Director of Events at Radisson Blu Edwardian 

Heathrow, Sajid Ahmed tells us what's 

keeping him busy at the London venue. 

What does your typical week involve? 

I've been in this post for 18 months, responsible 

for supporting and guiding a team of 12 who all 

contribute to the venue's smooth running. I host 

daily briefings with the team, diary management, 

strategy setting, face-to-face customer interaction 

and dealing with enquiries and on-site visits. 

I regularly meet with our Board to update them 

on business, including 12 month forecasts. 

What attracted you to the leisure industry? 

My passion lies in hotels and event management. 

I get to meet new people from across the world, 

something I really love having the opportunity to 

do, plus I enjoy the different challenges each 

day brings. 

Why should an event organiser choose 

your hotel? 

We're easily accessible from central London and 

close to one of the largest airports in the world so 

it's a great location for international, national and 

regional guests and delegates. Our event space 

is amazingly flexible and with complimentary WiFi. 

The Atrium and Newbury are both spectacular 

spaces and are used a lot for lunch, refreshments 

and reception areas while the Commonwealth 

Suite is our largest space, accommodating up 

to 700 delegates. 

There's not many hotels in the area which have 

space like ours and we have a lot of repeat 

business which is always a good thing! 

Are there any events at the hotel which really 

stand out? 

There's so many! A particular favourite is from 

last year when one of our rooms was completely 

transformed into a forest! I can't tell you who it 

was for and we weren't allowed to take any 

pictures but we have the pleasure of hosting 

again this year! 



Does being one of Europe's 

largest conference centres 

pose any particular 

challenges? 

Yes! Being up against so many different 

competitors in different countries and cities 

is getting tougher but the biggest challenge 

I find is getting people to come and see our 

fabulous hotel. Seeing the space available 

gives them a greater understanding of what 

we have to offer and what can be created 

and achieved here. 

You've recently launched a new brain box 

room. Can you tell our readers about this? 

The room caters for all kinds of creative minds. 

We have flexible furniture layouts and Squiggle 

glass so ideas can be written on the walls. 

Really clever technology, such as Barco Click, 

the wireless solution which allows presenters to 

share what's on their laptop or mobile device to 

a presentation screen with one single click, and 

our Samsung 65inch touch screens, an Xbox 

and PlayStation! 

The room has been designed to encourage 

innovative ideas so it's great for brain storming 

sessions as well as more traditional meetings. 

What achievements are you most 

proud of? 

Being with this company and the privilege of 

being part of such an amazing conference 

hotel, plus having five wonderful children who 

keep me busy! 

What are your professional goals and dreams? 

For the hotel to be the most admired in the world. 

What do you do away from work? 

Spending time with my family, Liverpool Football 

Club, boxing and a love of food…especially the 

sweet stuff!

Court Celebrates! 

Paul Hindley, General Manager at Best Western 

Cresta Court Hotel, is celebrating 20 years at the 

helm of the well-known south Manchester hotel. 

Joining from the role of regional 

director for Macdonald Hotels 

and Resorts in 1997, Paul has 

spent 40 years in the hotel 

industry with half of this time 

at the Cresta Court Hotel, and 

of course, has been a part of 

many changes both at the hotel 

and in the wider north-west 

hotel sector. 

During his tenure in charge, 

Paul has seen business 

grow strongly and the hotel 

transformed with a series of 

recent renovations. Turnover 

has more than doubled, over 

a million guests have been 

served and he has helped to 

plan catering for nearly two 

million festive diners and 

party revelers. 

He tells us more: 

“I joined the hotel for a fresh 

challenge and because I felt 

that the business had great 

potential to grow and develop. 

We have come a long way and 

recently, I have overseen a 

£1.5M refurbishment scheme 

that has transformed the hotel. 

The opportunity to develop 

the Cresta Court even further 

and see my team going from 

strength-to-strength are two of 

the many reasons why I still love 

my role. Every day brings fresh 

challenges, a host of different 

guests and a real sense of 

achievement. 

The last three years have 

seen a completely new-look 

for the hotel, ensuring that 

we continue to meet the 

expectations of travelers, 

diners and delegates in 2017 

and beyond. It has received 

exceptional feedback from 

guests and we are thrilled with 

the results. 

There are some real highlights 

of my time here, including the 

hotel winning the Altrincham 

& Sale Chamber of Commerce 

Business Award for Leisure 

and Tourism in 2014 and 

becoming the first hotel in south 

Manchester to have achieved 

the Welcome Host business 

accreditation for customer 

service. Both were because 

of my team’s hard work and 

dedication. 

I am also proud to have been 

able to support the wider 

developments in our community.
