BUDGET
.......................................................................
1. Have an idea about your
wedding budget
Decide on the budget based on
your finances and then stay within
budget. Ask your parents if they are
going to contribute to your
wedding. Share the budget
information with your families to
make sure every contributor is on
the same page.
2. Itemize the things you
need included in the
budget
3. Customize your wedding
There are aspects of traditional
weddings that may not appeal to
you, and can be eliminated or
restructured based on your
preferences. Nobody says you
HAVE TO have a wedding cake. If
the venue offers desert, you may
opt to give up the wedding cake to
ensure you have a professional
photographer or videographer, or
extra money for your honeymoon.
Remember, it's your day.
4. Post wedding budget
Ensure that you calculate what you
will need as newlyweds the week
after the wedding. These include
groceries, fuel, electricity etc.
If you stay within your wedding
budget and post-wedding budget,
you are well on the right track to
financial harmony in your
marriage.
Modern Day Wedding Scenarios
When the bride and groom are older, or when
parents don't have resources, the bride and groom
tend to pay for all wedding costs themselves
After announcing their engagement, the bride and
groom sit down and estimate what they'll spend on
the wedding, probably after finding a reception site
and making general decisions about theme, style,
time of day etc. They then approach their parents
and after describing what they've decided on so far,
say gently, “We were wondering if you would be
able to pitch in for any of the costs.” The parents
may look at the budget and say, “We'd like to pay
for the reception food and the flowers” for
example. They may also offer a set amount they'll
contribute. If their parents say they can't afford to
contribute, or only offer a small amount, the bride
and groom say, “Thank you for considering,” and
perhaps have to revise their budget or find creative
ways to pay for the wedding.
If the families have agreed to contribute, the next
option is to split the budget three ways. In this
scenario, the bride's family, the groom's family,
and then the bride and groom together each pay
for one third of the budget. Typically, this means
they will also each invite one third of the guests.
