Hidden Ways to Help Your Heart
Heart disease is America’s No. 1 Killer; but a healthy heart is within everyone’s reach. You know
some of the rules: Eat less fat; eat more fruits and vegetables; and keep blood pressure and blood
cholesterol levels in check. But there are more ways to boost heart health:
♥ DON’T SKIP BREAKFAST. Most heart attacks occur between 7 a.m. and noon. Possibly,
because the cells that help blood to clot, called platelets, are stickiest then. Eating breakfast appears
to make platelets less sticky, therefore less likely to clump together and block a vital artery.
♥ LIGHTEN UP. People who overreact to stressful situations are more likely to have heart
trouble. In one study, people whose blood pressure and heart rate jumped highest during stress tests
were also the ones most likely to have reduced blood flow to the heart.
♥ MEET THE “A’s.” You may have heard about the antioxidants –- vitamins A, C and E, and betacarotene
– they appear to slow plaque formation in the arteries.
♥ KICK TOBACCO IF YOU ARE USING IT. Smoking affects more than your lungs. Fact is,
within a few years of quitting, you’ll cut your risk of heart attack by at least half, similar to those who
never smoked.
♥ GET OFF THE COUCH. Sedentary living – not high cholesterol, is one of the greatest risk
factors in heart attack deaths. Tip: Just a half hour of moderate physical activity most days of the
week can deliver fitness benefits similar to traditional exercise routines. So walk briskly. Take the
stairs. Play actively with kids. Live longer!
“Sudoku Puzzle”
The Sudoku grid has three main elements: 9 columns, 9 rows and 9 blocks.
Using the numbers 1 through 9, the 81 squares in the Sudoku grid must be filled so that
every column, row and block contains the numbers 1 through 9. No number can be
repeated within any column, row or block.
Certain numbers are given, and the puzzler must then fill in the remainder in order to
solve the puzzle.
NOTE: use a pencil.
Are you a creature of habit?
There is nothing wrong with that as long as your habits are good ones! Motivation for self-improvement comes with a healthy self-respect.
Affecting a lasting change happens one step at a time.
5 Common Headache Triggers
Headache sufferers spend more than $4 billion a year on over-the
-counter pain relievers. But prevention costs you nothing.
Here are five leading headache culprits to watch out for:
STRESS: Frayed nerves are a frequent cause of tension
headaches and may also trigger migraines.
Ideas: Take 30 minutes a day just to daydream, meditate or
otherwise relax. Daily exercise also helps ease stress and tension.
EYESTRAIN: Focusing on one object for a long time (such as a
computer screen) can cause temporary head pain.
Suggestion: Take occasional “eye breaks” by looking out a
window; consider an eye exam to see if a vision problem may be a
factor in your headaches.
DIET: Certain foods contain substances that can trigger
headache pain.
Examples: Caffeine, red wine, processed meats, chocolate,
cheese, citrus fruits, lentils, snow peas and monosodium glutamate
(MSG).
SITTING: Staying seated for long periods, especially if you’re on
the phone or hunched over for extended periods, can tighten
muscles and lead to tension headaches.
Self-defense: Shift positions; stretch once an hour; stand during
phone conversations; take a lunchtime walk.
SLEEP: Too little, or surprisingly, even too much sleep can bring
on headaches.
Best: Control your body’s internal “clock” by going to bed and
getting up at the same
INGREDIENTS
• One red potato per person, cook in skin until fork tender
• One dozen eggs (hard boiled) keep out one or 2 to slice for garnish on
top (I only slice the middles and add the ends to the rest of the eggs)
• 2 bunches of green onions
• 6 celery sticks
DIRECTIONS
1. Cut potatoes into small cubes; finely chop eggs, green onion and celery.
2. Only use Hellmann’s mayonnaise (use enough depending on the number
of potatoes - usually a half bottle; if it's up to 5 lbs of potatoes, use the
whole bottle).
3. Place the mayonnaise in a bowl, with a spoon; fold in "air" until mayo is
very creamy – then pour it over the first 4 ingredients.
4. Add a little salt (don't over do).
5. Fold in - garnish with sliced eggs lightly sprinkle paprika for color.
6. I sometimes ring sprigs of fresh parsley for an added touch.
Hegele Newsletter 2/08
Editorial Letter
Dear Employees,
I would like to present the second edition of our Hegele Newsletter 2008, which is filled with a lot of news and information
about our company.
As you may have noticed, business is pretty slow right now. There are various reasons: The economy in the United States is
slow due to the weak dollar, and the subprime mortgage crisis is also having dramatic effects. Furthermore, due to stricter
governmental regulations, our customers are facing challenges in regards to the financing of new medical equipment. But we
are doing everything we can to keep ourselves on track and move forward.
At this time, I would like to highlight the profile of Paul Holesha, who will be taking over the position of Peter Mohrmann at
the beginning of June. I would also like to draw your attention to the new homepage of Simon Hegele in Germany
(www.hegele.de). A lot of information awaits you there.
Enjoy the newsletter!
Thanks,
Christoph Sitzer
Hegele Group: Business Units of Simon Hegele
2. Business Unit: Medical Logistics and Services
The Simon Hegele company began operating in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 1920 as a For decades, Simon Hegele has been
providing vital logistics services through the Medical Logistics and Services Division of Simon Hegele. There are three
logistic centers located in Forchheim and Kemnath (Germany) that work either directly or indirectly with Siemens Healthcare.
They produce CT’s, X-Ray machines and Therapy Systems for cancer treatment. The employees of Simon Hegele manage the
warehouse inventory and the “just-in-time” supply of components for the production of the units. They support the production
process in many areas (pre-assemble of components, management of C Parts, etc.). After completion and testing of the
systems, Simon Hegele then disassembles and readies them for shipment. CT, AX and Therapy Systems are then crated by out
German Colleagues.
Simon Hegele also provides a high capacity Refurbishment Facility with similar processes as
those of our own Logistic Center. Our colleagues in Germany also install new medical systems
like the HTL teams here in our own High-Tech Department. Over 150 highly trained technicians
install systems around the world.
In total, about 350 employees work for the Medical Logistics and Services Division of Simon
Hegele which makes it the biggest division of Simon Hegele.
Introduction of the five remaining business units will be presented within following newsletter editions.

Farewell & Welcome BBQ
Imaging Technology
2. X-RAY machine
An X-ray machine utilizes electromagnetic radiation
to produce an image of an object, usually for the
purpose of visualizing something located below the
object's surface. The machine is made up of an X-ray
source or X-ray tube, an x-ray detection system, and
positioning hardware to align these two components
with the object to be imaged. X-rays are produced
by introducing a current to a Cathode, which
cascades electrons to an Anode, which when they
collide, produce X-ray photons (all in a vacuum).
How They Work
An X-ray imaging system consists of an X-ray source
or generator, and an image detection system which
can either be comprised of film (analog technology)
or a digital capture system (such as a Picture
archiving and communication system).
Source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-ray_machine
Physicians often use X-Ray Machines for:
♦ The detection of pathology of the skeletal
system.
♦ Detecting some disease processes in soft
tissue.
♦ Chest X-ray, which can be used to identify
lung diseases such as pneumonia, lung cancer
or pulmonary edema, and the abdominal Xray,
which can detect ileus (blockage of the
intestine), free air (from visceral
perforations) and free fluid (in ascites).
♦ The use of X-rays is debatable, such as when
detecting gallstones (which are rarely
radiopaque) or kidney stones (which are
often visible, but not always).
I feel this will be a very challenging and rewarding position, applying past
experience and learning something new every day.
I was hired as a replacement for Peter Mohrmann in November 2007, and the
possibility of potential growth, learning about new equipment and procedures,
working with friendly people makes me even more excited about this position.
On May 29, 2008 we had a farewell BBQ party for Peter Mohrmann combined with celebration of
the successful ISO 9001 audit. Mr. Hoeflinger was also present at the all American BBQ.
After 4 years Peter leaves us to take over new responsibilities with Simon Hegele in Germany.
Peter was heavily involved in the set up of the Hegele Logistic, LLC and to establish our
Refurbished Systems department. With Paul we have found a successor who brings a lot of
experiences of the refurbishment business.
We say thank to Peter for all what he did and wish Paul good luck for the new job.
We don’t want to miss to thank you all for your great job during the last QMS Audit. We passed
successful (further information see QMS section)
Hegele Passes 2nd External
Surveillance Audit
ISSUE 2/08
I am involved in business development and I want to do the best for the company, help it grow financially and
business-wise.
My professional career has been in the refurbishment business, focused mainly in the computer field, starting 22
years ago with main frame, terminal, control unit type equipment, through PC’s, laptops, servers, printers, etc.
My current position with Hegele was a natural fit, since the refurbishment concept is similar, though the
equipment is different. I hope my past experience will prove beneficial to Hegele Logistic in future endeavors.
Siemens Artis zeego is the first multi-axis system that can be
positioned the way you want.
First of all I would like to take this opportunity to
congratulate everyone on their hard work and
involvement with our Quality Management System.
As many of you know, we are required to have an
external audit done every year by our registrar, who
holds our certificate to assure that we are still
running in conformance with our procedures and
the quality standard ISO 9001:2000. It pleases me
to tell you that not only did we pass our surveillance
audit in mid May, we had only two observations and
no Major or Minor Nonconformities recorded -
which is a huge success for us. Let us all continue
to identify and improve our processes so we can
have similar outcomes on all of our audits.
I am also happy to announce that we have hired
Christopher (Chris) Roe as our Quality and Safety
Administrator. Chris’ background provides a
combination of safety and education skills from
working for the Air Force as a supervisor in safety
and rescue, as well as for the fire department in
numerous locations for over 10 years of active and
civilian service. Within the past one and one half
years, Chris taught history classes at Central
Michigan University until it was decided to relocate
back to the Chicago-land area where he was
originally from. Chris currently resides in Chicago
with his wife Jenny.
