Province of Limburg’s government building Maastricht
In a prominent location on the river Maas the government building of the Dutch province of
Limburg, designed by the architect B.G.J.J. Snelder, was inaugurated in 1986. The characteristic
pitched roofs incline in various directions and are reminiscent of traditional Dutch architecture.
Based on 3-dimensional visual renderings, a uniform lighting scheme was chosen which
encompasses the 23 buildings of the ensemble. Accent lighting of the towers emphasizes the
rhythm of the architecture. The peripheral buildings are illuminated with warm light colour that
embraces the building complex. The lighting design creates a unique night image visible from
the river bank and street perspective. For the façade lighting ground-recessed luminaires,
Superlight Compact floodlights and Nightvision luminaires with wall washer optics are used.
