6 TIPS
for your
Bali Holiday
Shop
'til you drop
Explore for
yourself
Foodie heaven
Shoppers are spoilt in Bali. From
local markets to world-class malls,
save some space for a medley of
take-home treasures.
Local markets offer a dense
assortment of both trinkets and
foot traffic, with Sukawati Art
Market well regarded as Bali’s most
legendary. This two-storey hub
of sellers and hagglers stocks all
manner of handmade keepsakes.
Malls such as the Discovery
Shopping Mall and Beachwalk on
Kuta Beach offer an air-conditioned
escape from the heat and can be
accessed directly from the beach.
Bartering is mostly only accepted at
markets and won’t be well received
in malls or boutiques.
Venture to Seminyak for designer
items and if you’re looking for
something more in-keeping with
Bali’s harmonious reputation,
sustainable and ethically-conscious
stores are popping up everywhere.
Hiring a driver is a smart idea,
and for two main reasons. On a
practical level, you remove the
worry of driving a manual in a
foreign country, alongside scooters,
traffic jams and livestock! Secondly,
everything is planned for you. It’s
less hassle, less time consuming,
and you get driven from door-todoor,
absorbing all the highlights.
From volcanoes and mountain
regions, to small villages and coffee
plantations, your driver will take
you to sites you might not have
found yourself. While discussing
each location, you’ll get insider’s
knowledge from a genuine local,
including your driver’s personal
thoughts on just about everything.
Hiring a driver starts from as little
as $40 per day. Prices usually
cover petrol, whereas additional
costs (like entrance fees) won’t be
included.
A warung is a small, casual dining
establishment, usually family
owned. They don’t look flashy but
they’re your go-to for authentic
Balinese cuisine.
Start your day at a warung serving
strong Balinese coffee (kopi).
Thanks to the upper region’s rich
volcanic soil the coffee will please
the most distinguished Kiwi palette.
As for must-try dishes, babi guling
(suckling pig) is a favourite. Pasted
with turmeric and stuffed with at
least 10 ingredients, the pig is then
spit roasted over coconut husks.
Bali has an overwhelming choice
of beautiful restaurants, some of
our favourites include Mama San
Kitchen Bar Lounge, this fabulous
restaurant offers old and new world
influence in their Asian cuisine.
For a unique setting head to Ayana
Resort, home to the infamous Rock
Bar! Secure your spot in time for the
sunset and 360 degree views.
2

Fun for
all ages
Due to its protective reef and
breakwaters, Sanur Beach, on the
island’s east coast, is a favoured
hangout for families. The entire
5 kilometres stretch is quiet and
relaxed, with several restaurants,
cafés and shady palm trees.
When it comes to waterparks, the
kids couldn't even dream of one as
cool as the sprawling Waterbom
Waterpark. The best in Asia, it covers
all sorts of heights and frights, with
slides that are a whopping 250 metres
long and others that reach speeds of
70 kilometres per hour.
Bali Hai Reef Cruises offer a little
bit of something for every family
member. Departing Benoa Harbour,
the full day luxury cruise sails to
Lembongan Island where it moors
alongside a purpose-built pontoon.
With unlimited banana boat rides, a
35 metre water slide, refreshments
and village excursions, there’s
something for everyone.
More bang for
your rupiah
When in Bali, you’d be a fool not to
indulge in a massage. Or several.
In places such as Legian, Seminyak
and Kuta, there’s a massage
boutique every 50 metres. Simply
walk in and enjoy a full body onehour
massage for as little as $12.
Food and drinks are also a bargain,
with bottled water costing little
more than $1, and local warungs
with menu items starting from $5.
Sanur Beach is one of the best
places in Bali to partake in yoga
because cheap rates are a walletfriendly
$15 per lesson. And if
it’s outdoor pursuits you crave,
surfing lessons can be sought for
$8 and you’ll get a full two hours.
Or if you’d prefer an underwater
experience, rent a mask and snorkel
in the Coral Triangle Region for less
than $15.
Come home
restored
Bali offers an infinite amount of
feel-good wellness options. From
spas to cheap massages, reflexology
and yoga, it’s all about finding your
inner calm.
Bali is popular for its coffee (Kopi
Luwak) which they incorporate
into many spa treatments due to
its anti-inflammatory properties.
Chakras are meant to stimulate
your ‘third eye’ and open a portal
into your soul, but if that’s all a bit
intense, try one of Bali’s numerous
rooftop spas, with bars and resident
DJs to complement a full menu of
treatments.
Enjoy Qigong (a form of meditation
that incorporates both Yoga and
Tai Chi), or if you’re a hands-on
individual, try a silver workshop
in Ubud, where you’ll learn
traditional Balinese silver-smithing
to create your own bespoke piece of
jewellery.
Experience
Bali
Known as the ‘Land of the Gods’, Bali is undeniably beautiful. For a small tropical
island, Bali has an amazing ability to provide something for everyone. Initially
discovered by surfers for its amazing beaches, Bali is now well recognized for
not only its great surf and stunning beaches, but also its diving and array of other
watersports, resorts, restaurants and nightlife. Whether you enjoy crowds or a
secluded beach, Bali has the lot!
Each region is so unique which makes it impossible to describe Bali simply. This is
largely due to the many different villages, each with their own individual charm and
allure that collectively make up Bali.
Festivals and Events 2017
28 Mar 17 Nyepi Day
Known as the day of silence, Nyepi marks the celebration
of the Balinese New Year in the Hindu Lunar calendar.
On this day the island literally shuts down. Hotels do not
accept guests arrival, facilities outside of the resort are
limited, vehicles are not allowed on the streets and use of
electricity is restricted.
Moving away from the main beaches, Bali’s interior is a maze of fertile grassy plains,
terraced rice paddies, striking lakes and vast volcanic mountains. The east coast is
an area of great historical, cultural and spiritual significance with some of the most
breathtaking natural scenery and idyllic village life on the island. This incredible
landscape is only outdone by the warmth and friendliness of Balinese people.
However you look at it, Bali is great value! Accommodation is well priced and
plentiful, the shopping abundant, varied and cheap, and the food is delicious; think
lemongrass, coriander, tamarind and ginger. You will never cease to be amazed at
how the real beauty of Bali will reveal itself.
Experience Bali
Our favourite things to see and do
Dining – Having evolved over the years, Bali now has an
overwhelming choice of restaurants and is a real dining
destination. From cheap and cheerful, authentic Indonesian
to fine dining and modern fusion, the choices are endless.
For an eclectic mix of old Indonesia with a modern flair, head
to Biku – blending together the unique combination of a tea
lounge, restaurant, antiques and book store all in one. Mama
San Kitchen Bar Lounge is a fabulous restaurant offering old
and new world influence in their Asian cuisine. For a unique
setting head to Ayana Resort, home to the infamous Rock Bar!
Don't be late though, opening is at 4pm so be sure to secure
your spot in time for sunset.
Potato Head Beach Club
Temple Visit – There are literally thousands of temples
across Bali. Small devotional shrines are scattered through
rice fields and often in hotel grounds. Some of the larger
and more impressive temples, which are well worth visiting
include Besakih (the mother temple situated in Eastern Bali),
Uluwatu (perched high on a cliff on the southern coastline)
and Tanah Lot (the impressive shore temple).
Beach Bars – Nothing is better than watching the sun go
down with an evening drink in hand. With an array of trendy
beach bars in the upmarket Seminyak precinct, KU DE TA
or Potato Head Beach Club are great options and the most
well known.
Spa Treatments – You will be amazed at the incredible
number of spas available in Bali. Most hotels also have at
least massage facilities, if not an established spa complex
with many treatment rooms.
Cooking Classes – What better way to take back
memories of Bali, than to learn how to cook some of the
exotic dishes that make Bali famous. Most hotels offer
a cooking class and there are also a number of respected
cooking schools operating regular programmes, teaching a
range of Indonesian dishes.
Bali Food Safari is a progressive style dining
experience, taking you on a journey through
some of the most remarkable and respected
restaurants in Bali.
Dining tours offer an experience that
surprise and engage the senses, taking you
from your accommodation to an array of
mystery venues in one brilliant evening,
dining in a selection of the best handpicked
participating restaurants, discovered
and undiscovered, exploring the most
exceptional and delicious delights Bali has
to offer.
4 venue dining experience in Seminyak or
Ubud
Includes: A private driver guide for the evening
and 4 venues including set meal selections
(drinks are additional)
Whether you’re a new visitor or a frequenter
to the island, this tour will expose you to a
dining experience like no other as you sit
back and let your taste-buds do the walking.
a more upmarket, fashionable feel to it.
Made up of three small islands located just off the northwest tip of
Lombok and accessible by boat or plane. The Gili Islands are a popular
Gili Trawangan, or Gili T for short, is the largest of the islands and the
put you off, this island has the best beaches of them all. With crystal
clear waters and secluded white beaches, you are forced to relax on this
laid back island, and great for a romantic getaway to flop and drop.
Gili Air is the perfect mix of the other two islands. With plenty of bars,
restaurants and dive centres to keep you entertained as well as unspoilt
white sandy beaches and great snorkelling spots. Gili Air is a great place
been issued. These fees are to cover administration and communication
costs. You may also be required to pay any Supplier imposed fees.
13. NON-USE OF SERVICES OR FACILITIES
If, of your own choice, you decide not to use part or parts of the arranged
your travel agent.
15. SERVICE SATISFACTION
Supplier. If this is not possible immediately, or if you are still dissatisfied,
please contact your travel agent. Both we and your travel agent will
endeavour to investigate on your behalf and to negotiate with the Supplier
to resolve the matter as soon as possible, so that you continue to enjoy
your journey.
action against the Suppliers is likely to be subject to the terms of your
contract with them, and may be governed by the laws of other countries.
