A refuge ranger will guide this hands-on program. Appropriate for children age 5 – 10. Each session is limited to 15 children. Each session is 90 minutes long, allowing time for travel to and from the beach. Meet the ranger at the visitor contact station at parking lot 1. Parent/ guardian must remain with his/her child for the entire duration of this program. Preregistration is required for this program. Each Thursday, Now until August 31, will feature a different family-friendly band, performing on Castle Hill’s Grand Allee overlooking Crane Beach. The Great Escape, a Journey Tribute Band, will perform on July 13. Attendees may bring a picnic supper or purchase seafood, roast beef, chowder, pizza, ice cream and other snacks from on-site vendors. Ipswich Ale and Mill River Winery will sell beverages at a beer and wine garden. Outside alcoholic beverages are not permitted. STORM CHASING Seabrook Library will present a program given by John Cafasso on Storm Chasing! on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at 6:30 pm. Mr. Cafasso is a local meteorology buff who has always had an interest in science. When he retired from Pratt and Whitney in 2013, he started traveling to chase storms, and has driven more than 13,000 miles in

He will discuss how severe storms form, why people chase them and how it is done. This program is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. 25 Liberty Ln, Seabrook, 603-474- 2044 LOCAL SINGER- SONGWRITER MELISSA FERRICK HITS THE FIREHOUSE STAGE Growing up in Ipswich in the 70’s, Melissa played the violin and went to jazz clubs with her father. She learned guitar in elementary and started writing songs in high school. The rest, as they say, is history. Widely regarded as one of the most prolific and hardworking artists in the business, Ferrick has released 17 albums over the past 25 years and shows no signs of slowing down. “I’ve been a fan of Melissa Ferrick since I first saw her open for Ani DiFranco in 2013.” Firehouse Executive Director says. “Her songwriting is some of the best in the business and she always puts on a great show. And the fact that she lives in Newburyport is the icing on the cake.” Signed to Atlantic Records in 1992 at the age of 21, she released her first two albums on Atlantic before moving on to W.A.R. Records. In 2000, Ferrick launched her own label, Right On Records. Having shared the stage with Morrissey, Marc Cohn, John Hiatt, Weezer, Tegan & Sara, Bob Dylan, and many others, Melissa Ferrick is the voice of a generation. Tickets are $25 for non-members, $22 for members, students, and seniors. The Firehouse’s 2016/2017 season is well underway and has some great events coming up to close the season. The Sea Level Oyster Bar Concerts Series continues with Hot Club of Cowtown (July 26), Girls Guns & Glory (August 6) and the New Black Eagle Jazz Band (August 13). Held on the following days: Friday, July 14th, Thursday, July 20th, & Friday, July 28th; all from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm - Join a refuge ranger for a behind the scenes tour of Great Bay National Wildlife Refuge, located in Newington, NH. Participants will have an opportunity to visit areas of the refuge that are not normally open to the public. See a diversity of wildlife habitats while learning how the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is managing this very special landscape for conservation. Consider bringing along binoculars and a camera. The tour is limited to 14 participants; no more than 4 individuals per sign-up. This is a vehicle-based tour, with limited stops on the refuge. This guided program is most appropriate for older teens. and adults.
