Sporting Wallpaper has just the ticket for
your avid England Rugby fan
While last term’s rugby balls
may have been bunged back in
the locker room, replaced with
cricket bats and tennis rackets
for the summer season at school,
the winter sport won’t be far from
young fans’ minds as the British and Irish Lions Tour
in New Zealand gets into full swing this month.
A treat that comes round just once every four
years, the tour has one of the strongest English
contingents chosen for many years, thanks to a
record-equalling 18-match winning streak from the
home team. In short, there’s rarely been a better
time to be an England Rugby fan.
One mum who has cleverly tapped into this
market is Frances Titmus Mather, who came up with
the idea for a striking rugby-inspired wallpaper that
young fans are sure to hanker after.
“Whilst I was doing residential interiors, I
noticed a lack of wallpaper for older children,” she
explains. “So I approached the RFU with a design
concept and sample, and they liked the idea.”
Designed from heritage Twickenham
programmes and match tickets garnered from
the World Rugby Museum collection, the
wallpaper includes rare examples from
England’s matches against nations from
around the world from as far back as 1910.
It is now a fully licensed England Rugby
product and has been stylishly featured at,
you guessed it, Twickenham Stadium.
“It makes a real impact wherever it is
used and takes putting posters of your
favourite team to the next level,” says
Titmus Mather.
And who says it’s just for kids; if you’ve
got a rugby-mad grown-up at home, they
might well have their eye on it for their
study or garden shed, too.
