Christmas Shopping<br />
Santa’s found the perfect place to stock<br />
up on Christmas presents this year, now<br />
that Ruddocks of Lincoln has opened up<br />
its new toy department.<br />
If you’re looking for the perfect children’s<br />
Christmas presents this year, you’ll be pleased<br />
to know you don’t have to drive for miles – or<br />
go online.<br />
Ruddocks of Lincoln – one of the city’s oldest<br />
businesses – now has a dedicated children’s toy<br />
section, with a huge array of toys to suit all<br />
budgets. The High Street store opened its toy<br />
department this summer and is gearing up for<br />
a busy Christmas.<br />
The new department is all thanks to owner and<br />
managing director Henry Ruddock’s sevenyear-old<br />
twins, John and Sarah. Henry says:<br />
“Two years ago, the children made me realise<br />
that there’s a different world out there. I<br />
looked around and thought ‘there’s nowhere in<br />
Lincoln with a dedicated toy shop – why don’t<br />
we give it a go?’<br />
“We slowly started to spread out with a<br />
greater range and then, in August, we opened<br />
our dedicated toy department.”<br />
Henry adds: “We have tried to concentrate on<br />
quality, creative and educational toys.<br />
We’ve got things to do, things to learn, stuff<br />
to assemble, and things to make, such as<br />
jewellery. The twins give feedback on the toys<br />
we stock.”<br />
“There’s something for everyone here. We’ve<br />
got keepsakes, small presents, jigsaws and<br />
small toys that are suitable for taking on<br />
holiday. I would be very surprised if anyone<br />
came into the shop and couldn’t find<br />
something to suit their requirements or their<br />
price range.<br />
“But if there is something that people would<br />
like to see that we don’t stock, I would like to<br />
hear from them. We do value customer<br />
feedback.”<br />

“At first, we stocked a few toys to see how<br />
they would sell, and we got some great<br />
comments and feedback from customers, who<br />
were impressed with the fact that the toys we<br />
stocked were a bit different. We then started<br />
talking to one or two suppliers and got access<br />
to a whole new range of stuff.<br />
