On May 25, 2017, Grand Senior Steward Quince
Mitchell was honored in his home lodge, Hidalgo No.
1036 in Edinburg, TX. Over 44 masons were in
attendance including several masons from Mexico and
Panama.
Grand Master Noe Barrera of Tamaulipas, Mexico, as
well as two Past Grand Masters from Tamaulipas, were
also in attendance.
Quince Mitchell was raised a Master Mason there by his
father, PM Hollis Mitchell on November 22, 1956, sixty
years ago.
It was a great evening for Masonry and a well-deserved
honor for our Grand Senior Steward.

THE POTENTATE'S WORD
Vincent Muscarello - Potentate 2017
Here we are in the 3rd Quarter. Much has been
done in the last six months. Some things can be
seen; many are operational changes that are
making Al Amin Shrine function much more
smoothly. Although the Temple is dark during the
summer months, that doesn’t mean there isn’t a
lot going on. The Divan has been meeting
frequently tackling multiple issues.
All the RV pad sites have been upgraded with
new boxes. Thanks to Ken and Kason Anderson
for doing these installs. The removal of all the
conex boxes and trash has really cleaned up the
back area. A big thank you goes to Walter
Briones and Marcelo Cantu.
If you have been to the office recently you would
have noticed the major cleanup of the lobby area.
First impressions are very important for our
members and our paying guests. Thanks to
Marie Privott, the elevator was tiled with tile
provided by Jimmie and Carol Goodman. We are
hoping in the very near future to tile the entire
lobby with ceramic tile. Two video monitors were
provided by Roy Cantu, to stream past and future
happenings, and promote the rental of our
various venues. We also have two retirees who
have volunteered to mow the lawn as needed,
Noble Chuck Checklick and soon to be Noble
Dorman Pickering. There is much more
occurring, and we wish to thank each and every
one of you for your contributions.
We have adopted a Marketing Plan and
hired a Marketing Director, Brandee
Lowman, who has also been hired as the
new Office Administrator. We have joined
the Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce,
and are connected to numerous online sites
in an effort to promote the Shrine and our
business side. Barbara Schroeter, our
Webmaster and Salaam Editor, has made
great strides in pushing Al Amin Shrine into
the internet world.
Our Rummage Showroom has closed, but
has moved online and is doing well. In
addition to the continuous online sale, we
are also planning to have regular rummage
sales of large and small items, but not
clothing. Check the Al Amin Website and
Facebook for upcoming dates and time.
Our Gun Shows are growing. We can thank
our HP&P, Mike King for his leadership in
this effort along with many others. We are
looking to develop fun activities that will
bring our Nobility and families along with

Motorcycle club
donates
to Shriners Hospital
The Boozefighter Motorcycle Club
was formed in 1946 by Veterans
returning home from WWlI. They had
missed the camaraderie and
brotherhood of life in the military,
and found it again with their brothers on two wheels. They have continued to be an active
club for over 70 years, with members spread worldwide. Each year, Boozefighter Chapter
146, from Liberty County, Texas - also made up of Veterans, Masons and big hearted guys
that love to do things to support children in need - choose a worthy charity that can help
those children. This year they have picked the Shriners Hospital for Children at Galveston to
receive their annual donation. "We are proud to be able to participate in the Shrine's effort to
bring 'Love to the Rescue," said Chapter Vice President Nolan Dishongh, "and because of
our small token of generosity, we hope that our donation of $1,000.00 will be able to help
many children reach their full potential and lead more fulfilling lives. We are proud to be able
to help."

MEMBERSHIP REPORT
Our membership is doing better than last year;
we have 737 members but still have 62 Nobles
who have not paid their dues. We need for
these Nobles to submit their payments. There
are numerous ways to pay, and we can set up
installment plans with automatic withdrawal
from your bank if you wish. We submitted our
final per capita and hospital assessment
payment to Imperial; it was in excess of
$10,000. We must pay for every Noble on our
rolls whether they pay their dues or not. If any
of these 60+ Nobles goes NPD and is
suspended, we are out their $35 paid to
Imperial. We continue to grow new members;
we have created 10 new Nobles, but have lost
12 to the black camel. With a couple of
restorations, we are ahead by 2. This is where
our next big push will be, in restorations. Any
Noble who was suspended for NPD in the last
3-5 years will be getting a call and a letter. We
need your help with this and creations. If you
would like to assist, please call the office.

CIRCUS 2018
Save the Date: March 9 - 11
Your Circus Committee has already been busy meeting with
the circus owner and American Bank Center so that we can
bring you the best circus ever!! We will need the help of all
Nobles and ladies to make this endeavor a success.
There will be a few changes for next year. We will no longer
have a circus book. Though many of you have worked hard to
get ads for the booklet, the rising cost of printing prohibits the
project. We will instead have a coloring book for sale. This
book will be provided by the circus owner and all sales will be
a profit for us.

Capital Funding Project
Underway!
The Al Amin Shrine needs a
shine now and then to spruce up
the place! The Temple has
embarked on a capital funding
project which has gotten off to a
good start, but much more work
is still left to complete.
The goal is to add new flooring to
the lobby as well as the upstairs
lobby. A new set of doors for the
entrance would make a grand
statement as well. The idea is to
be comparable to other venues
and increase rental revenue.
A special thank you goes out to
Marcelo & Roy Cantu for their
countless hours painting the lobby
and making it look fresh. An
extended and sincerest thanks
goes out to Roy for also donating
screens in the lobby for slide shows
displaying Shriner activities. A
tremendous amount of gratitude to
Jim & Carol Goodman who donated
tile for the elevator, and to Marie
Privott who installed it. The
Sheriff's Department has been
instrumental in assisting the Shrine
clean up the grounds around the
Temple and the place looks great!

The Imperial Session of Shriners
International and Shriners Hospitals
for Children will be held in Daytona
Beach, FL in 2017 and then again
"Back at the Beach" in 2018. The
dates for 2017 will be July 9 thru 13.

Waco, Texas
Jutta and Paul Kurz strolled in with
tons of tabs they saved. This isn't the
first time either! They have brought
tabs in three different times. They
have a gift of giving and their hearts
are full of love for the children
Shriner's Hospitals care for. As it turns
out, Mr. Kurz is not even a Shriner.
The couple drive all the way from
Rockport to deliver these tabs. The
tabs might as well be gold because
families can benefit from them and
receive care in exchange.

CEREMONIAL
A Spring Ceremonial was held at the
temple on April 29. As shown in the
photos, an Arch is built while the story
of Freemasonry and its appendant
bodies is told. The production
concludes with the appearance of a
child representing our patients being
treated at Shriners Hospitals for
Children.

Let's Grow Something Together!

Casino Night comes to the
Shrine!
Mark your calendar, this is one event
you will NOT want to miss. The Al Amin
Shriners will host a Casino Night
Fundraiser on October 5, 2017. The
evening will kick off with a ribbon cutting
ceremony at 4:00 pm with the United
Corpus Christi Chamber of Commerce.
Following this the doors will swing open
for a fabulous night of games and
entertainment. There will be amazing
door prizes, top notch silent auction
items as well as a scrumptious meal
prepared by The Chef Unit.
Our mission is to host a grand event that
is fun for all our members to get involved
as well as extending the invitation to
corporations to raise much needed funds
for operations of the Shrine.
All Shriners are encouraged to attend
and bring all your friends out for this
annual event. There will be child care
services so bring the family.

they are unique and filled with extended
recognition and creative ways of
promoting your company or family…
information coming soon!
I am a firm believer in we are what we eat..
I spent every summer with my grandpa at Lake
Mathis. He had a strong work ethic, best soil in
Texas, as well as being a master gardener. I
would like to begin a Garden Club at the
Shrine. First we will need people who have
interest in supporting this endeavor. It won't be
easy, but it will be rewarding.
Let's start by forming a group, perhaps a
gathering of minds to plan where, when, how
and then create a magnificent area to boast
about. Fresh items for all who work, and the
extras can be provided in a produce stand. On
a larger scale this could be a grand fundraiser.
It could also be very therapeutic to those who
love to put their hands in the dirt. I think
seasonal items as well as some beautiful
flowers would make the Shrine look lovely. This
takes a tremendous amount of effort and
equipment, and I am willing to find local
businesses to help us be fruitful by donating
plants and other items.
