Antonio de Pereda (1611-1678) was born in Valladolid. His<br />
two younger brothers were both painters and also his<br />
parents. He received his education in Madrid. In 1635 Pereda<br />
was commissioned for various religious building /<br />
organisations after the death of Crescenzi, who influenced<br />
and guided him in his education. He started his career in<br />
history painting which was considered to be one of the<br />
highest genres in painting and widely sought after. This<br />
allowed Pereda to create his images on a large scale. He<br />
was a Baroque painter, well known for his still life’s, for which<br />

Still Life originates from the Middle Ages it consists of inanimate<br />
objects, usually everyday objects and religious items and<br />
symbols. Still life is one of the lowest genres in art, therefore<br />
most still life's are painted on a small scale.<br />
