Visitors to Winnetka’s downtown
shopping district will now
enjoy a collection of outdoor
public sculptures courtesy of
Hoffmann Commercial Real
statues has been set in locations
on Lincoln Avenue and Chestnut
Street as part of a beautification
plan surrounding properties
owned by Hoffmann Commercial
“Sculpture walks enhance
business areas in a number of
ways,” said Greg Hoffmann,
CEO of Hoffmann Commercial
Real Estate. “They add
interest and build community
relationships as people contemplate
and talk about the art.
We are excited to bring these
works to Winnetka and hope
they will become landmarks
that shoppers recognize and
enjoy.”
Artists represented in the
sculpture walk include Ruth
Bloch and Jim Rennert.
Streetfest to battle hunger on North Shore
Bojana Galic, Editorial Intern
Food insecurity is not a problem
that many people associate
with the North Shore, but
the Northfield Township Food
Pantry hopes to change that
with Pantry Palooza on Friday,
June 24.
The event will take place from
6 p.m.-10 p.m. at the downtown
Glenview Metra parking lot. Admission
for the event will cost
$15 and the night will feature
food and drinks from local vendors
and live music by 97 Nine,
Rock House favorite Van Houten
and the Evanston School of Rock
House Band.
“We’re hoping to get a nice attendance,”
said Gayle Curcio, a
Northfield Township Food Pantry
volunteer. “It would be nice
to see a couple hundred people
there to come out and support
the pantry and support the families
that use the food pantry. It’s
just a night to have fun, listen
to some good music, have some
great local food and support the
pantry.”
The food pantry hopes to raise
$20,000 by the end of the night,
a slight increase from its last annual
fundraiser. The funds earned
will go toward monthly food distribution
programs and pantry
operations.
Curcio expects that the street
festival will bring attention to an
overlooked issue in local communities.
Event coordinators
hope to promote their belief that
hunger is unacceptable in our
community.
“I think the more that people
find out we have a food pantry
and the community that it serves,
it just helps to raise awareness,”
Curcio said. “It’s a problem that
can affect everybody and no one
is immune from being food insecure.
Any time we can get our
name out and people hear about
the Northfield Township Food
Pantry and what they do, that just
helps further our mission.”
