MESSAGE FROM THE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Welcome to our fall activities guide. It has been a fun-filled summer with
lots of great activities and events. The District hosted the 15th annual
Carbon Valley Firecracker 5k on July 4th as a way to get the holiday off to
a fun start. A record breaking 370 runners participated in this year’s race.
We hope those of you who ran or walked it had an enjoyable experience.
We’re busy preparing for our annual shut down which is scheduled for Sunday, August 27 through Monday,
September 4. Staff has developed a lengthy list of tasks and objectives to accomplish during shutdown week.
Examples of the work to be performed include painting walls, repairing shower valves, cleaning carpet, repairing
machines, cleaning air ducts, stripping and refinishing floors in the racquet ball court and gymnasium, and much
more. The majority of work is performed by staff which saves the District time and money. It takes our entire
team to successfully complete all the necessary tasks to maintain our facility and provide a clean and safe
environment for guests. The District apologizes for the inconvenience to our customers during this time, however
the annual cleaning week is vital to the overall maintenance and cleanliness of our facilities. We have arranged
for the Ft. Lupton Recreation Center to host our members during shutdown week.
The Board of Directors and the District encourage you to become part of the fun and active lifestyle demonstrated
by our guests and the many residents of Carbon Valley who utilize the programs and events offered by the
District. Try any of our outstanding fitness classes such as Bodypupmp, yoga, Pilates or aqua fitness. Browse
through the activities guide and take advantage of the wide variety of recreation opportunites the District has
available for all age groups from pre-school to active adults.
Sincerely,
Ross Blackmer, Executive Director of Carbon Valley Park and Recreation District

YOUTH SPORTS
YOUTH SPORTS INFORMATION
• Practice times, days, and locations are determined by
coaches after the coaches meeting.
• The “U” after the age number stands for “and under” that
age. (e.g. 9U stands for players age can be 9 and under).
• Coaches meetings are typically held 1-2 weeks
before the first scheduled practice. Team rosters are
distributed at the coaches meeting and all coaches are
encouraged to begin contacting their team members
as soon as possible.
• The "U" before the age number stands for "under" that
age. (e.g. U9 players must be under 9 years old)
• The age cutoff date for all youth sports (unless otherwise
noted) is September 30 of each year with this year
being 2017. A universal date is used so there is consistency
from sport to sport and year to year. This is also
the age cutoff date used by the St. Vrain Valley School
District. Whatever age your child is on 9/30/17, they
are eligible for that age of sport for the entire year.
CARBON VALLEY LEARN TO SWIM PROGRAM
Our American Red Cross-based swim program creates an ideal environment to learn the fundamentals of water safety
as well as stroke development and refinement. Participants are given a report card to track their progress and indicate
if they are ready to pass on to the next level. Proper swim attire is required, no clothing (rash-guards are okay) as this
inhibits proper movement when learning to swim. Make-up classes will not be offered unless Carbon Valley Aquatics
has to cancel a class day. No refunds will be given after the first three classes. Swim lesson fees do not include
admission to the pool. NO SWIM LESSONS THE WEEK OF NOVEMBER 20-25.
Massage Services
at the Carbon Valley Recreation Center
Therapeutic Swedish Massage
During Swedish Massage a therapist applies lotion or oil onto the skin
and works it smoothly and slowly over the muscles. You determine the
amount of pressure used. Massage uses relaxing strokes to increase
circulation of the blood and lymph nodes in the body and release toxins
from the muscles. Deep tissue and Trigger-Point work are available as
needed or requested. LMT: Kellyanne Klink and Katy Fox
Injury Massage
The objective of Injury Massage is to identify and work specific muscle
groups involved to reduce scar tissue restrictions, increase range of
motion, and reduce pain and recovery time. This can also reduce stress
related to injury or post-operative recovery. LMT: Kellyanne Klink
Deep Tissue Massage
Similar to Swedish massage with deeper pressure; beneficial for releasing
chronic muscle tension. This massage focuses on the deepest layers
of muscle tissue, tendons, and fascia (the proactive layer surrounding
muscles, bones, and joint). Additional $5 is added to Deep Tissue
Massages. LMT: Kellyanne Klink
Benefits include but are not limited to:
• Improved circulation • Improved flexibility and range of motion
• Lowered blood pressure • Decreased stress, anxiety, and fatigue
• Headache relief
• Increased immunity, energy, and concentration
• Improved sleep quality • Helps athletes in training
