Polyneuropathy is a serious and painful secondary disease mostly caused 

by diabetes. 85% of diabetes patients develope polyneuropathy within the 

first 20 years. Salutaris offers the affected patient very good pain relief, an 

improvement in wound healing and increased blood circulation. Clinical 

tests and studies confirm that electro-stimulation with Salutaris is an 

effective therapeutic option for the treatment of diabetic polyneuropathy. 

MULTIPLE TREATMENT OPTIONS 

Salutaris can be used with self-adhesive electrodes, garment electrodes 

(socks and gloves) or in a water bath with silicon electrodes. The so called 

water bath electro-stimulation is a good alternative to self-adhesive 

electrodes if the skin of the patient is not damaged. Patients place a 

silicone electrode and one foot each in a plastic bucket filled with tap 

water. The water serves as an enlarged electrode all around the feet. 

Careful skin care should be observed due to the drying out effect of water.

STIMEX Ionto electrode 

The STIMEX Ionto electrode is perfectly applicable in Pain Therapy 

and combines the treatment of iontophoresis and TENS. They have an 

integrated pulp (cellulose) reservoir similar to a gauze swab for the 

application of liquids such as in ampoules. The pulp reservoir tinctured 

with pharmaceuticals is included into an electric circuit. The relation of 

pulp to electrode is 1 : 7, so that a sufficient electrode area for the TENS is

Although migraine is incurable according to the present state of medical 

progress, with the assistance of biofeedback it is nevertheless possible to 

both extend the intervals between the attacks and reduce their severity. 

Following successful therapy patients are enabled to consciously influence 

the course of painful attacks without having recourse to medication. 

Migraine and headache societies recommend the application of 

biofeedback therapy. 

HOW DOES BIOFEEDBACK WORK ? 

Biofeedback means that certain (also involuntary) body functions are 

represented in a visual or acoustic form. The patient is able to recognize 

these defined body functions and learns how they may be actively 

controlled. 

In addition to the relaxation procedures for the purpose of extending the 

intervals between attacks the mastering of vasoconstriction (the conscious 

narrowing of the surface of the cerebral vessels) is decisive regarding the 

treatment of migraine. Patients who have acquired the ability to actively 

influence the process of vasoconstriction attain the same result as is 

effected by the use of medication by means of triptan. 

VasoTrain provides the patient with direct feedback with regard to his or 

her relative vessel width of the arteria temporalis. 

Together with the therapist he or she learns how this vessel (and therefore 

also the cerebral vessels) can be consciously narrowed. The VasoTrain is 

nevertheless only a transient aid to vasoconstriction training up to the point 

that the patient has gained the necessary experience.

HOW DOES THE VASOTRAIN WORK ? 

The patient’s blood volume pulse is measured by infrared scanning of the 

temporal artery by means of a plethysmograph. The values for the pulse 

rate and for the pulse volume amplitude are processed and displayed by 

the VasoTrain. 

The pulse volume amplitude describes relatively how much blood flows 

through the artery per unit of time. In this way a correlated statement is 

made regarding the respective artery width. The representation of the 

artery width – for example as a circular ring – is ideal for vasoconstriction 

training. In addition there is the option to signal the value acoustically via 

changes in the sound level. 

VASOTRAIN IN THE PRACTICE 

The VasoTrain is distinguished by its easy to use format. The simple 

feedback is quickly understood and straightforward in its execution. 

We would propose implementation of one of the two options outlined 

below: 

1. The VasoTrain is made available in the practice and the therapist 

instructs the patient with regard to its use. After a successful first session 

the patient has the option to purchase the instrument for continued use 

at home. 

2. Several VasoTrain units are available in the practice and these are leased 

out to the patient as required. 

In either case patient supervision on the part of the therapist is necessary 

to ensure that the patient has mastered the vasoconstriction procedure and 

to ensure therefore that high levels of success are attained.

This program is an EMG relaxation training with adaptive threshold. If the

Balance 

The balance program is a symmetrical training working with two bar

The Timelas vital is a high-energy soft laser with 16 CW laser diodes which 

generates a total power output of up to 640 mW (1 diode has a power of

PIERENSTEP – Intelligent crutch system 

PARTIAL WEIGHT BEARING IN ORTHOPEDICS 

In accident surgery or orthopedics, practitioners at conservative and 

operative therapy often face the fact that the patient is not allowed or 

cannot put his/her complete weight onto the affected lower extremity. 

Studies have demonstrated that prescribed partial load levels are 

significantly exceeded by most patients who use conventional training 

methods. The PIERENSTEP feedback system is integrated in conventional 

crutches. PIERENSTEP can be deployed in a mobile manner and is 

applicable for both gait training and feedback system. 

NEW FEEDBACK SYSTEM FOR PARTIAL WEIGHT BEARING 

AND GAIT TRAINING 

PIERENSTEP forearm crutches are new rehabilitation instruments to 

measure partial weight bearing. PIERENSTEP is measuring the applied 

force on the crutches and is calculating the partial weight applied on the 

injured limb. The crutches give an acoustic and vibration signal as soon 

as the patient is exceeding the set load on his limb. The software is only 

required for setting up the crutches with the patient’s weight and the 

partial load. This way the patient can use the crutches at hospital or at 

home by following the feedback signal to apply the correct partial load. An 

under load feedback is also available as well as a memory in the crutches 

which guarantees to the therapist the control over the patient’s progress.

the measurement is carried out by two measuring probes, an internal and

Moxa 

Moxa treatment is the specific use of heat for stimulating acupuncture 

points. This heat is generated by burning a dried plant called Artemisia 

sinensis or Artemisia vulgaris, well known under the name mugwort. Moxa 

treatment is preferable to needle technique in particular where energy 

deficiency is involved; experienced acupuncturists often use moxa between 

the acupuncture sessions. 

The traditional moxa area is the cold north of China and the mountainous 

regions of Japan. Recently it has been planted in France and Spain. Moxa 

rolls from France are made from controlled cultivation and are wrapped in 

exceptionally pure paper.
