<strong>WPGA</strong> <strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Programs</strong> are exciting,<br />

engaging and FUN! <strong>Programs</strong> are ageappropriate<br />

and include skimboarding,<br />

sports, robotics, animation, cooking,<br />

tennis, photography, science and<br />

wilderness survival.<br />

Program Times & Pricing<br />

• Half Day: $180 (9am–12pm and 1pm–4pm)<br />

• Full Day: $310 (Combine a morning and afternoon<br />

program in the same week and save $50)<br />

*Lunch is not provided. Children are supervised during<br />

lunch and escorted to their afternoon programs.<br />

• Before/After Care: $40 per week (8am-9am and<br />

4pm-5pm). Daily rate is $10 half day and $20 full day.<br />

Program Information<br />

What Should I Pack?<br />

• A backpack that your child is able to carry<br />

themselves. The backpack should include a full<br />

water bottle, snacks and a sun hat.<br />

• Parents should apply sunscreen on their children<br />

prior to arrival. If reapplication is required, please<br />

pack sunscreen and connect with the program<br />

instructor at drop-off.<br />

• For our youngest participants, please pack a<br />

change of clothes.<br />

Full-Day <strong>Programs</strong><br />

• Children should pack a healthy, nut-free lunch.<br />

• Participants who are enrolled in both morning and<br />

afternoon programs are supervised at lunch and<br />

will eat in the Early Childhood Education Centre<br />

(ages 3-6 years) or dining hall before going to the<br />

playground for free play and organized games.<br />

A to Z <strong>Programs</strong> (3-6 years)<br />

• To enroll, children must turn 4 in the <strong>2017</strong><br />

calendar year (born in 2013). They must also be<br />

able to communicate their basic needs in English<br />

and use the bathroom independently.<br />

<strong>Programs</strong> that Include Swimming (indicated<br />

if the program is called “___ & Swim”)<br />

• Children will be in the water for 30 minutes<br />

of free play.<br />

• Children must bring a bathing suit, towel<br />

and goggles.<br />

• Changing is supervised.<br />

• Participants who wish to swim without a lifejacket<br />

will be assessed first by our lifeguards.<br />

• If your child is unable to swim, alternate activities<br />

will be offered.<br />

Off-Campus <strong>Programs</strong> (Mega Fun,<br />

Skimboarding, Golf)<br />

• Participants will be transported to venues in<br />

<strong>WPGA</strong> school buses by Class 4 drivers and <strong>WPGA</strong><br />

teachers.<br />

• Off-campus programs are led by experienced<br />

instructors with access to first aid equipment.<br />

• If children use a booster seat, parents are asked to<br />

label it and give it to the program instructor.<br />

Program Policies<br />

• For cancellations with more than 24 hours from<br />

the start of the first class, a $25 processing fee<br />

applies (refund less $25).<br />

• For cancellations with less than 24 hours from the<br />

start of the first class, there are no refunds.<br />

• For sessions missed due to illness, a <strong>WPGA</strong><br />

<strong>Summer</strong> <strong>Programs</strong> credit is offered.<br />

• <strong>WPGA</strong> retains the right to cancel programs<br />

because of low enrollment.<br />

• Children must be able to communicate their basic<br />

needs in English in order to enroll.


Week 1: June 26–30 | Morning <strong>Programs</strong><br />

A to Z Canadiana (3-6 years)<br />

Happy 150th birthday, Canada! Celebrate our<br />

nation’s momentous birthday with favourite<br />

Canadian animals such as the moose, beaver,<br />

polar bear and Canada goose. Create Canadianinspired<br />

crafts, experience Canadian artists, read<br />

from Canadian authors and explore Canadian<br />

biomes—all activities have an ABC twist for<br />

emerging readers.<br />

*A to Z programs are led by BC certified elementary<br />

teachers and take place in our Early Childhood<br />

Education Centre, which is purposefully designed for<br />

young learners.<br />

Imagine That! (4-6 years)<br />

Dream, pretend, create and grow! In child<br />

development, the power of imagination is well<br />

documented. By stretching the boundaries of<br />

reality through imaginative play, children will fly<br />

to the moon, dive to the bottom of the ocean,<br />

travel through time and even become invisible!<br />

Paints, Poses & Pages (4-8 years)<br />

From creating art with paint, chalk and pastels<br />

to bending and balancing in yoga’s mindful<br />

movements and reading award-winning<br />

children’s books, children will be engaged<br />

physically, mentally and creatively while having<br />

loads of fun!<br />

Build It & Swim (5-9 years)<br />

Use mounds of Lego, upcycled items, food, ooey<br />

gooeys, plasticine, natural materials and more to<br />

build. Build what? Things that roll, tower, launch,<br />

make noise, and make mom and dad say: “Did<br />

YOU make that?” Includes lifeguard-supervised<br />

swims in the <strong>WPGA</strong> pool, so bring your bathing<br />

suit, towel and goggles.<br />

Multisport & Swim (5-10 years)<br />

Play sports galore including soccer, floor hockey,<br />

dodgeball, basketball, tennis, water polo and<br />

lacrosse. Cooperative games using hula hoops,<br />

the Imagination Station, bean bags, parachutes,<br />

bowling pins and rolling boards round out this<br />

outdoor program focused on age-appropriate<br />

motor development. Includes lifeguardsupervised<br />

swims in the <strong>WPGA</strong> pool, so bring your<br />

bathing suit, towel and goggles.<br />

Happy Birthday, Canada (6-11 years)<br />

Happy 150th birthday, Canada! Explore Canada’s<br />

natural environments, symbols, provinces and<br />

territories, iconic animals (moose, beaver, polar<br />

bear. . .) and history in this special weeklong<br />

birthday celebration. Learn about our nation in a<br />

whole new way and party, party, party!<br />

Week 1: June 26–30 | Morning <strong>Programs</strong>


Mega Fun (6-12 years)<br />

The annual favourite returns! Lazer tag, bowling,<br />

waterpark adventures, mini-golf… this is the<br />

ultimate high-energy, off-campus adventure<br />

camp. Participants will be transported to the<br />

various activities and venues in our musical <strong>WPGA</strong><br />

school buses.<br />

Tennis - Junior Fundamentals (7-11 years)<br />

<strong>Summer</strong> Smash Tennis serves up the fun! Young<br />

beginners are introduced to the game through<br />

the progressive tennis model: high energy, gamebased<br />

lessons that use the half-court stage. This<br />

program focuses on inspiring a love for the game<br />

while building a strong technical foundation.<br />

Animation & Swim (7-12 years)<br />

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, will be to<br />

create the illusion of motion using your artistic<br />

skills. Projects incorporate methods such as<br />

flipbooks, zoetropes, and stop motion animation.<br />

And, if you love drawing, this course will help<br />

your doodles come to life. Includes lifeguardsupervised<br />

swims in the <strong>WPGA</strong> pool, so bring your<br />

bathing suit, towel and goggles.<br />

Wilderness Survival (7-12 years)<br />

In this outdoor adventure camp, participants will<br />

create and build an emergency shelter, navigate<br />

using a map and compass, employ the principles<br />

of camouflage and concealment, light a fire, and<br />

even purify water without a filtration system. Hike<br />

through the endowment lands and <strong>WPGA</strong>’s own<br />

urban forest, filter water at the beach and dive<br />

head first into nature!<br />

Saltus Basketball Camp (11-13 years)<br />

Led by Saltus Athletic Academy, this coed<br />

basketball program provides extensive training<br />

for players to develop fundamental game<br />

knowledge, team concepts and individual skills.<br />

With a high coach to athlete ratio, players will<br />

be placed in groups of similar skill to ensure<br />

everyone receives the proper level of challenge.<br />

T-shirt provided. Participants will be supervised<br />

over lunch.<br />

Ahoy, mates! Follow maps to dig for golden<br />

treasures, craft costumes, and make your very<br />

own parrot sidekick. Explore the science behind<br />

sinking, floating and sail boats and become an<br />

underwater naturalist as you learn about ocean<br />

inhabitants. Land-lubbers welcome!<br />

Build It Maker Camp (4-8 years)<br />

Use mounds of Lego, upcycled items, food, ooey<br />

gooeys, plasticine, natural materials and more to<br />

build. Build what? Things that roll, tower, launch,<br />

make noise, and make mom and dad say: “Did<br />

YOU make that?”<br />

<strong>WPGA</strong>’s Got Talent! (5-10 years)<br />

Show off your wild and wacky talents and build a<br />

few more! Drama, singing, dancing, joke-telling,<br />

magic-making, building extreme dominoes . . . no<br />

talent is left behind. Not sure what your talent is?<br />

Our instructors will help you discover it! Includes<br />

magician and talent show for families on the last<br />

day.<br />

Multisport & Swim (5-10 years)<br />

Play sports galore including soccer, floor hockey,<br />

dodgeball, basketball, tennis, water polo and<br />

lacrosse. Cooperative games using hula hoops,<br />

the Imagination Station, bean bags, parachutes,<br />

bowling pins and rolling boards round out this<br />

Minecraft & Swim (6-13 years)<br />

As a castaway in a new land, learn to build your<br />

own world among friends by exploring resources<br />

and taking on challenges to refine your building<br />

techniques. Newbies and serious gamers are<br />

welcome. Includes lifeguard-supervised swims in<br />

the <strong>WPGA</strong> pool, so bring your bathing suit, towel<br />

and goggles.<br />

chipping, full swing), learn golf etiquette and<br />

rules, and practise physical activities that improve<br />

agility, balance and coordination. Classes include<br />

greenside bunkers and pitching (weather<br />

permitting) and are taught by PGA of Canada golf<br />

professionals. Participants will be transported to<br />

the Musqueam Golf and Learning Academy in<br />

<strong>WPGA</strong> school buses.<br />

Tennis - Junior Aces (8-14 years)<br />

<strong>Summer</strong> Smash Tennis serves up the fun!<br />

Develop and improve your tennis skills through<br />

high energy, game-based lessons that use<br />

the progressive tennis model. This program<br />

emphasizes building a strong technical<br />

foundation as well as strategy and point play.<br />

Beginner and intermediate levels welcome.<br />

Making Ancient History (10-13 years)<br />

Delve into the ancient worlds of Greece,<br />

Rome, Egypt and more! From architecture, art<br />

and language, learn about these fascinating<br />

civilizations that once ruled on earth. Make a<br />

Greek vase, build a model temple, design and<br />

manufacture early coins, be a gladiator, create<br />

sculptures and a cartouche, speak an ancient<br />

language—with so many options, projects will be<br />

tailored to each participant’s interests.<br />

Red Cross Babysitting (11-15 years)<br />

Earn your Canadian Red Cross babysitting<br />

certification by learning basic first aid, kid-friendly<br />

activities and emergency preparedness. Taught<br />

by a Red Cross certified instructor and <strong>WPGA</strong><br />

teacher.<br />

A to Z Nature Detectives (3-6 years)<br />

The ultimate fresh air learning. Solve nature<br />

mysteries through exploration, experimentation,<br />

art and play! Make nature-inspired crafts, learn<br />

about amazing animals and play outdoor games,<br />

all with an ABC twist for emerging readers.<br />

*A to Z programs are led by BC certified elementary<br />

teachers and take place in our Early Childhood<br />

Education Centre, which is purposefully designed for<br />

young learners.<br />

Mini Olympics (4-6 years)<br />

Run, jump, throw! Build a torch for the relay, hoist<br />

your flag for the Olympic ceremony, sing anthems<br />

and learn about summer and winter sports.<br />

Includes both individual and cooperative, teambuilding<br />

activities. Perfect for active children<br />

working on developing gross motor skills.<br />

A-B-C, a great reader I am going to be! <strong>Summer</strong><br />

is the best time to read, read, read. Children will<br />

play literacy games with sight word recognition,<br />

rhyming, vocabulary building and fun phonics<br />

activities to strengthen reading skills. Led by<br />

a certified elementary teacher with Orton-<br />

Gillingham training, this program has limited<br />

capacity to ensure individual and small group<br />

instruction.<br />

(5-11 years)<br />

Broaden your horizons! “Travel” to a different<br />

continent every day and learn what life is like<br />

for children around the world. From Australia<br />

to Africa, explore countries using Google Earth,<br />

sample cultural food, play games and make<br />

crafts. Includes lifeguard-supervised swims in the<br />

<strong>WPGA</strong> pool, so bring your bathing suit, towel and<br />

goggles.<br />

DolphinPOD Innovation Challenges<br />

(6-9 years)<br />

Think, create and build in this hands-on<br />

innovation camp, which stands for Play, Others<br />

and Downtime (POD). Participate in different<br />

invention and building activities that challenge<br />

creativity, critical-thinking and communication<br />

skills. Includes indoor and outdoor activities,<br />

social skills development, and wellness tools such<br />

as yoga, mindfulness, gratitude and optimism.<br />

Skimboarding (6-12 years)<br />

skimboard and start building your arsenal of<br />

Making Ancient History (10-13 years)<br />

Fairy Tale Festival (4-6 years)<br />

Calling all magicians, princesses, dwarves, knights<br />

and castle builders. Come to the royal ball, read<br />

about fighting dragons, go on epic quests and<br />

even have a tea party! Explore all the animal<br />

friends found in fairy tales and create your very<br />

own sidekick.<br />

Build It & Swim (5-9 years)<br />

gooeys, plasticine, natural materials and more to<br />

more. Learn science through testing, touching<br />

and tasting!<br />

Week 2: July 3-7 | Afternoon <strong>Programs</strong>


Drama-rama & Swim (5-10 years)<br />

Write, direct, act in, film and edit your own<br />

improv skits and even experience Shakespeare.<br />

Build confidence by performing for peers and<br />

an audience. Includes a film screening (with<br />

popcorn) on the last day as well as lifeguardsupervised<br />

swims in the <strong>WPGA</strong> pool, so bring your<br />

bathing suit, towel and goggles.<br />

Beaching, Beading & Bending (6-11 years)<br />

Do you love to bead? Do you like yoga? How<br />

about doing both at the BEACH!? Create art and<br />

jewellery using all types of beautiful beads and<br />

then get bendy in yoga class. No experience<br />

necessary.<br />

Combine graphic design and technology to<br />

create your own gaming universe. Identify your<br />

gaming style and then write code to make your<br />

ideas come to life. Projects will be individualized<br />

and participants will work together to test and<br />

refine their gaming skills.<br />

A to Z Ocean Adventures (3-6 years)<br />

Dive into an underwater world! Explore the<br />

wonder in our oceans, create shark and jellyfish<br />

crafts, and learn about sea creatures big and<br />

small, all with an ABC twist for emerging readers.<br />

Education Centre, which is purposefully designed for<br />

As a castaway in a new land, learn to build your<br />

own world among friends by exploring resources<br />

and taking on challenges to refine your building<br />

techniques. Newbies and serious gamers<br />

Golf at the Musqueam Golf and Learning<br />

Academy (8-14 years)<br />

Develop fundamental golf skills (putting,<br />

chipping, full swing), learn golf etiquette and<br />

rules, and practise physical activities that improve<br />

agility, balance and coordination. Classes include<br />

greenside bunkers and pitching (weather<br />

permitting) and are taught by PGA of Canada golf<br />

professionals. Participants will be transported to<br />

the Musqueam Golf and Learning Academy in<br />

<strong>WPGA</strong> school buses.<br />

Tennis - Junior Aces (8-14 years)<br />

<strong>Summer</strong> Smash Tennis serves up the fun!<br />

Develop and improve your tennis skills through<br />

high energy, game-based lessons that use<br />

the progressive tennis model. This program<br />

emphasizes building a strong technical<br />

foundation as well as strategy and point play.<br />

Beginner and intermediate levels welcome.<br />

Masterchef (7-12 years)<br />

Tie on an apron for a full culinary experience!<br />

Make delicious sweet and savoury recipes from<br />

scratch with our certified chefs. Recipe book<br />

included so you can replicate your new skills and<br />

dishes at home.<br />
