REASON 37
POLICE & CRIME
The conservative party has historically chosen to "position" itself of the
party of law and order, the party that takes our laws and our policing
seriously. I was never convinced of that but since the reign of Theresa
May as Home Secretary and then as Prime Minister that "position" has
surely long since gone.
Since the conservatives took power Theresa May has been in almost
constant battles with the very people that police us. Through austerity
they've cut funding for all of our emergency services including the most
crucial and visible form of policing that we have - police officers - reduced
by 20,000 people ON HER WATCH.
In spite of Theresa May's mismanagement our emergency services have
frequently risen to tasks that would be way beyond most of us.
Theresa May was warned very clearly by those charged with protecting us
from crime, including terrorist attacks, that the reductions in numbers
would leave us at serious risk - she brushed off those warnings.
The numbers of recorded crimes have increased substantially on her
watch and of course we have the recent terrorist attacks.
We cannot trust our police and crime policy to this government and
particularly Theresa May.
Labour will recruit 10,000 more police officers and 500 more border
guards, they will champion community policing and tackle institutional
bias against BAME people.
VOTE LABOUR BECAUSE THE CONSERVATIVE
GOVERNMENT HAVE REPEATEDLY AND
DISASTROUSLY FAILED ON POLICING AND CRIME,
LABOUR WILL WORK TO UNDO THAT DAMAGE.
