Installation 

service 

Carpentry 

TLJ employ various installation engineers and, unsurprisingly, 

carpentry is a key element of the installation process. Initially 

the door holes are cut using a router and jig, specially designed 

for the TLJ lock sets. Subsequently, the mortise and handles are 

fixed to the door and secured in place. Finally, the keep plate 

is carved into the door frame inline with the latch and deadbolt. 

Electrical 

The TLJ Access Control readers require hard wiring and mains 

power. Part of the TLJ installation service includes the electrical 

wiring of the wall reader units and the associated devices such as 

mag-locks and exit buttons. 

Health & Safety 

All TLJ engineers have completed a rigourous induction course 

and are fully trained on all TLJ equipment, tools and working 

methods. They carry valid CSCS (Construction Skills Certification 

Scheme) cards at all times and TLJ provide RAMS (Risk Assessment 

and Method Statements) for all projects. In addition, TLJ is a member 

of CHAS (Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme) 

and Safe Contractor.

At TLJ we understand that our commitment to you is only just beginning when the sale 

is made. That’s why we offer the peace of mind that, should something go wrong or 

queries arise, we have your back. Whilst boasting a 3-year lock set warranty, the 

foundation of the TLJ aftersales support begins with three fundamental services: 

TLJ First Aid Box 

Retained at the property, the TLJ First Aid Box contains various 

emergency spares and parts. In the event of a hardware failure 

the TLJ First Aid Box can be called upon - supported by our 24/7 

Helpdesk (see below). Any parts used should be replenished; 

Helpdesk can assist you in restoring your TLJ First Aid Box. 

24/7 Helpdesk Support 

A dedicated local rate hotline. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 

365 days a year, TLJ’s Helpdesk is available to assist with queries, 

issues and problems. PC remote login software is also on hand 

to assist with more complex matters. 

Automatic Cloud backup 

The TLJ database is the heart of the system. We take daily 

backups of the database, and can easily restore it in the event 

of a critical failure resulting from data corruption, a crash 

or PC malfunction. This is just another example of how 

we aim to give our clients complete peace of mind.

Accreditation 

and certification 

Professional accreditation by recognised industry bodies is a vital 

component of the TLJ offering, both in respect of our reputation and 

the products and services we provide. 

Assuring our clients that they are in safe hands, TLJ have attained a 

variety of certifications, two of which impart particular significance 

when it comes to access control: 

Secured by Design 

Secured by Design works with the industry and test houses to 

create high level security standards. Responsive to trends in crime, 

the scheme has provided input on a number of key standards. 

The principles of the scheme have been proven to reduce the 

risk of crime. 

CE Marking 

CE Marking on a product is a manufacturer's declaration that the 

product complies with the essential requirements of the relevant 

European health, safety and environmental protection legislation. 

TLJ holds several CE certifications: 

EN 14846:2008 - This test refers specifically to electronic 

locks/latches. It covers cycle testing, 

strength, durability and corrosion, amongst 

other tests. 

EN 1634-1:2014 - A fire resistance test of a full door set with 

a TLJ lock set installed to the door. 

FD30 and FD60 refer to 30 minute and 

60 minute fire resistances respectively. 

Other Accreditations

Revolutionalising the world of access control as we know it, 

TLJ Connect offers exceptional control and functionality with 

minimal demand on network infrastructure and investment. 

Best described as a hybrid of offline lock sets and online 

readers, TLJ Connect employs the user token (key card, key fob etc.) 

as the method of transferring instructions and information around 

the building. 

Example: let’s assume that the batteries are low in an offline lock set 

(maybe located on a bedroom door). When a key card is used to 

open the door, the lock set passes this information to the card. 

When that same key card is used to open an online reader 

(maybe located on a corridor or entrance) the low battery warning 

is transferred from the key card to the reader. The information is 

then communicated directly to the PC, where the TLJ software 

(ALMS) will alert the operator.

RFID wall reader 

The TLJ Access control wall reader is used on public doors which 

may be subject to medium or high traffic volume, e.g. a front entrance. 

Typically the reader is wall mounted within close proximty of the door 

and controls an electro-magnetic lock or such other suitable device. 

The reader communicates with a TLJ controller which 

in turn instructs the electro-magnetic lock to lock or unlock 

the door. The controller also provides the reader with a 

12 volt power supply.

The TLJ Access control wall reader and TLJ controller are 

hard-wired units, requiring electrical installation and a 240 

volt mains supply. A wiring diagram is available to aid with 

installation.

PULL 

There are two variants of the TLJ Access control wall 

reader, offline and online. Both work in conjunction 

with the TLJ platform, using the same token (card, 

fob, wristband etc.) The online version, however, offers 

the advantage of communicating directly with the TLJ 

management software (ALMS) allowing remote control, 

cancellation, locking/unlocking and issuing access tokens. 




Manufacture 

and Inventory 

Made in Britain Campaign 

The Made in Britain marque is accredited to businesses selling 

goods that have been manufactured or have undergone a final 

substantial change in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and 

Northern Ireland before sale. 

The TLJ lock sets comprise of a metal housing structure, 

otherwise known as the lock body or shell, a mortise 

lock case and a printed circuit board (PCB). Whilst the global 

economy and hard commodity market can influence the 

manufacturing process, the experts at TLJ strive to deliver 

each project to the same exacting standards. 

This involves preparing the specified model and colour finish 

of the lock body, configuring the correct orientation of the 

lock case, then installing the latest version of the TLJ firmware 

on to the lock’s PCB. This instructs the lock set how to 

behave, and allows it to communicate with the TLJ software 

platform (ALMS).

Recent Project 

Residential 

The Collective - Old Oak, Acton, West London 

Comprising over 500 residential apartments, some studios, some twodios, this 

project was part of a £100 million new build construction project for The Collective. 

Located in Acton, the Old Oak is also used as a shared co-working space, as well as 

other various facilities, such as a gym and supermarket. 

TLJ provided a comprehensive access control system, using the TLJ Infinity lock set 

on bedroom doors and the TLJ wall reader on over 50 communal doors, as well 

as controlling the elevator use to 10 floors. 

TLJ worked alongside the main contractor and the maintenance & engineering 

sub-contractor to deliver an integrated system. TLJ engineers installed 

all the locks to the bedroom doors during the build, as well as the 

electrical termination of the readers, mag-locks and fire alarm link. 

A resident’s key card gains them access to the front 

main entrance, stairways, lift elevators, communal 

spaces and ultimately their individual apartment.


Leisure & Hospitality 

Hoar Cross Hall Spa Hotel, Derbyshire 

Hoar Cross Hall Spa Hotel is a luxury stately home retreat, set in the Derbyshire 

countryside. With hundreds of doors, thousands of different keys and a high staff 

turnover, Hoar Cross Hall had an increasing security risk across their whole site. 

TLJ were selected to provide a functional access control system whilst complementing 

the traditional decor throughout. 

TLJ installed various lock models in a variety of finishes to a range of door types: 

bedrooms, storage, treatment rooms, staff accommodation and back-of-house, 

as well as an integrated locker system for six different changing rooms. 

Waterproof wristbands are provided to all guests upon arrival, which store the access 

privileges for selected doors and lockers. The TLJ Solution fully integrates with Hoar 

Cross Hall’s Property Management System for a seamless 

check-in process on an extremely busy reception desk.


Student Accommodation 

Multiple Student Accommodation operators 

Over recent times, the construction of student accommodation blocks has increased 

dramatically, a direct impact of the growing demand for university places. 

Traditionally, students were given a mechanical metal key to access their cluster and 

flat, however with the large loss rate of keys this was costly and time consuming. 

Consequently, access control systems are now specified throughout student 

accommodation estates, allowing for instant cancellation and re-creation of lost key 

cards or fobs. 

Typically, a single key card would be used to operate a multitude of doors, such as 

the front entrance, cycle store, gym, bin store, common room and then 

ultimately the specific cluster and flat of the student. Student access 

is often time restricted on communal doors such as the gym. For 

example, the key card may only open this door between 

8am and 8pm. 

Doors can also be set to remain open until 

a key card is presented a second time. 

A useful application of this feature 

would be, for example, the door 

of a flat which shares a 

kitchen with others, 

reducing the 

risk of lockouts.

Mobile Keys 

and Remote Access 

The revolutionary new mobile access solution from TLJ offers users the ability to open 

doors using their smartphone as the secure key. With the ever growing functionality of 

today’s mobile phone, more and more consumers expect the smart experience. 

How does it work?
