Inspired by the Blue Man Group, Brendan has since learned a variety of songs and aspires to become a member himself. Painted in blue, Brendan showed his skills performing the Blue Man Group’s song “Time to Start” in Round 2 of All About Music and Children’s Theater’s inaugural Mokena’s Got Talent competition, which took place June 25 at Jenny’s Southside Tap, located at 10160 W. 191st Street. “I like to perform. I just wanted to be onstage,” Brendan said. Brendan, as well as Caroline Boss, Ginny Frank, May Frank, Gavin O’Keefe and Abby Sanford, who all competed in the Junior Division, will perform in the final round of the competition. In the Senior Division, Aliyah Pechtold, Jillian Rice and Shannon Weiss also are moving on to the finals. “Everyone did so great. We are so proud of everyone that participated,” said Todd Beebe, who owns AAMCT with his wife, Connie Beebe. “It takes a lot to get up in front of a crowd and do that, and they all handled it like pros.” The finalists will perform in Round 3 of the contest at All About Musicpalooza as a part of the Mokena Lions Club Firecracker Weekend Friday, July 14. “We’d like to encourage everyone to come out to show their support for all of these super-talented performers,” Todd said. “There will be lots of other performances and music going on that evening, too. Our youth rock bands will be playing, and our Momentum Vocal Troupe will be singing, as well.” A three-part competition, for Round 1 those interested submitted entries from which Todd and Connie Beebe selected the Top 15 performers, who progressed to Round 2. “This is the first time we’re doing this. It’s something we’ve always wanted to do,” Todd Beebe said. Audience members were asked to bring food items to donate to the Frankfort Township Food Pantry and Together We Cope in Tinley Park in order to receive a voting slip. Finalists from Round 2 were determined by a combination of audience votes and scoring by two judges: Michael Wolniakowski, director at Mokena’s Saint John’s United Church of Christ and an accomplished composer, and Alison Huntley, a music teacher and former AAMCT student. For many who participated, performers at heart, the event was another opportunity to take the stage.
