. 

As we looked back, although it was just a very short stay 

in Tanah Abang, we could feel the warm hospitality that 

came from the love of Christ. We could see God’s work in 

Tanah Abang, how the place has been transformed over the 

years and how God has provided a sanctuary to nurture 

the children. We were much encouraged and touched by 

the hands of God to see the faith in Tanah Abang remains 

strong. 

We gave thanks to God for a safe passage throughout the 

long journey, for the healthy bodies, for the good weather 

and for the fellowship with our brothers & sisters in Christ. 

We prayed for God’s continuous blessings upon our brothers 

& sisters in Tanah Abang until we meet again in 2020.

GMAD

GMAD was the preaching point set up by GMSJ in September 

2010. That was also the same time when I lost my job. 

I was feeling terribly down that day. I had just lost my job. 

I called Pastor David Boey and shared about my miserable 

situation with him. I still remembered that he asked me to 

join him for coffee at IKEA, Mutiara Damansara. We chatted 

over the RM1.00 cups of coffee. As usual, Pastor David 

joyously told me that this was a good opportunity. On that 

fateful meeting, he revealed to me that GMSJ wanted to set 

up a preaching point in Ara Damansara. He told me that I 

could help GMSJ since I am staying around Ara Damansara. 

Subsequent months later, GMAD was officially launched by 

CAC Chairman Reverend Boh during the first GMAD worship 

service on 4th Jan 2011. 

The first evangelist of GMAD was Pastor Caleb Chang. GMAD 

was his first posting after graduating from the Seminary 

Theology of Malaysia. He was very motivated and he would 

try to do everything to bring people to Christ. He would join 

the local badminton games to know the local community. 

He would walk under the sun to distribute flyers to invite 

people for Christmas party in GMAD. At that time, we only 

had around 10 members in our congregation. Some of the 

worshippers were from GMSJ. They were “assigned” to 

GMAD to help out. We had Bro Daniel Ling, Sis Ah Ling & 

her son Bro Benjamin Tan, Bro Ngo and Dr Adriel Soh & his 

family. Our flyers had successfully attracted some people 

from the local community to visit GMAD. Among them were 

Sis Liew, Bro Cheah, Sis Abby, Sis Anne and Sis Cynthia 

& her two very young children. Pastor Caleb was Chinese 

educated but wanted to preach in English, so he patiently 

practised his preaching under the coaching of our dear Sis 

Liew almost every week. Meanwhile, we were not able to 

start any Sunday school class as we only had two children, 

i.e. my two sons. 

In our second year, GMAD had a lady pastor. Her name is 

Pastor Lydia Ng. GMAD was also her first pastoral posting 

after her graduation from STM. She was very energetic and 

fun loving. During her term, we set up the first GMAD home 

fellowship in my house. It was held every Friday evening. Bro 

Ngo from GMSJ was very supportive and he attended the 

home fellowship every week for the first three months. The 

frequent attendees of the home fellowship were Bro Cheah, 

Sis Sophia and her mum, plus my family and our maid. 

In our third year, Pastor Raymond Choy was posted to GMAD. 

He was still studying in STM then. He was well-known as 

a “people-person”. Both the old and young in the church 

liked him. During his pastoral period, many more newcomers 

came to GMAD, including Sis Vivienne Yoong, Bro Ming Hun 

& his wife Sis Swee Yen and Sis Elaine Wan. In order to 

help in directing people to GMAD, we put up road signs 

around Ara Damansara area. We were happy that the road 

signs worked as many people came to GMAD after that. 

During that period of time, we had around 30 worshippers 

on Sunday worship. In the same year, we also started The

Beautiful Gate recycling project and blood donation drive to 

involve the participation of the Ara Damansara community. 

In Nov 2012, a working committee was set up, led by GMSJ’s 

LCEC to facilitate GMAD’s growth. The main objective of the 

working committee was to facilitate the growth of GMAD 

towards independence. The members of the working 

committee were Reverend David Boey, Uncle Eric Tan, Pastor 

Raymond Choy, Sis Liew-Lee Sook Kam, Bro Cheah Eng 

Hwah, Sis Sophia Tang, Bro Kenneth Han, Bro Liew Song 

Hut and myself. Along the way in 2014, Bro Cheah had gone 

home to the Lord and Bro Liew had to move to Singapore. 

Later, Bro Chi Tat was nominated into the working committee. 

Incidentally, let me share the story about the late Bro 

Cheah, whom we fondly referred to as Uncle Cheah. One 

of the Sundays when I was away, I was told that there was 

an elderly gentleman, or “uncle” had visited GMAD. Then, 

Reverend David told me that this “uncle” was his good 

friend. He was the late Bro. Cheah Eng Wah. He came to 

GMAD on the invitation of Pastor David. He was such an 

encouragement to all of us as he was very committed. He 

diligently attended all 9 months of Disciples Class and then 

enrolled himself into STM. We were so encouraged by him 

for taking up Theology course at the age of 61. However, he 

did not finish his course. He was diagnosed with 4th stage 

brain cancer and gone home to the Lord in 2014. 

also joined GMAD. During Pastor Richard Ng’s second year, 

we had about 10 children and 40 adults worshipping every 

Sunday. He also initiated the bible study classes, home 

fellowship and prayer ministry. 

Jan 2016 marked another milestone for GMAD with the 

launching of MIF ministry and Bro Hason had kindly offered 

his house to host the weekly meetings. The MIF committee 

comprise Jolin Ng as the president, Loke Ernyi as the 

secretary and Gaebel Hwa as the treasurer. The MIF advisors 

are Bro Nicholas Tang and Sis Lichin Goh. 

Meanwhile, since the end of 2015, we were challenged by 

GMSJ’s LCEC to make GMAD independent. We were very 

excited about the challenge, but somehow we had little faith 

about the journey. Nevertheless, we started to plan towards 

being independent by 2016. We focused on bringing more 

worshippers to become members. Since as a preaching 

point, there are no member under GMAD, so our first task

In 2014, Pastor Richard Ng Way Min was posted to GMAD to 

be the assistant pastor, while still pursuing his Masters in 

Divinity. About this time, Bro Hason Loke and his family were 

transferred from GMSJ to GMAD. With the addition of his 

three children, we now have enough children to set up the 

Sunday school. Sis Yong Ghoon was the main person running 

the Sunday school then, but had to follow her husband to 

Singapore. We thanked God that He had prepared Sis Peet 

Sei to take over the Sunday school ministry. Sis Clare Tang, 

Sis Nichole Tang and Sis Sharon See stepped in to help in 

the Sunday school ministry as well. Meanwhile, Bro Sean 

Ha, Bro Jonathan Chai, Bro Joran Koh and their families

The God’s family of MIF 

was to transfer the membership of some worshippers 

from their hometown church to GMSJ. When GMAD is 

fully independent and set up as a local church, GMSJ will 

then transfer these members together with those who 

were originally from GMSJ to GMAD. Our second task was 

to make sure that our finance was stable. While we were 

financially stable, the biggest challenge was to ensure that 

we had enough members. We thank God for His provisions 

that He has given us enough members to enable GMAD to 

become a local church. In September 2016, we submitted 

our application for GMAD to become a local church to the 

Chinese Annual Conference. In November 2016, at the 41th 

session of the Chinese Annual Conference of the Methodist 

Church in Malaysia, the President of CAC, Reverend Boh 

announced that GMAD was approved to become a local 

church. Praise the Lord. 

Below is my testimony about the hand of God in GMAD. 

Our second son, Herald Hwa is 10 years old now. He is a 

happy, playful and healthy normal boy. He was born a premature 

baby and was admitted to ICU in hospital due to 

apnea and viral infection when he was just 14 days old. 

It was an unforgettable experience with this boy especially 

for my wife, Caroline Ong. She had to spend 4 days with 

this boy in ICU day and night, followed by another week 

in the pediatric ward. Our worst nightmare was when the 

pediatrician told us that he might permanently be in a 

vegetative state (paralysed in mind and body) due to the lack 

of oxygen during the apnea. We thanked God for His saving 

grace that our boy could recover from that paralytic attack, 

and to lead a normal life now. Our GMAD members, Bro 

Kenneth Han and Sis Jessica Yii had their first son, Isaac 

Han when they joined GMAD. Isaac was also a pre-mature 

baby and he was admitted to ICU with many complications. 

Reverend David and I were in the hospital when Isaac was 

pushed into ICU. The boy was so tiny. Caroline and I shared 

our limited experience of what we had learnt during Herald’s 

hospitalization in ICU. The church mobilized everyone to 

pray and provided support to the Han family. I learned that 

God gave us our experience with Herald, so as to prepare 

us to support and care for others around us. After that, Bro 

Kenneth & Sis Jessica continue to provide their prayers and 

support to people who face the same situation in hospital. 

God had also provided us the cornerstones for GMAD. The 

first cornerstone is the zealous Uncle Eric Tan. Uncle Eric 

Tan was sent to GMAD to help establish GMAD. He has 

many years of experience as part of GMSJ’s leadership. 

He came to oversee the growth of GMAD. Every Sunday he 

would sit in GMAD and worship with us. He worshipped with 

us and had listened to four pastors preached in GMAD in 

the past 6 years. I am very encouraged by his passion and 

seriousness. Uncle Eric Tan is a person who is not afraid to 

verbalize his opinions on church growth and in worshipping 

the Lord. He is one of the role models in the church for 

leadership skills. 

The second cornerstone is the ever patient Sis Liew. Sis 

Liew attended GMAD since we started in Ara Damansara. 

Perhaps, her patience is due to her previous career as a 

teacher. She would patiently teach Pastor Caleb every week 

on how to effectively preach in English. She also patiently 

prayed for the salvation of her husband. Today, Bro Liew has 

accepted Christ Jesus as his personal Savior. She would 

also patiently participate in GMAD working committee with a 

team of young and inexperienced people. She would always 

patiently share her experience on how to make the church 

more comfortable for the congregation. 

The third cornerstone is the young-at-heart Reverend David 

Boey. His heart is full of love and concern for his congregation. 

He is always enthusiastic and passionate about 

nurturing his members to become people who are after 

God’s heart. He would also encourage his members to serve 

and participate in the church ministries. He is always lively 

and energized on the pulpit and in our working committee 

meetings. He is the role model for servant leadership. 

I thank God for GMSJ’s leaders who had the vision to put 

GMAD in Ara Damansara. I really appreciate the leaders and 

the congregation in GMSJ for their unceasing prayers and 

guidance for GMAD to become a local church. I commend 

their Christ like unconditional love and compassion for 

people. God bless GMSJ & GMAD.
