Heathrow, Sajid Ahmed tells us what's<br />

keeping him busy at the London venue.<br />

What does your typical week involve?<br />

I've been in this post for 18 months, responsible<br />

for supporting and guiding a team of 12 who all<br />

contribute to the venue's smooth running. I host<br />

daily briefings with the team, diary management,<br />

strategy setting, face-to-face customer interaction<br />

and dealing with enquiries and on-site visits.<br />

I regularly meet with our Board to update them<br />

on business, including 12 month forecasts.<br />

What attracted you to the leisure industry?<br />

My passion lies in hotels and event management.<br />

I get to meet new people from across the world,<br />

something I really love having the opportunity to<br />

do, plus I enjoy the different challenges each<br />

day brings.<br />

Why should an event organiser choose<br />

your hotel?<br />

We're easily accessible from central London and<br />

close to one of the largest airports in the world so<br />

it's a great location for international, national and<br />

regional guests and delegates. Our event space<br />

is amazingly flexible and with complimentary WiFi.<br />

The Atrium and Newbury are both spectacular<br />

spaces and are used a lot for lunch, refreshments<br />

and reception areas while the Commonwealth<br />

Suite is our largest space, accommodating up<br />

to 700 delegates.<br />

There's not many hotels in the area which have<br />

space like ours and we have a lot of repeat<br />

business which is always a good thing!<br />

Are there any events at the hotel which really<br />

stand out?<br />

There's so many! A particular favourite is from<br />

last year when one of our rooms was completely<br />

transformed into a forest! I can't tell you who it<br />

was for and we weren't allowed to take any<br />

pictures but we have the pleasure of hosting<br />

again this year!<br />

pose any particular<br />

challenges?<br />

Yes! Being up against so many different<br />

competitors in different countries and cities<br />

is getting tougher but the biggest challenge<br />

I find is getting people to come and see our<br />

fabulous hotel. Seeing the space available<br />

gives them a greater understanding of what<br />

we have to offer and what can be created<br />

and achieved here.<br />

You've recently launched a new brain box<br />

room. Can you tell our readers about this?<br />

The room caters for all kinds of creative minds.<br />

We have flexible furniture layouts and Squiggle<br />

glass so ideas can be written on the walls.<br />

Really clever technology, such as Barco Click,<br />

the wireless solution which allows presenters to<br />

share what's on their laptop or mobile device to<br />

a presentation screen with one single click, and<br />

our Samsung 65inch touch screens, an Xbox<br />

and PlayStation!<br />

The room has been designed to encourage<br />

innovative ideas so it's great for brain storming<br />

sessions as well as more traditional meetings.<br />

What achievements are you most<br />

proud of?<br />

Being with this company and the privilege of<br />

being part of such an amazing conference<br />

hotel, plus having five wonderful children who<br />

keep me busy!<br />

What are your professional goals and dreams?<br />

For the hotel to be the most admired in the world.<br />

What do you do away from work?<br />

Spending time with my family, Liverpool Football<br />

Club, boxing and a love of food…especially the<br />

sweet stuff!<br />

Paul Hindley, General Manager at Best Western<br />

Cresta Court Hotel, is celebrating 20 years at the<br />

helm of the well-known south Manchester hotel.<br />

Joining from the role of regional<br />

director for Macdonald Hotels<br />

and Resorts in 1997, Paul has<br />

spent 40 years in the hotel<br />

industry with half of this time<br />

at the Cresta Court Hotel, and<br />

of course, has been a part of<br />

many changes both at the hotel<br />

and in the wider north-west<br />

hotel sector.<br />

During his tenure in charge,<br />

Paul has seen business<br />

grow strongly and the hotel<br />

transformed with a series of<br />

recent renovations. Turnover<br />

has more than doubled, over<br />

a million guests have been<br />

served and he has helped to<br />

plan catering for nearly two<br />

million festive diners and<br />

party revelers.<br />

He tells us more:<br />

“I joined the hotel for a fresh<br />

challenge and because I felt<br />

that the business had great<br />

potential to grow and develop.<br />

We have come a long way and<br />

recently, I have overseen a<br />

£1.5M refurbishment scheme<br />

that has transformed the hotel.<br />

The opportunity to develop<br />

the Cresta Court even further<br />

and see my team going from<br />

strength-to-strength are two of<br />

the many reasons why I still love<br />

my role. Every day brings fresh<br />

challenges, a host of different<br />

guests and a real sense of<br />

achievement.<br />

The last three years have<br />

seen a completely new-look<br />

for the hotel, ensuring that<br />

we continue to meet the<br />

expectations of travelers,<br />

diners and delegates in <strong>2017</strong><br />

and beyond. It has received<br />

exceptional feedback from<br />

guests and we are thrilled with<br />

the results.<br />

There are some real highlights<br />

of my time here, including the<br />

hotel winning the Altrincham<br />

& Sale Chamber of Commerce<br />

Business Award for Leisure<br />

and Tourism in 2014 and<br />

becoming the first hotel in south<br />

Manchester to have achieved<br />

the Welcome Host business<br />

accreditation for customer<br />

service. Both were because<br />

of my team’s hard work and<br />

dedication.<br />

I am also proud to have been<br />

able to support the wider<br />

developments in our community.<br />
