Nuanced partnership for Lexmark
Nuance has announced a
new strategic partnership
with Lexmark to provide
Nuance document
imaging solutions worldwide.
The relationship
includes rights for Lexmark
to sell and distribute Nuance
AutoStore, Equitrac
Office/Express and SafeCom.
In addition, Nuance will provide
service and support to
qualifying customers.

Legacy ECM systems are
complex and force users
to change the way they
work, and as a result, they
suffer from low user adoption
rates. This is illustrated in
a recent survey commissioned
by M-Files and conducted
by Vanson Bourne,
which found that 46 per cent
of businesses still encounter
problems when searching for
documents and information,
despite having a purposebuilt
ECM solution in place.
These difficulties, along
with alternative approaches
and solutions, are explored in
a new intelligence paper
from M-Files and Quocirca.
Julian Cook, VP of UK Business
at M-Files, said: "The
very essence of an ECM solution
is to improve and
enhance information management
within organisations.
However, the problem
with many ECM systems is
that they are not intuitive
and user friendly. As a result,
employees often choose to
bypass the ECM system in
favour of simpler ways to
save, share and manage
information. Thus, the old
inefficiencies and risks to
information security remain."
The M-Files research found
that 59 per cent of businesses
state that their employees
use personal devices or filesharing
applications to access
and share company information.
These unauthorised
practices put company data
at risk. Clive Longbottom of
Quocirca agrees: "These systems
have become widely
used in organisations, creating
new and insecure repositories
of information."
Longbottom believes that
organisations should
embrace the KISS mantra of
'Keep it simple, stupid' when
evaluating ECM platforms
and instituting information
management practices and
policies. Cook added: "By
leveraging an intuitive metadata-based
approach for
organising information by
what it is versus where it's
stored, businesses can break
free from the old folderbased
system and enable
employees to find and manage
information in an easier
and faster manner. This kind
of approach is far more user
friendly, meaning that
employees are much less likely
to turn to other applications
to share information. In
turn, IT departments can
retain control of information
and how it is being used."
