Rennie Park Sees Improvements
Some of you may have noticed a few changes at Rennie Park. Since we
know you have active imaginations, we’ll fill you in on what’s going on.
Hopefully, by the time you read this, the new soccer goals will be
installed. During soccer season, we can have as many as five teams trying
to practice at Rennie on a given night. We decided to purchase two more
goals so that three teams could practice on the main field at a time. Some
of the teams have younger kids and they can practice on any open patch
of grass. By adding the goals, we can indeed have five teams practicing
there at once.
Most of the kids on these soccer teams are Nottingham Country residents,
so we wanted to be able to accommodate their need for practice space.
We also wanted to address a few safety issues. That is why we removed
the benches; they were actually ON the soccer field, so that was a safety
hazard in addition to making no sense.
Additionally, the field was full of holes and that can be very dangerous for
kids who are running around. The holes have been filled.
Finally, we will be adding a set of lights along the middle section of the
track (the piece of track that cuts across the middle of the park). There
are residents who like to work out or walk there at night and this will offer
additional safety for those folks.
Come Join the July 4Th Parade
The Nottingham Country Mom’s Group is inviting all residents to attend
its 2 nd Annual 4 th of July Parade. Bring your kiddos, grand-kiddos and/or
your furry friends on a leash! Strollers, bikes, scooters and wagons are
welcome. The parade will begin promptly at 9 AM from Rennie Park. Our
wonderful area firefighters will lead the parade, which earned very high
marks last year. Feel free to join the fun!
Otherwise, moms interested in membership in the group can send an
email to ncmomskaty@gmail.com.
Due Diligence For Dogs
Heavy sigh. This item will NOT win us any friends, but we are duty bound
to speak the truth, so here goes.
We have had a significant increase in animals (mostly dogs, but some
cats) running loose in the neighborhood. If you are a pet owner, please
be more responsible. Please have your pets chipped and be sure they are
wearing collars with ID tags on them.
There have been several incidents of residents being bitten by dogs over
the last year; one was particularly serious. Dogs have also been bitten.
We do understand that dogs are master escape artists, but do your best
to contain them.
We also continue to receive a flood of complaints about dogs who bark
incessantly. One resident reports that in the four houses that surround
hers, there are eight dogs who bark on a regular basis, at all hours of the
day and night. People will leave their dogs outside barking endlessly, for
30 minutes at a time or longer. No one wants to hear that. Please be more
courteous to your neighbors.
Finally, please use the Mutt Mitts that we provide at Rennie Park to
pick up your dog’s excrement. Children shouldn’t have to worry about
stepping in that when they’re playing. It’s obviously not sanitary.
Unfortunately, there really isn’t anyone to call about this issue; city and
county resources are overwhelmed with the abundance of stray animals
in our city. That is why we are asking you to please be more responsible
with your pets. We would hate to have a child seriously injured by a dog
that should not be out roaming.
Heavy Trash Mix-Up
Again, we offer our sincere apologies for the Heavy Trash Day mix-up. For
those of you who don’t know, we announced that Heavy Trash Day would
be April 8 th at Nottingham Country Elementary (NCE), but the MCUD had
it down for April 15 th so Best Trash was not there on April 8 th to pick up
materials from residents.
The HOA was alerted pretty early in the day and the decision was made
to not accept materials, because Best Trash did not have the capacity to
pick it all up on April 8 th . It certainly would not be very neighborly of us to
leave a giant pile of trash for NCE to deal with Monday morning.
Therefore, we asked KISD police and our Precinct 5 constables to inform
residents of the situation as they arrived at NCE. Some residents were
understanding, while others were not. We are sorry to report that some
residents actually cursed at the officers who were simply there to do their
jobs.
We are asking residents to be more polite in the future. We understand
that loading heavy trash is a job you want to do only once. But we are
human and this was simply a miscommunication between the HOA and
the MCUD. We have taken steps to ensure it does not happen again.
Before the officers arrived to block off the lot, residents had just left a ton
of trash on the lot. Best Trash was very gracious and came by to pick it up
and we are surely grateful for their outstanding customer service.
Summer Issues
To quote Alice Cooper, school’s out for summer. Please be careful while
driving around, as kids will be out and playing. We are sorry to say that
we usually see an increase in vandalism to mailboxes, cars and garages
during the summer. Therefore, please lock your vehicles and do not leave
valuables in them.
NCCIA Delinquency Report
Below is the current delinquency status of past due homeowner’s fees
as of 4/17/17:
Total amount outstanding is $89,802. Of that amount, 18 homeowners
are past due for two or more years and owe a total of $41,139. Of course,
the vast amount of that sum is due to past due fees, legal fees and
bankruptcy fees. The breakdown of those 18 homeowners is as follows:
• two homes have been abandoned and are awaiting foreclosure (one for
over eight years now);
• one home is under contract and will most likely be sold soon;
• six homeowners are under Chapter 13 bankruptcy (several of these
have been in and out of bankruptcy two or more times in the past few
years). It should be noted that many individuals do not complete Chapter
13 bankruptcy due to a number of factors. NCCIA will eventually recover
those past due fees as they cannot be dismissed;
• two are paying monthly installments;
• NCCIA is filing suit against five homeowners;
• we have filed a lien against one homeowner and
• one will most likely be foreclosed upon due to a tax lien.
Approximately 137 homeowners still owe just the 2017 fee plus late
fees. That comprises the majority of the remaining $48,663 outstanding.
Those homeowners recently received a certified letter as required by
Texas law - at a cost of $47 - advising them that legal action will follow if
payment is not made within 30 days.
If you are a NEW homeowner to NC and you have an escrow account
with your mortgage company, please note that mortgage companies
Nottingham Country | June 2017 3
Air Conditioning Contractors of America
WILL NOT pay HOA fees. That is solely your responsibility, so it would
behoove you to get it paid. If you wish to pay online, please go to www.
nottinghamcountry.org, register for the site and you can make your
payment. There is an additional fee for credit card payments but NOT
debit cards. You can also call Nancy Callaway at SCS Management at 281-
500-7132 if you have any questions regarding your account.
NCCIA wishes to thank the 93% of NC homeowners that managed to
budget $300 per year in order to pay the assessment on time! It should
also be noted that we have one of the lowest annual HOA fees in Harris
County. It would be great if the other 7% could pay on time as well.
Last month we received/on viewed 674 calls for service.
Things have calmed down again.
We had several burglaries last month. One burglary in particular was
weird. It occurred around 8 PM at night. The resident was not home that
particular night but his neighbors observed a suspicious truck parked in
front of his house for like 30 minutes and then a midsize black car drives
up and 3x people get out and go around back, the driver stayed in the
car but the truck leaves. Forced entry was made on the back door and
items stolen. The other burglary is a husband and wife going through
divorce and husband went in the house and took the television and other
items. (this call should have not been titled burglary, since they are not
divorced yet).
There was several BMV also. One complainant left before a report could
be filed and has not returned any calls. The other one occurred on
Ellingham where a vehicle was left unlocked and a camera was stolen.
A Message from Mason Creek
Utility District (Mcud) Spring 2017
By the time this arrives in your mailbox summer will have arrived or be
merely weeks away. The annual community center open house was May
21 st . Access was free for every resident and there were door prizes for
those that signed up for their annual pool membership.
Property values in our area continue to rise and interest in developing
the last remaining vacant commercial tracts of land is showing promise.
Construction for a new commercial building on the large tract of land
located on Westgreen Boulevard, the former location of the golf driving
range, will begin this summer. The property owners have funded a new
sanitary lift station and water supply lines to serve the property and
Mason Creek U.D. will begin construction of those utilities during the
second quarter of this year.
Mason Creek U.D.’s access to water is provided under a permit held by
the City of Houston (COH). The COH has consistently decreased the
maximum allowable pumping rates in recent years in response to a State
of Texas mandate to reduce groundwater pumping by as much as 30%
by year 2020.
The district’s minimum monthly sewer charge will be increasing in June
2017 from $20 to $20.40. For each 1,000 gallons of water used over the
3,000 gallons minimum during the billing period, the sewer rate will
increase by .04 cents for the first tier and .06 cents for the highest tier
(more than 20,000 gallons). While this small increase is in part a response
to meeting requirements set out by the City of Houston, the infrastructure
of our district is now exceeding 40 years in age, failing frequently and
creating some very significant costs to repair and replace failed systems.
Underground water is increasingly becoming a scarce natural resource
and expensive to access. Mason Creek U.D. has begun to study and
evaluate options for implementing a network of water reuse and recycle
systems to serve the public road esplanades, parks, green spaces and
even our neighboring communities to help reduce the demand on our
regional water tables. This will be a long term project that will potentially
take many years to implement and construct. Last year MCUD began a
new initiative to increase the awareness of water conservation within
the community offering a free inspection of residential irrigation systems
and providing free moisture-sensing devices that turn-off irrigation when
it rains. The district has continued to provide this no cost service to the
community. For more details on how to participate visit www.mcud.com/
conservation_irrigation.php or call our district office.
In addition to sanitary sewer and water services, Mason Creek U.D. also
provides for streetlights in the community and solid waste collection.
Each month, the residents of the district set out an estimated 40 tons of
recyclable material to be separated in a local recycle collection center
and ultimately repurposed into other products. If you need a second
container, a larger container or a replacement container please contact
the district office at 281-578-7272 or email at directors@mcud.com for
more information or help.
group! NCGC is a non-profit organization affiliated with the Houston Federation of Garden Clubs, the Texas State Garden Clubs and the National Garden
Clubs. The purpose of the club is to promote the beautification of our community, support local and national educational and civic organizations and
HOW TO ADDRESS THE BOARD DIRECTLY
The monthly meetings of the Board of Directors are held on the second
Thursday, at 6:30 PM at the Mason Creek Community Center Houghton
All members are welcome to attend the meetings. However, due to time
constraints, we cannot allow audience members to speak at the meeting
unless they contact us ahead of time and get put on the agenda. As much
as I dislike telling that to someone who has taken the time out of his
or her schedule to come to the meeting with a concern, I must respect
the time of the volunteers on the Board as well. To get on the agenda,
simply call SCS Management Services, Inc. at 281-463-1777, ext. 7132. Of
course, you may also feel free to put your concerns in writing to any other
Board member or me, via e-mail (our addresses are on the website at
address is clearly printed on the registration form.
summer due to scheduling and/or costs. Participants will receive top
quality instruction on their instruments from our own great KISD and
Houston area Band Directors. Join us for the fifteenth annual Katy ISD
the year! Camp brochures, with the registration form, will be distributed
to KISD band students by their schools’ directors. Camp brochures can
also be downloaded from the Katy ISD Fine Arts webpage above. Plan
to register early in order to guarantee a spot! Again, registrations must
be postmarked by Friday, June 23 rd . If you have already registered and
by an assigned cabin (teaching responsibility) and a lesson is taught about
the value of the day (e.g. Monday is devoted to discussing the value of caring.)
Our staff wear their value t-shirts daily to remind all campers what the
emphasis is for that day. Even discipline is structured around our values: for
instance, a time-out for being uncaring and disrespectful to a fellow camper.
Activities are taught with the premise of respecting the safety rules and
always having faith in yourself and others. Each evening is concluded with an
in-cabin devotional, called Embers, which closes the day by reflecting on the
daily value, daily activities and fellowship with cabin mates and counselors.
These values transcend the camp session and supplement the values taught
at home. The YMCA Ragger Program is also offered for those youth and staff
who wish to be a part of a more spiritual self-growth program.
worship. Of course there will be plenty of time for silly songs, crazy camp
traditions, campfires, s’mores and making new friends! Within their small
age group, campers experience counselor-led Bible studies, activities such
as canoeing, archery, high ropes and much more. Afternoon activities are
camper’s choice, which means that campers choose from two or three
activities offered that day, like kite-building, snorkeling, mountain-biking
and more. We want campers to feel excited about their activities each day,
so we are always coming up with new and different camper’s choices, such
as fort-building or yoga. Meals, evening activities, worships and morning
watch are all camp-wide activities that give kids the chance to meet
everyone at camp and hang out with all our Counselors.
CAMP CHAMPIONS GIRLS SUMMER CAMP
Marble Falls, Texas • 830-598-2571 • campchampions.com
Coed Campers, Ages 5-18
A tradition of excellence since 1967, fantastic activities, and best-trained
counselors are a few of the reasons that Camp Champions is consistently
ranked among the top camps in the country, but what really sets our camp
apart is the intentional community we create year after year. We believe
every child has an inner Champion, and we create a loving community
in which every camper can flourish. Whether they realize it or not, we
push every camper to grow in character skills like independence and
confidence while they are at camp. And because there is an important
niche in our community for every camper to fill, we are consistently told
that our campers are free to discover “the best versions of themselves.”
We are as committed to children and their growth as any institution or
program out there, and our community is the primary way we support
campers in this goal. Of course, we wouldn’t be able to create such a
community if we didn’t have such a blast every day at camp!
