Good afternoon and welcome to the Easy Buy Stadium for
today’s game against Parkgate FC. We would like to welcome
all officials, players and supporters from Parkgate and also
congratulate them on their recent good form and managing to
survive the drop down into the NCEL First Division. I’m sure
you all agree they deserved to stay up based on their form in
recent weeks.
However, despite our own good form of late it just was not
enough and we did not manage to beat the drop with results
from other teams last weekend who were not on good form
sealed our fate and unfortunately was relegated to the First
Division for next season.
Our good form in 2017 just started too late in the season to
save us, but everyone at the club is proud of the effort and
commitment from the management and players in recent
weeks. Looking back at recent results we have been a top 10
team in the league and have been improving game by game.
If we can keep this group of players next season we will be a
force to reckon with and I’m sure we will bounce right back
with promotion back to the Premier Division.
As Chairman of the club I apologise to all of our supporters of
the club for the relegation this season. We took over too late in
last year’s pre-season and we knew it would be a struggle to
stay in the Premier Division but we gave it a good go and came
very close to staying up.
However our main objective was secure the club’s future and I
believe with the back room team I have here we have achieved
this and the club is secure and can now push on for the future.
This club, and town, is fantastic and we have now built new
relations with the town and secured new sponsorship and
grown the club in other ways. Recently we have secured a new
Youth set up that will be joining the club next season playing
under our name which is fantastic news for the club and town.
We can now be proud that we have a community club to grow for the future and I would like to
thank Barton United Juniors and welcome them to our club.
The minute the final whistle is blown today the hard work will start again and this time we will be
ready as a club for next season and of course our main objective will be to return to the Premier
Division at the first time of asking. I will be meeting the management team next week to start
preparations for the new season and will hit the ground running this time. In the meantime we
also will be trying to improve the pitch and have just signed up with a local contractor Lawn N
Order. This is a five figure sum, annual deal with a professional pitch maintenance company to
ensure that the 2017-18 season gets off to the best possible start for all Barton Town Old Boys
Players, coaching staff and supporters. The new season is dedicated to raising the standards of
our club in all areas, and with the Club no-longer leasing the pitch to Westella, we as a club can
concentrate our focus solely on our own in-house developments. Lawn N Order have also been
kind enough to sponsor the club helping us to fund this operation.
As Chairman in a strange way I am proud of what this club has achieved this season and the
above is just a small portion of our hard work recently, and we are committed to carry this hard
work into the pre-season and beyond to have a club the you and the town can be proud of. As
ever, the work we have done is not free and still need help in many ways to achieve this, so
please come and join us for all our summer events in pre-season as every penny we raise goes
into the club to help the team’s growth. If you cannot attend events we have many ways to help
us; one being the 200 Club at £5 per month it’s well worth it with some great prizes every
month.
Our first Summer event is tomorrow with our Dog Show, with Sophia and Owen Taylor
working hard to make this event happen, so we hope the weather will be good to us. It will be
sure to be a good day; gates open at 10am. Please support this event as if it’s a success this will
be a yearly event here at the club. We also have our presentation night on May 12th in the AP
Robinson Sports Bar at 7pm if any supporters would like to join to us.
Then on June 24th we have the Annual Sportmans Dinner and this year we have England legend
Chris Waddle as guest speaker - don’t worry we aren’t going to ask him to sing! Full details of
how to get tickets for a great night out in the club house and elsewhere in this programme.
I am very grateful to the back room team I have here at the club; they all work hard and I would
like to thank them personally for all their support this season. We could not have done half of
what we have achieved this season with your help THANK YOU. And of course a massive thank
you to you our supporters for supporting the team though thick and thin this season; we are
sorry to have given you a bad ending but, by God, we will be determined to give you a winning
team next season to support and be proud of with our main objective of promotion.
Just one last thank you to today's sponsors Regal Fish who have
kindly sponsored the game today we hope you enjoy your afternoon
with us.
Enjoy your summer and see you next season.
the Manager`s
Note
Book
Good afternoon and welcome to our final match of the season
where we face Parkgate. From the very first days of this campaign
we knew that, from even the most cursory look at the fixture list,
today’s match would be a vital “six pointer”. As the season
started to draw to a close it became clear that this game would
define the club’s season.
Ultimately our future was decided before this match; last weekend’s results have confirmed
that we return to the NCEL First Division after six seasons in the Premier Division. A win today
would still leave us one point adrift of safety and, with hindsight, just a couple of extra goals to
convert draws to wins would have seen us with a big enough points margin to continue to play
at this level. Looking at how we've progressed recently you just can't help but think ‘What if?’
Like us, Parkgate had a very poor start to the season and have also seen a turnaround in fortune
in 2017. Especially in recent weeks where they have had a great run of results, dropping only
two points from their last six matches and, after their win at Bridlington Town last Saturday,
fully deserve their reward of Premier Division football next year.
Rainworth Miners Welfare and Harrogate Railway also found themselves dropping down the
table in recent weeks but managed to hold things together in the closing stages to deny us the
opportunity of making today the day we make our ‘Great Escape’ reality.
Despite the highs and lows we have faced, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my season at Barton Town
Old Boys. It's been a major roller-coaster ride, with a lot of learning curves along the way for
myself, Dave Botham and, of course, the players.
Looking back there's only a few things I believe I could have done different.
A lot of things have been out of my hands and I do believe we've done the best we can with the
cards we've been dealt !!
I think the lads that have stayed through this season from the start deserve a lot of credit.
James Williamson, Tom Waudby, Lee Fisher, Eddie Rogerson and Chris Fairhurst have all done
fantastically well, and each and everyone of them have improved their game 100%.
I hope this season will help them, and has been character building for them, as I believe they
can all go on to have a very good non-league career!
A lot of players have left us this season, and I'm not one to call out players after they have left
but this season has really opened my eyes to the lack of desire and passion in some players
these days. Players leave because after playing nearly every week and then dropped for a few
games they question it. Players leave because they've missed two games through work and then
when not back in the squad, again they question it. Players listening to their Dads and believing
they’re the best player out there! But then go to other clubs and sit on the bench!
6
Barton Town Old Boys v Parkgate
This leads me to mention the great attitude from the twins, James and Danny
Nichols. They come to games week in, week out along with their Dad and
Granddad - who as well have great attitudes with how they respect my decisions
on the pitch. This season has been such a learning curve for them both that I
believe they will come back next season stronger.
I can only wish that the signings we made near Christmas had only
come sooner. The arrivals of Ryan Williams, Gary Bradshaw and
Lee Shilleto have been great for us, just with their characters in
the dressing room, along with young lads Tommy Waud
and Luke Salas. It gave us some new faces and new banter
in there, which we massively needed.
We've gone on a great run recently. One that gave us
belief that we could achieve what seemed impossible
just a few months ago, but definitely a little too late.
Despite this the one thing all of these players have
shown is they don't give up anymore, they don't throw
the towel in.
This season we have lost the fight to stay playing Premier
Division football, but we are a team. We have gone down
together and next season we regroup and come back
fighting together.
I wish we had been able to take the chance of survival to the
last game of the season, so as to give the fans something to
look forward to and to cheer the team on this afternoon. Of
course, it goes without saying we’ll be looking for a win today to
go out on a high note.
Finally I want to thank the fans that come and watch us, and encourage
us, in particular those who have taken the time and expense of
travelling to away matches; your support has been greatly appreciated
by all.
I'm guessing it's not been the best Barton Town Old Boys team and
it's probably not been the best football you've watched, but I hope
we've done you all proud and I hope you all know we've given
100% to stay in this Division.
Next season a new challenge awaits us.
One that I know we can face with spirit,
passion and optimism!
Enjoy the game!
Finished fourth in the Lincolnshire league and won
the County Senior 'B' Cup in inaugural season under
manager Peter Mitchell.
Won Lincolnshire League and Challenge Cup
'Double'.
Won Lincolnshire League Challenge Cup and County
Senior 'B' Cup
On the pitch, that intent was certainly realised as the
title of Supreme Division Champions 2005/06 was
added to the Club's list of honours.
Switched to Humber Premier League finishing third
in the League's first season.
Brought in Leigh Palin to work alongside Mitchell as
Club joined Central Midlands League, finishing runners-up
in the Premier Division and gaining automatic
promotion to Supreme Division.
Palin left the Club in October 2002 to be replaced,
initially by Alex Irvine before Neil Buckley took the
reins. Finished first season in Supreme Division in
13th place.
Seventh place finish in Supreme Division
Further improvement saw a fourth place finish
Supreme Division runners-up at the end of the
2006/07 season, the Club was in the fortunate position
of being considered once more for promotion
to the Northern Counties East League and this time
the facilities were not found wanting.
Ninth place in Division One was the outcome of the
Club's first foray in the NCEL, a comfortable finish,
albeit a little disappointing bearing in mind the team
had been promotion contenders until around about
the turn of the year, before loss of form, injuries and
suspensions took their toll. A great run in the League
Cup, which saw a number of Premier Division sides
beaten at Marsh Lane en-route to the semi-final provided
some consolation for missing out.
After five successful seasons at the helm, late July
2008 saw the shock resignation of Neil Buckley, due
BartonTownOldBoys.co.uk 9
to increased work commitments. Despite that blow,
the Club responded promptly, promoting coach
Carl Stead to the hot-seat to work alongside existing
Assistant Manager, Ian Durnian and newly-appointed
player/coach, Craig Burdick to send out the message
that it was very much ‘business as usual’.
The story of the 2008/09 season was another one of
steady, if unspectacular, improvement. A fifth place
finish was the outcome, but, in a worrying case of
history repeating itself, not before another dreadful
dip in form in the new year, which saw the team
slump form genuine promotion contenders to alsoruns,
some eleven points adrift of a guaranteed promotion
slot. The disappointment of missing out was
compounded by the loss of a number of key senior
players who had been instrumental, with others, in
the Club’s success over the previous four seasons.
The lure of football at a higher level, something that
the Club has signally failed to provide, proved to be
too strong.
The 2009/10 season proved to be another season of
two halves. In contrast to the previous two seasons,
it began poorly, one or two bright spots notwithstanding,
and plagued by a terrible run of injuries,
showed little sign of improvement as the season
wore on.
With the team marooned in mid-table in late November
2009 and finding it increasingly difficult to
balance family and work commitments with football,
Carl Stead resigned. Ian Durnian assumed the mantle
of caretaker Manager until a new management
team of Dave Anderson and Mally Parker was appointed
in early January 2010.
And so 2010 saw the start of a new chapter in the
history of the Club. The new faces had the desired
effect. Players, both old and new, responded superbly
to the promptings and demands of the new
management duo, finishing the second half of the
season in fine style. A sixth place finish, largely on
the back of an unbeaten away run stretching back to
January, bears testimony to the great strides forward
made under the new regime.
In their first full season at the helm, and in a huge
testament to the management team and all the players
involved, Anderson and Parker guided the side
to promotion to the Premier Division, the highest
level in the history of the Club and achieved a full
two seasons ahead of schedule. Not without a few
nervous moments along the way, promotion was
finally secured on the last day of a memorable season.
After a fraught start, the first season in the top flight
saw the Club finish a credible 11th, helped in no
small way by a seven match winning streak, part of a
longer unbeaten run in all competitions during November
and December. The team also made it
through to two cup finals, the County Senior Trophy
and the President's Cup, and although missing out,
narrowly, in both, they too marked a significant step
forward.
Season 2013/13 saw the Club achieve its main aim,
that of consolidating and improving on the previous
season's mid-table finish. Hovering amongst the top
six, and on merit, for much if the campaign, a disappointing
late run of seven league games without a
win, although countered by an equally fine run-in of
seven games unbeaten, saw the Club finish in eighth
place, still a very encouraging achievement.
With further ground improvements being undertaken
in the close season, 2013/14 saw the first team
looking for further consolidation by establishing itself
as a top six side. And, to the immense credit of players
and management alike, the team exceeded all
expectations to claim the runners-up spot, behind
worthy winners, Brighouse Town. An increasingly
youthful and very closely-knit squad created, in the
process, a Club record 23 game unbeaten League
run stretching over a full five months during which,
10
Barton Town Old Boys v Parkgate
and for the first time ever in the Club's relatively
short history, the team hit top spot, mid-run, in late
December, staying there over the Christmas and
New Year turn before eventually being pegged back.
Season 2014/15 started with the Club under no illusions.
To have any realistic chance of improving on
the previous season's marvellous second place finish,
it was vitally important a good, solid start was made.
It was a start that failed, dismally, to materialise as
the first four League games saw four defeats and the
Club bottom of the table come mid-September.
Hardly the start everyone was looking and hoping
for. A superb midweek win at eventual champions,
Shaw Lane Aquaforce changed all that, belatedly
kick-starting the season and acting as the catalyst for
another of the team's signature runs which saw just
two points dropped in a stretch of nine League
games unbeaten, hoisting them into the top eight, a
position from which they rarely slipped, in the process.
The eventual fifth place finish was, in its way, on
a par with 2013/14's second place, given the awful
start made and the fiercely competitive nature of the
NCEL's Premier Division, arguably as tough a (Football
Pyramid) Step Five League as any in the country.
2015/16 proved to be, with the benefit of hindsight,
something of a watershed. Although a top six league
finish, at the very best, looked clearly achievable up
until Christmas, the second half of the season was
distinctly underwhelming, not helped at all by the
effects of a very wet winter on the fixture schedule
and the loss of a number of key players to long-term
injuries. A 10th place finish was the upshot and that
along with a number of cup disappointments left the
season as one of those to forget.
and saw the March Lane ground renamed The Easy
Buy Stadium. At the Club's AGM, Mark was also
elected Chairman to lead a long-needed new and
ambitious Committee with the over-riding intention
of running the Club as a successful business.
One of Mark's first tasks was to accept the resignations
of Dave Anderson and Mally Parker after six
and a half years at the helm, during which time promotion
to, and consolidation in the NCEL Premier
Division was attained, no small achievement. Their
departure, along with that of Physio, Vinnie Orszewski,
and last but by no means least, one of the major
driving forces and architects behind everything
achieved by the Club, on and off the field for over
20 years, Ian Durnian, meant it was very much a
case of the changing of the guard at March Lane.
The early July timing of Anderson and Parker's
departure, along with the mass exodus of players
previously loyal to the Club meant that any incoming
Manager would have their work cut out to get a
competitive squad together before the 2016/17
season started just four short weeks later. That task
fell to the much-respected Paul Foot, former captain
of local high-flyers and serial overachievers, North
Ferriby United, working alongside coach, Dave
Botham. All the early signs are, given a few months'
patience, the new duo will get it right.
And if the Club does get it right with new
management teams in place both on and
off the field, then one thing is very certain.
And that is the future of Barton Town Old
Boys Football Club remains very bright
indeed!
Off the field, and after 10 years' fantastic and muchappreciated
support, Paul Vickers ended his sponsorship
of The Euronics Ground. The search was on
for a new sponsor and benefactor. Into the breach
stepped existing sponsor, Mark Gregory whose
company took on the mantle of ground sponsorship
Lee joined the club on
trial in Summer 2015
after starring for Reckitts
in the Humber Premier
League last season. A
versatile full back who
can cover both sides, as
well as playing in the
midfield, he has become
a key member of the
squad.
The right footed Midfielder
joined Barton
from Bridlington Town at
the start of the 2016/17
season, and his hard
working ethic has
brought a great bit of energy
to the Swans midfield.
Tom hopes to go as
far as he can get in football
and hasn't won any
silverware to date.
James has hit the ground
running and has
impressed over the start
of the season giving other
players and management
a lot to think about. With
a goal to his name already
this season, he's building
momentum every game.
Terrace Talk
By Darren Stockdale
Here we are again, the final game of the season,
one that has been pretty challenging for both the
team and the fans. It has been difficult at times
writing this article, trying not to be overly critical
whilst being honest at the same time. Back in
January when I wrote my article for our match
against Cleethorpes Town Barton were languishing
at the bottom of the league with only two league
wins to their name and looked all but relegated.
Unfortunately that happened last weekend without
us having to kick a ball, but the fact that it went
down to the penultimate league game shows how
the team has improved. I know some people would
have rather we stayed up, but personally I welcome
the chance to go see the team play our nearneighbours
Brigg and Winterton again and at the
same time hopefully fighting for position at the
right end of the table. I have said it before and I will
say it again, I would rather watch a team winning in
a lower league than losing in a higher one.
Our last home match, against Worksop Town, was a
cracking game. The Tigers brought plenty of
support with them, and they were certainly vocal. It
was a cold, dry and windy day, and the first half
started in a very even fashion. Both sides had good
chances and, thanks to the wind, those of us sat in
the terraces saw almost as much of the ball as the
players. Around the half hour mark Barton were
awarded a penalty which was subsequently saved
by the Worksop keeper. The rest of the first half
saw even play to the break. During the break a few
of us popped our heads through the fence to look at
the cricket. In the fifteen minutes or so we were
there nothing happened so we returned only to find
the Worksop fans had taken over our bit of the
terraces. As Barton were kicking towards the
stands in the second half I decided to stand in there
for a change. 12 minutes into the second half and I
was pleased I did, when a thunderous throw in from
Louis Bruce found Lee Shilletto who duly scored the
first goal for Barton. This quietened the Worksop
fans for a while and just as they were finding their
voice again Gary Bradshaw popped up to score a
second for Barton from a corner. At this point the
Worksop fans decided they were going to win 3-2,
but the actual team didn’t really look like they
would. Barton had more of the play, and Worksop
managed to shoot themselves in the foot when
their number 11 was sent off late on. The game
ended 2-0 to Barton, and in all honesty it was a
fairly comfortable result for Barton.
For my final random fact of the season I have to
mention the Franklin, Tennessee based pop-punk
band Paramore (as we will not be playing a certain
team with a similar sounding last name in the
league next season). They announced last week
that they are bringing a new album out on the 12th
May. Thankfully for the current government they
announced this the day after their slightly less
interesting announcement of a general election in
June. I know which one I am looking forward to the
most.
Today we play Parkgate. Last season 80 supporters
saw a home victory for the Swans against Parkgate
by three goals to nil, our goals coming from a brace
for Scott Phillips and one from Brad Ricketts. In the
away fixture at the Roundwood Sports Complex,
Barton again managed to claim victory with a much
closer three goals to two. Our goals on the day
came from Gareth Owen, Alex Sherwood and an
own goal. This season however, our away game
was not such a close affair, with Barton being
thumped seven nil in front of 85 fans. Today’s
match may not mean much for our league
positions, but it would be nice to finish the season
off with a win.
Up the Swans.
Stewart Evans and his assistant Vinnie Brady,
after a run of bad results Stewart resigned
leaving assistant Vinnie Brady holding the
reins.
The Steelmen finish in sixth position just
missing out on a promotion place and lost 2-1
in the final of the Sheffield & Hallamshire
Senior Cup to an injury time goal.
2006/2007
Parkgate won the Wilkinson Sword Trophy and
the Division One Championship this promoted
them to the Premier Division.
The great surprise was the resignation of Team
manager Vinnie Brady after a successful
season.
2007/2008
Parkgate appointed assistant manager Russell
Eagle to the position of team manager with
Darren Grady becoming assistant manager.
Semi-finalists in the League Cup and County FA
Senior Cup and finish 8th in the League
however both Russell Eagle and Darren Grady
resigned at the end of the season to
concentrate on their business commitments.
2008/09
Sean Hutchinson appointed as manager with
Wilf Race as assistant manager however at the
end of the season Wilf Race left to be
appointed manager of Hallam FC. Mark Smith
became assistant manager but due to a string
of poor results and an 8-3 defeat at Hall Road
Rangers FC in October 2009 Sean Hutchinson
tendered his resignation.
2009/10
Russell Eagle appointed Team Manager for his
second stint at the Club and Darren
Bonnington as Assistant Manager but in June
2010 Russell Eagle resigned as Manager at
Parkgate FC to take over as Manager of newly
promoted Division One side Handsworth FC.
2010/11
The Steelmen then appoint Douglas Shelley
from AFC Celtic, with Wilf Race as his Assistant
for Season 2010/2011. The season proved to
be the most successful in the club’s history
due to the new look squad and the Steelmen
finished second in the NCEL Premier and
reached the final of the Sheffield &
Hallamshire Senior Cup Final at Hillsborough.
Parkgate enjoyed another successful campaign
with a solid top half finish and a good run in
the FA Vase. The Steelmen looked to improve
on the last season with Doug bringing in
several exciting new players and appointing
former Macclesfield Town manager Gary
Simpson as his assistant.
2012/13
October 2012 Doug Shelley resigns from his
role at Parkgate being replaced by Russ Eagle
for his third spell at the club.
2013/16
Steve Adams appointed, 20th position in the
league in 2013/4, moved up to 15th position in
2015/2016. Following a disappointing start to
the 2016 season, Steve Adams and Gary
Middleton both resigned.
2016/17
The club appoints Graham Nicholas as
manager and Ross Shelton as assistant
manager to go forward with the assistance of
and Shannon Brooks, sports therapist.
Barton Town Old Boys v Parkgate
The Road to
Wembley
As this is that last programme of the 2016-2017 season it seems appropriate to bring our FA Cup run story
up to date. The competition has now reached the Final due to be played on 27th May. So far we have seen
how Barton Town Old Boys would have progressed through to the last eight, having achieved this milestone
after, in the guise of Lincoln City, dispatching Premiership side Burnley at Turf Moor to set up a Quarter
Final tie at the Emirates Stadium home, of course, to Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.
So off on another trip south to London on Saturday 11th March to take on one of the most consistent teams
in the competition having lifted the FA Cup five times since the turn of the century.
In the same period they have also finished in the top four every year, and subsequently also qualified for the
UEFA Champions League every year. Clearly no pushovers despite recent well publicised fan unrest as this
season it looks likely that they’ll have this unbroken run come to an end.
Although ultimately the result was not unexpected with Arsenal wining 5-0 it didn’t appear that Lincoln City
were overawed by their hosts, only conceding the first goal just before the half time whistle. Soon after the
restart Giroud scored Arsenal’s second and an own goal shortly after sealed Lincoln City’s fate after a run
that captured the imagination of the country.
So now onto the semi-final to be played against Premiership side Manchester City who have won the FA Cup
five times, most recently in the 2010-2011 season, and were runners-up to Wigan Athletic in the 2012-2013
Final played on 11th May. That same year Wigan were relegated and became the first team to be relegated
and win the FA Cup in the same season
The semi-finals have been played at Wembley since the new stadium was completed in 2007 with the
official opening match being the 2007 FA Cup Final on Saturday 19th May although matches had been
hosted at the stadium since it was handed over to the FA on 9th March.
The 2016-2017 semi-finals were played on Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd April so perfect to fit into the
Barton Town Old Boys schedule as, of course, we didn’t have a match that weekend.
Anyway Manchester City took the lead in the second half with a Sergio Aguero goal but were pegged back
to 1-1 shortly after when Nacho Monreal scored the equaliser. So another 30 minutes play was required.
Just over ten minutes into the first half of this and Alexis Sanchez scored Arsenal’s second and Pep
Guardiola’s squad were unable to respond.
So onto the Final at the end of May where the winner of “our” match takes on Premiership table topping
Chelsea.
And that’s it for this year! The chart and map on the facing page shows the clubs that Barton Town Old Boys
would have had to have beaten this season to get their hands on the FA Cup at the completion of the 136th
playing of the world’s oldest football cup competition.
AS champagne continues to be sprayed and league
trophies are lifted high above heads, the
countdown continues to the biggest day in the
Non-League calendar – Finals Day.
This year, as last, the FA Trophy and FA Vase
showpiece matches will take place on the same day
under the Wembley arch in a real celebration of the
beautiful game below the Football League.
Lincoln City, who recently wrapped up the National
League and with it promotion to the EFL, agonisingly
missed out on reaching Wembley, beaten over two
legs by York City. The Minstermen will face
Macclesfield Town after they disposed of Tranmere
Rovers, who challenged the Imps in the top-tier for
so long.
In the Vase, Cleethorpes Town, who were
established as Lincolnshire Soccer School in 1998
and entered the Lincolnshire League just 14 years
ago, will clash with South Shields in the Owls’ first
ever Vase final. It’s also the Mariners’ first ever Vase
final with that and the Trophy clash both taking
place on May 21.
Last year, 46,781 watched Morpeth Town and FC
Halifax Town upset the odds to lift the Vase and
Trophy respectively. Morpeth came from a goal
down inside two minutes to beat Hereford, with
over 20,000 Bulls fans left devastated at the home
of football.
Whether they’ll be
winners under the arch
is yet to be seen, though
they face a tough outfit in South
Shields, who racked up a mammoth 108 points in
winning the Northern League, ahead of last year’s
Vase winners Morpeth.
Out of the 42 matches played, Graham Fenton’s
side won 34 of them, losing just twice. And
remember, Fenton has Vase pedigree having led
North Shields to success in the 2015 FA Vase,
beating Glossop North End 2–1 in the final.
York will be underdogs in the Trophy final, having
struggled back in the Non-League ranks whereas
Macc have had a steady season in the top-tier.
North Ferriby showed that the Trophy can be won
from Step 2 in 2015 though, so don’t write off City
just yet.
There’s still chance to buy your tickets, and they’re
reasonably priced too, priced at £25 for adults, £10
for concessions and £1 for children whilst there is
also a special group rate which reduces prices to
£12.50 for adults and £5 for concessions.
Make sure you get yours and make it a day to
remember for the whole of Non-League
Joshua Peck
Just a couple of hours after Chris Swailes,
Wembley’s oldest goalscorer, lifted the trophy, FC
Halifax Town were doing the same, having seen off
Grimsby Town. It really was a great day of football,
even for the neutral.
Cleethorpes have already received a huge boost
ahead of the upcoming final, named joint winners of
the 2017 Buildbase Club Renovation Programme.
The Lincolnshire-based club will share the £100,000
product bursary with west London outfit Hanwell
Town following a Dragons Den-style pitching event
for six finalists held at Wembley.
