Welcome to the updated Classic Yacht Association Register of vessels. The Register
has a lengthy shelf life and is a key reference at home and on board many vessels. It does
represent a lot of work though and thanks are due to everyone who helped get this edition
ready for print, especially Nathan Herbert and Steve Horsley (both of whom managed
to re-launch their respective boats during the exercise) and to the team, Michelle Khan,
Joyce Talbot and Tony Stevenson for all the work in completing this year’s edition.
The committee encourage you to use the register as a means of introduction when on
the water, to extend the camaraderie. If you see us out there with the burgee up, it would
be rude if you didn’t row over!
While few are prepared for the responsibility or the hard work and expense of classic
boat ownership, there are many who wish to see them on the harbour and a greater
number still who would wish them to be restored and maintained for future generations
(such a pity that the “future generations” are not so helpful with the varnish brush!).
They are not just old boats, they are our maritime legacy. This publication outlines part
of the heritage for all New Zealanders.
While we will all have our own views and preferences the CYA exists to celebrate
what we have in common, yet at the same time, we need to be thankful that we each
have differing views. After all beauty is in the eye of the beholder. So be prepared to be
dazzeled by the breadth of beauty within these pages–enjoy.
