SPORT AT ST GEORGE

In Year 7, there are a number of
sports clubs you can join at the
beginning of the year, including
trials for the football team,
badminton, basketball, rugby, and
handball. Anyone can go to these
clubs, but some are more specific
for only Year 11s.
At most lunch-times, there are clubs specifically for girls, like
football in the Autumn and rounders and badminton in the Summer.
You will have three core P.E. lessons in Year 7, which will probably
be football and rugby in the Autumn, basketball and badminton in
the Spring, and athletics and cricket in the Summer.
Also, there are teams for most sports in each year, where you can
play other schools at sport. These include football, rugby, cricket,
athletics, basketball, badminton, rounders, and netball.
There are also opportunities to go on trips relating to sport – such as
the annual Ski Trip to France.
Finally, at the end of the year, the annual St George Sports Awards
are held. In this, a Sports Personality of the Year is chosen for each
year group, as well as a team that demonstrates our ASPIRE values
the best. There are various other rewards, too, that are awarded to
people who have achieved the most, demonstrated sportsmanship,
etc. The ultimate award is The Overall Sports Personality of the Year
Award, that is awarded to the person who has demonstrated the
best attitude towards sport, the ASPIRE values in sport, and the best
sportsmanship. This can be won by anyone in the school.
