The Canadian Parvasi BRAMPTON: After an incident on Tuesday in which two men posing as firefighters tried to enter a home in Brampton for checking smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, Brampton fire department officials are cautioning people to be careful about fakes. Residents have been cautioned that Brampton fire officials always wear uniforms, and carry ID when knocking at people’s doors. According to Brampton fire Deputy Chief Peter Gatto, when firefighters go door-to-door as part of various community outreach programs, including the Alarmed for Life Program, these programs are advertised in advance. "We put hangers on the doors days before,” Gatto said. The incident which has triggered this warning to residents happened in the area of McLaughlin Road and Bovaird Drive on Tuesday when the two men, carrying what appeared to be a bag of alarms, said they were from Brampton Fire and Emergency Services and wanted to come inside her home. The woman didn’t allow them to enter her home. Instead, she called Brampton fire’s non-emergency line to report the incident. Peel Regional Police have not been able to find the two men and the fire department thinks it was an isolated incident. Glenn Thibeault When we introduced Ontario’s Fair Hydro Plan in March, our government committed to fundamentally restructuring the system to deliver the biggest cut to electricity rates in Ontario’s history. I’m happy to say that the Fair Hydro Plan is now a reality. And I believe this is the fairer way forward. Recently, the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) announced it had taken the final steps to lower electricity prices by an average of 25 per cent for all residential consumers in the province. As many as half a million small businesses and farms will also benefit. The OEB, the province’s independent body that sets rates, lowered bills in response to the Fair Hydro Act, 2017, which passed in the Ontario legislature on May 31. All Progressive Conservative and NDP MPPs in attendance that day opposed our plan to bring down electricity rates and voted against the Fair Hydro Plan. Relief through the Fair Hydro Plan is immediate. We also designed these reductions to last, by holding electricity rates to inflation for four years. In addition, we’re updating our long-term energy plan, which will continue our trend of taking costs out of the electricity system and making it more affordable for ratepayers. Fifteen years ago, our electricity system had become unreliable, the victim of years of neglect by governments of all stripes, which culminated in the unforgettable blackout of 2003. We had to reinvest in our system, and that came at a cost to ratepayers. But the fact is electricity bills were becoming unaffordable for too many people. Premier Wynne and I spoke to people across the province about their electricity bills, hearing how they were struggling with rising payments. In September 2016, we announced an eight per cent rate reduction, equivalent to the provincial portion of the HST. But that wasn’t enough. People’s bills were still increasing too much, too fast. As we continued to listen to peoples’ concerns, it became clear that we needed to bring even more relief and it had to apply to everyone in the province, which led to our Fair Hydro Plan. We heard that the most vulnerable among us needed even more support. That’s why we expanded the Ontario Electricity Support Program, providing 50 per cent more support in the form of monthly credits for people with low incomes. Today, more households are eligible for the program than ever before. People in rural and northern communities also pay more for electricity, because it takes more infrastructure to deliver electricity to where they live. Today, the Rural or Remote Rate Protection Program has been expanded to help about 800,000 households — cutting electricity bills by 40 to 50 per cent for eligible customers, effective July 1. These changes to the way we pay for electricity are fairer, and they are lasting. We can afford them because of Ontario’s strengthening economy, which is the fastest growing in Canada, and we need them to ensure the growth in our economy translates to more opportunity and security for people right across Ontario. There is no better way to use the province’s recently balanced budget than by giving everyone the break they need on their hydro bills. It’s the right thing to do for Ontario and the fair thing to do for your family. Moreover, these marriages of convenience will jeopardize the chances of genuine couples in getting visa and immigration because immigration authorities in the sought-after countries such as Canada are bound to tighten the screening process for new immigrants. But it seems like the onslaught can’t be contained within the city limits; as Mississauga and Georgetown are getting roasted as well. What are especially funny are the heated battles in the comment section between followers of the page that are sometimes funnier than the memes themselves. They have been reported and suspended from Facebook numerous times. According to the administrators; the page was started as just a joke and 80% of the memes have been submitted by its followers. They also commented that although the page does have some material that can be deemed offensive. We do our best to make fun of everyone, as we believe in equality. Sometimes the funniest part is sit back watch how triggered someone can get over an image. But it isn’t always just about the memes, they also post general links related to Brampton. Either way they have over 20,000 followers and have a reach over 2 million people. Clearly people are finding it funny. Is it offensive? The Canadian Parvasi BRAMPTON: Investigators from the Peel Regional Police Central Robbery Bureau have arrested and charged a male in relation to a gunpoint carjacking that occurred in the City of Brampton. On Saturday, July 15, 2017, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the victim was returning to his car, which was parked in a commercial parking lot in the area of Queen Street and Chinguacousy Road in Brampton. The victim was approached by the culprit, who pointed a gun at him and demanded his car keys. A physical altercation ensued, and the culprit assaulted the victim several times with the butt of the gun. The accused then took the keys from the victim, entered the driver’s side of the vehicle, and fled the area westbound on Queen Street. The victim was transported to hospital where he was treated for non- life-threatening injuries. At approximately 4:00 a.m., the stolen vehicle was stopped by officers in the area of Hurontario Street and Derry Road in Mississauga. The male suspect who was operating the vehicle was arrested at the scene. Abbassy Uwambajimana, a 26 years old male from Brampton, has been charged in the case. (Press release)
The International News Weekly July 21, 2017 | Toronto 11 Councillor Carolyn Parrish spars with comedian Russell Peters, tells him to stay in the US The Canadian Parvasi MISSISSAUGA: Maverick Mississauga Councillor Carolyn Parrish, who is known for her controversial remarks, has this time targeted comedian Russell Peters after he said in an CNN interview that he "felt more like an immigrant in Canada’’ than in the US. Tweeting her angry response, Parrish advised Peters, "Good to know, Sunshine! You can stay there.’’ Peters, who is of Indian origin, ranked ninth on Forbes’ 2016 list of highestpaid comedians, with an annual income of $9 million. Since it is Peters’ racebased humour that has made him a hit with audiences, fetching him a role in many Hollywood movies, the Mississauga councillor said, "We helped him become successful by being open with his brand of humour. I was angry that he was so dismissive of the country who got him where he is.” On the CNN interview when Peters was asked how he uses race and ethnicity as a hook for his brand of humour, he replied, "I think it’s just the way my brain is programmed, you know, from being born in Canada and even though I was born and raised in Canada, I felt like I was treated like an immigrant the whole time, and then 11 years ago, I moved to America and now I’m actually an immigrant and feel more assimilated then I did in Canada, oddly enough.” This made Carolyn Parrish angry. But for Carolyn Parrish, anything about the US raises her hackles. She has called the Americans bastard. In 2004, she was kicked out of the Liberal party after she stomped on a doll of President George W. Bush for the CBC’s This Hour Has 22 Minutes. She was angry about the Iraqi invasion by the US-led coalition, calling it a ``coalition of idiots.’’ Because of her acerbic tongue, a supporter presented her a embroidered pillow in 2005 for her tendency to get into trouble. Ontario families being gouged on hydro bills, says NDP TORONTO - Ontario NDP Energy Critic Peter Tabuns issued the following statement regarding today's Fraser Institute report on Ontario's skyrocketing hydro costs: “The report released this morning by the Fraser Institute shows that Ontario families are being gouged, paying the highest prices for hydro in the nation. That report underscores the need to bring hydro back into public hands so we can regain control over skyrocketing bills. With hydro bills going up at four times the rate of inflation, still we see another 20 per cent hike to delivery rates being considered. And top of that, we learned yesterday that Hydro One will buy and merge with American utility giant Avista -- a move to create a huge multinational utility that means even less control and even more financial risk for Ontarians. The NDP has a plan to lower hydro bills for everyone by at least 30 per cent and bring hydro back into public hands, so families can afford to keep their lights on and make dinner at dinner time once again, and hydro revenues can be invested into the services people need, from health care to transit.
