NHRA Lucas Oil Regional Results Records and Excitement Herald Annual NHRA Event New track and national records are only part of the excitement accompanying this year’s NHRA Lucas Oil Regional Event at New England Dragway. The three day event provided even the most causal of race fans with an memories that will last a lifetime. Topping the list of accomplishments was local standout Dan Page when he reset the track elapsed time record with a 5.233 run in the third qualifying session of Top Alcohol Dragster. That unseated Josh Hart from the number one position, though Hart went on to defeat Page in the final round on Saturday night. Because of ever increasing postage costs New England Dragway will begin publishing its newspaper digitally. It’s a significant change to a publication that has been in print for nearly 30 years. But, according to New England Dragway General Manager Joe Lombardo, it’s one that is long overdue. “We’re one of the few tracks in the country publishing its own newspaper. Many moved to a digital version and abandoned the printed copy.” The change also gives New England Dragway to publish more issues throughout the year. The process of having New England Dragway News delivered to your inbox is quick and easy. Simply go to New England Dragway’s website www.newenglanddragway.com and click on the New England Dragway News digital sign-up link. 4 Race Your Ride During Wednesday and Friday Street Nights One of the unique factors about Street Night at New England Dragway is anyone with a valid driver’s license can take a shot at the track. You don’t need to have all the performance goodies or a tire smoking monster. All you need is your daily driver and a desire to experience the thrill of putting the go pedal to the metal. Every Wednesday and Friday night men and women of all ages converge on New England Dragway to feel the rush of adrenaline of safe and legal racing on the same track as the professionals compete on. Some come up to race against t h e i r friends just for bragging rights. Others come to set up a baseline before they make any performance modifications. But most of all, everyone comes to have fun. There are a few rules. First, if you’re under the age of 18 you do need parental permission. Track officials can help you navigate that process. Your car or truck must have working seat belts, safe DOT approved tires, working headlights and taillights. In some cases you may be required to wear a helmet and long pants are required. It all depends upon the elapsed time of your vehicle. Rules are a bit different for motorcycles. Riders need over the ankle shoes or boots, a leather or jacket and a helmet. If your machine is quick enough you’ll need leather pants, as well. We know the first time out can be a bit stressful; especially if you haven’t watched racing before. Don’t worry. Track officials can help you understand the process for making a run. You’ll learn about the Christmas Tree, how to read a time slip, and ways to improve your reaction time.
