When Andy Lane and Johnny Noble first started
selling their oysters in the 1970’s from a small
shack on the coast of Scotland, who would have
known the business would evolve into a well-loved
nationwide chain of quality restaurants.
Hosting 37 restaurants up and down the country,
Loch Fyne is known for providing fresh,
sustainably sourced, wholesome food; much of
which still comes from the same loch where Andy
and Johnny first started.
Norwich homes one of these spectacular
restaurants, which is situated on St Giles Street,
one of Norwich’s oldest medieval streets. The
restaurant is housed in a former ironmongers
dating back to the 1700s and still has some of the
key features including the shop front. This idyllic
positioning is in perfect fitting with their
endeavour to combine the old with the new.
With their new summer menu looking delightful
I was anxious to try it for myself. Upon entering
the restaurant, as always, we were greeted by a
friendly, happy face who showed us to our table.
Being a summer evening it was still light out and
rather hot, but the restaurant lighting was set
perfectly, creating the desired ambience, and the
inside temperature was refreshing.
When it came to menu choices, the drink was easy
for me it must be a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc,
so although their wine menu looked plentiful, we
were anxious to get to the food menu, therefore
we went with our usual tipple. Spoilt for choice, I
was pleased I took along my friend who is always
happy to share, we decided to get starters and
mains where we could do exactly that.
For starters, we chose to go for the Grilled
Scottish King Scallops and the Salt and Pepper
Squid. Both dishes were more than pleasing to
the eye, both being so beautifully dressed, it was
clear attention to detail was a key element to this
delightful restaurant. Excited by what was before
me, I started with the scallops, these really were
as magnificent as they looked, so with enthusiasm
I reached for my half of the squid and was just as
delighted with what I found. The starters really did
exceed our expectations.
King Prawn Malabar Curry along with their
Seafood Tagliatelle were our two choices for
mains. Once again, both dishes arrived looking
extremely tantalising, and tasted just as good
as they looked. Both were bursting with flavour,
mouth-wateringly wholesome and so obviously
fresh. I was sure we had chosen the best items on
the menu, although I am eager to return soon to
try the other dishes on offer.
Overall, what can I say, I found Loch Fyne fully
catered for us in more ways than one! The fish was
a fresh as they claimed it to be, the dishes were so
carefully arranged and each tasted superb. The
restaurant itself was pleasant with its charming
choice of decor and the staff made the experience
even more charming.
Look no further than Loch Fyne for your choice
of seafood!
