The free to use service offers support in two main areas: • Providing the elderly, physically disabled and housebound with assistance to care for their companion animal in their own home. • Creation of a foster support network (for the temporary care of owned pets or animals at LAA seeking an alternative environment). The scheme will work in conjunction with professional referral partners (e.g. local social services, health services, vets and voluntary organisations) and will be delivered by DBS trained animal care care assistants with the support of the team at Leicester Animal Aid. Campaign Tackling © speedkingz/ shutterstock Fraud Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland is helping protect individuals from becoming victims of fraud. Fraudsters can target anyone, but you can protect yourself and the people you care for. The recently launched Tackling Fraud campaign will help residents across Leicestershire & Rutland tackle the threat of fraud. The campaign, funded by credit reference agency Experian, will help thousands of residents by providing advice and support during the 6 month programme. Along with the Rural Community Council (Leicestershire & Rutland), Age UK Leicester Shire & Rutland will make contact and work with community groups and individuals to provide advice on how to SPOT fraudulent activity and STOP it happening to them or people they know or care for. The campaign is aimed primarily at the over 55’s who are deemed more susceptible to fraudulent approaches. It will look at some of the most common scams this age group encounters and advise what people can do to protect themselves from becoming a victim of one. We will also be providing advice on how to report a scam and how to access help and advice. Some of the hints and tips that are provided include: • Never give your bank card or PIN to anyone • Never send money or pay fees to claim prizes or lottery winnings • Don’t be afraid to put the phone down to cold callers or to end the call with a brief “No, thank you” • Take your time and don’t be rushed or pressured into a commitment – ask questions or seek a second opinion from someone you trust • Don’t call unfamiliar numbers or reply to unsolicited texts as these may charge at premium rates • Never assume an email or phone call is authentic. And the familiar, yet often ignored... If it seems too good to be true, it probably is! If you’re worried about someone and believe they may be a fraud victim contact Action Fraud 0300 123 2040.
