CHIEF EXECUTIVE REPORT 

AS THE year rapidly draws to a 

close there are many challenges 

that lie ahead for our industry in 

the coming year. We need to be 

ready to rise to the challenges that 

separating from Europe will bring, 

whatever they turn out to be. 

We can already see pressures 

caused by the drop in the value of 

the pound against other currencies 

and no-one seems to know where 

it will end and, as most of our 

members do not export their 

expertise abroad, we are unable 

to take advantage of this lower 

exchange rate. Many members are 

already bracing themselves against 

increased production costs, which 

at this time are most unwelcome. 

Further challenges will appear 

with the New Apprentice Levy 

which every company with a 

wage bill of over £3m will pay. 

Whilst it is almost clear how new 

companies in England will access 

grant on this levy it is as yet 

unclear in Scotland. 

On the educational front 

there are continued discussions 

with the Scottish Qualifications 

Authority regarding the Level 3 

SVQ (now to be called the SCQF 

Level 6/7). These are delicate 

discussions which, if we lose 

the debate, could impact on 

apprenticeships going forward. 

On a more positive note, we 

have completed this year’s round 

of wage negotiations which 

have been promulgated to our 

members. 

Neil, our new National 

Secretary, is settling in nicely 

and has been a little surprised 

at the number of different things 

and issues that the Federation 

is involved with. Any member 

wishing to contact Neil can do so 

through SDF HQ. 

Next year’s convention will 

be in October 27, 28, rather that 

our usual March spot and again 

will be held in Dalmahoy Hotel in 

Edinburgh. 

Finally, we’re here to help 

whether it’s employment issues or 

training operatives, just contact 

SDF HQ.

SPEED EQUALS PERFECTION WITH 

MIRKA’S ABRANET 

CONTINUING ITS ‘Abranet ® 

Perfection’ marketing campaign 

to raise awareness of the issue of 

airborne dust emission associated 

with sanding, Mirka is expanding 

its message to cover speed and 

efficiency. The extended campaign 

is being communicated across print, 

social media and digital platforms 

using imagery that emphasises the 

importance of Abranet as a fast 

and effective abrasive solution that 

assists businesses in saving time 

and money, while still providing a 

dust-free environment to work in. 

The Abranet range has been 

designed and developed to 

work together with Mirka tools 

such as the lightweight DEROS 

sander for optimal dust removal, 

which translates into improved 

efficiency for businesses and better 

environmental conditions for 

customers and workers. Research 

carried out at Mirka’s R&D centre 

at its headquarters in Jeppo, 

Finland, found that Abranet’s 

hard wearing surface offers a 

faster process and prevents the 

abrasive from rapid or premature 

wear, offering a product lifespan 

many times longer than traditional 

abrasives. This means fewer 

consumables are needed, the work 

environment stays much cleaner, 

and a smooth, consistent, high 

quality finish is achieved on a 

cleaner surface. 

Mirka’s total solution makes 

sanding easier and more effective 

for the user across multiple 

applications, laboratory tests show 

that Abranet addresses the dust 

issue more comprehensively than 

any other product. The amount 

of dust in the air when machine 

sanding with Abranet is 6,900 

times less than when sanding 

using traditional abrasives with 

dust extraction. When Abranet 

was compared to a traditional 

6-hole sanding disc with a dust 

extraction system, it proved itself to 

be superior. The dust concentration 

from Abranet was maximum 

0.15mg/m 3 , while the corresponding 

figure for the traditional sanding 

disc was 1.6mg/m 3 .

MIRKA’S CORDLESS SANDERS HIT THE SPOT 

MIRKA IS expanding its power 

tools range with the addition of 

the first small, brushless, batterydriven, 

spot repair, cordless sanders 

that have both orbital and random 

orbital movements. The new 

AOS-B 130NV and AROS-B 150 NV 

sanders are suitable for multiple 

sanding operations including 

finessing, and Corian ® sanding 

applications, producing a highly 

quality, consistently smooth finish, 

maximising productivity. 

The AOS and AROS are both 

powered by a Mirka BPA 10820 

battery pack, which has a full 

charge time of 40 minutes or 

less, reducing tool downtime 

and increasing efficiency. When 

fully charged, it provides the user 

with economical and consistent 

performance for the duration of the 

sander’s battery life, which can last 

up to 16 hours when used in spot 

repair applications. 

The rpm on the sanders can be 

adjusted in steps from 4,000 rpm 

up to 8,000 rpm and, if required, 

can be locked to prevent accidental 

rpm changes. The easy-to-use trigger 

system stops the sander when the 

fingers are removed from the trigger, 

but it will continue to stay in an 

active mode for a short time before 

it automatically shuts off. 

The tools’ lightweight design 

allows them to be moved easily 

from job to job for more efficient 

use of the workspace available, 

while their compact ergonomic 

design provides users with a 

comfortable grip that will enable 

them to operate the products 

for a long period of time, while 

delivering good control over the 

sanding process. The low noise and 

vibration levels reduce arm fatigue, 

minimising the risk of Hand Arm 

Vibration Syndrome. 

Their innovative features also 

include an easy attachment for 

the backing pad with the help of a 

‘quicklock’ system, resulting in less 

downtime when changing abrasives. 

The new Mirka cordless tools 

come complete with spare battery, 

charger and two quicklock backing 

pads: PSA Hard (mounted on the 

machine) and Grip Soft. The tools 

are covered by the Mirka 2+1 year 

warranty.

JOHNSTONE’S SCHEME LIGHTS UP RESIDENTS’ HOMES

decorating allowance scheme 

has helped more than 650 North 

West Leicestershire District Council 

residents create brighter interiors 

for their homes in the past three 

years. 

The council started using the 

scheme in December 2013, and 

in doing so gave its residents 

unprecedented opportunity 

to access quality products to 

help them settle into their new 

accommodation. 

The scheme allows housing 

associations and local authorities to 

provide residents with decorating 

materials from Johnstone’s 

Trade’s network of more than 190 

Decorating Centres nationwide, via 

three distinct methods. 

Of the three methods - 

decorating packs, monetary 

vouchers and points - North West 

Leicestershire District Council have 

utilised the pack schemes. 

The council has also taken 

advantage of an innovation from 

Johnstone’s Trade in the form of its 

comprehensive online management 

system. The system enables the 

council to instantly activate and 

cancel packs, have constant 

visibility of spend levels and see 

which internal member of staff has 

administered a pack and which

NEW HQ FOR PROUD STOKE BUSINESS 

NOVUS PROPERTY Solutions has 

marked six decades of business in 

Stoke-on-Trent with the opening of 

its brand new headquarters at Five 

Towns House. 

The national maintenance, 

refurbishment and new build 

contractor first moved to Stoke 

in the forties and has occupied 

purpose-built facilities in Fenton 

since 1957, but the company’s 

growth in the last few years has 

seen its staff outgrow the original 

facility and for a number of years 

teams of staff have occupied a 

multitude of buildings in the vicinity. 

The family-owned business

planning stages of the new facility, 

which will house 100 operational 

and core service staff. 

The company has created a 

modern, versatile workspace

has inspirational images of local

CROWN PAINTS has revealed 

the latest colour trends, offering 

inspiration for the autumn and

Colour Influences programme,

curated three colour palettes for 

autumn and winter.

The first of the three palettes,

blocks of tone that are interrupted

The second palette ‘Skyscapes’, 

is inspired by a natural landscape, 

and uses layers of tonal colour to 

create an ethereal, magical look – 

and it illustrates just how versatile 

blue can be. 

Accents within the trend include 

sophisticated grey and chalky 

neutrals, which perfectly enhance 

the blue gradations and offer a 

subtle nod to clouds, mist and 

rocks.

Berries,’ which sees nature take on 

a robust and moody persona. 

This atmospheric influence

HR EXPERT HAS HIGH HOPES FOR NOVUS 

STUART CAVANAGH has said he 

wants to make Novus Property 

Solutions “an employer of choice 

in the industry” in his new role 

as the company’s head of human 

resources. 

Having previously worked as HR 

director at The Freeman Company 

– the world’s largest event and 

exposition firm – Stuart has 

brought 16 years of multi-sector 

HR experience to Novus. 

The 36-year-old, who was born 

in Manchester, has HR experience 

in security, retail and the public 

sector, but he has insisted that 

Novus requires its own distinct 

culture that fits with the ethos of 

the business and its staff. 

He said: “I don’t believe in

culture and model. I need to find 

the blueprint that works for Novus. 

“Our story is compelling and I 

want to make us an employer of

SHORTLIST ANNOUNCED 

FOR APPRENTICE AWARD 

THREE OF the country’s most 

promising young tradespeople have 

been shortlisted to win the Novus 

Property Solutions Apprentice of the 

Year award. 

The award-winning maintenance, 

refurbishment and new build 

contractor has a long history of 

developing successful painters, 

decorators, builders and managers, 

and three of its current crop of 

apprentices have been singled out as 

being bound for great things. 

Two of the shortlisted candidates, 

James Riley and Luke Mulliner, are 

third year painting and decorating 

apprentices based at Novus’ 

Wrexham office, and they will be 

hoping to follow in the footsteps 

of the 2016 Apprentice of the Year, 

Daniel Holdcroft, who is also a 

painter and decorator. 

James and Luke are joined on 

the 2017 shortlist by Reece Jones, 

a third year multi-trade apprentice 

from Birmingham. Reece was chosen, 

along with James, to represent Novus 

Property Solutions on humanitarian 

trips to Slovenia in 2014 and 2015, 

and all three Apprentice of the Year 

candidates have taken advantage of 

the many unique opportunities that 

being a Novus apprentice opens up. 

Novus has taken on a record 

number of new apprentices this year, 

but James, Luke and Reece have 

impressed the company’s judging 

panel with the level of commitment 

and dedication shown to their chosen 

professions since being taken on as 

apprentices. 

James Riley said: “It is an honour 

to have been shortlisted for this 

award at a company where there are 

so many talented apprentices. 

“As apprentices, we can see the 

clear career progression available to 

us at Novus, because so many of the 

company’s managers and directors 

started out in the same position

TOOLED UP WITH KNOWLEDGE FOR BETTER 

MAINTENANCE

importance of regular and consistent

• Regular checks should be carried out before 

using any tool to ensure that it is safe to use. 

Remember excessive vibration can cause HAV 

(Hand arm Vibration) always check to ensure the 

correct backing pad is fitted. If any issues are 

found, make sure they are fixed by a certified 

repairer.

• Constantly check for worn or damaged 

backing pads as even the slightest amount 

of wear can cause a significant increase in 

vibration levels of the tool. 

• On the PROS or DEROS machines, if you 

intend to use an interface pad (5mm / 10mm), 

you should remove the backing pad and insert 

the grub screw that comes in the box with the 

tool into the remaining threaded hole beneath 

the pad. This will counter balance the weight of 

the interface pad and reduce the vibration of the 

tool when in use. 

• Minimise the dragging of cables and hoses 

along the ground as this can cause damage to 

both and result in having to replace them. 

• Ensure that the compressor is working at 

optimum level and regularly check for water in 

the air lines to reduce the risk of corrosion of the 

metal parts within the air tool’s motor. 

Dust Extractors 

• Ensure that the dust extractor is being used 

with a Mirka Fleece dust bag, Extractors used 

without a dust bag can cause damage to the 

machine and release fine particles in the air. 

• Check the level of the dust bag on a regular 

basis and replace when two thirds full. 

• Periodically check and clean the extraction 

filter, this can be done easily using the push and 

clean filter cleaning mechanism on all Mirka 

extractors.

HVLP stands for High Volume Low Pressure, and, 

as the term suggests, involves a spraying process 

which is characterised by spraying at high 

volume and under low pressure. Over recent 

years, WAGNER has further developed this 

process into XVLP - “EXtra Volume Low Pressure”, 

extending the advantages of the HVLP system 

even further through the extra high volume of 

air. XVLP is the ideal spraying process for smaller 

projects and repair jobs. The XVLP system 

combines the positive characteristics of low 

pressure with those of a high pressure process, 

i.e. less overspray and fine atomisation mean 

less loss of material, an environmentally-friendly 

spraying process and a fine spray pattern. A turbo 

blower generates the atomising air which flows 

through an air hose into the paint container 

on the spray gun where it builds up pressure. 

This delivers the coating material through the 

standpipe to the nozzle and atomises it with the 

remaining air in such a way that when leaving the 

air nozzle, the pressure is considerably reduced. 

This results, on the one hand, in fine atomisation 

to satisfy the toughest painting demands, and 

on the other hand, in significantly reduced 

overspray thanks to the low pressure. This 

process reduces loss of material particles which 

means that up to 30% of material can be saved. 

The XVLP system’s wide range of applications 

and user-friendly operation will appeal even 

to painters who are not yet using spraying 

systems, as well as to professionals looking for a 

reliable spraying system for daily on-site use in 

renovation projects of up to 50 square meters. 

Part 2: XVLP – easy to use 

In addition to paints and varnish, the XVLP 

system also enables interior wall paints to be 

applied effortlessly. This is possible thanks to 

the Click & Paint system and to three spray 

attachments which are tailored to the different 

materials and differ mainly in terms of the nozzle 

shape. For example, high-viscosity materials 

are applied using the Visco slot nozzle while 

low-viscosity paints are applied using the round 

nozzle. So the device can be quickly adapted to 

suit the paint material.

Coating internal walls 

The WallSpray attachment is ideal when 

coating internal walls. The surfaces are prepared 

in a similar way to classic paint applications using 

brushes and rollers as long as the device settings 

are optimally adjusted to the requirements of 

the paint material. For this reason, the surface 

specialist, WAGNER, recommends carrying out 

a test on a piece of cardboard before spraying 

the walls. In this way, the width of the spray 

jet and the volume of air and material can be 

adjusted to your personal working speed, and 

you can find the ideal setting, producing as little 

overspray as possible

It may be necessary to dilute the paint 

material. It is even simpler to use a material 

that has already been tested by the device 

manufacturer. Users can find material test 

reports for each device at www.wagner-group. 

com/sprayguide . In addition to optimum 

device settings, information about whether or 

not, and how, to dilute the material can also be 

found there. 

To ensure even application of the paint, 

always move the spray gun at an equal distance 

and vertically in relation to the wall. A distance 

of 15 to 20 cm is ideal for wall paints.

Move the gun evenly, either horizontally or 

vertically, over the wall surface. While doing so, 

make sure that the sprayed stripes overlap slightly. 

Cross-coating is ideal; to change spray levels, simply 

turn the nozzle 90 degrees. 

Corners and edges can easily be sprayed during 

the work flow which is a significant advantage 

compared to using brushes and rollers when they 

need to be pre-coated. If only coating one wall or 

spraying around a door or window, experienced 

users can achieve accurate edges using a piece of 

cardboard as a protective cover, without any need 

for masking. 

When taking a break, the material container can 

be opened slightly to prevent overpressure from 

building up. Before use, simply tighten back up again 

and continue spraying.

Spraying paints and varnishes 

The StandardSpray attachment, included in the 

scope of delivery, is used for applying paint, while 

the FineSpray attachment is used to apply varnishes 

and extremely low-viscosity materials. To ensure 

that the paint adheres well, lightly sand the object 

to be coated. Depending on the material, the ideal 

spraying distance is between 3 and 20 cm. Start by 

coating corners, edges and recesses before applying 

the material to the surfaces. 

Start spraying away from the object to be 

sprayed and do the same when changing direction 

to avoid creating thicker layers of material. Since 

paint applied too thickly can cause drips, it is 

better to spray thinly twice than too thickly once; 

this improves surface quality. After spraying, allow 

the paint or varnish to dry in accordance with the 

manufacturer’s instructions.

Particularly with paint surfaces, the XVLP 

technology generates an extremely fine spray 

pattern which it is not possible to achieve with 

brushes and rollers. In addition, coating using the 

fine spray system makes the surface clearly more 

resistant to environmental influences. Repair jobs 

can be achieved quickly and easily on pre-sprayed 

surfaces as the texture remains consistent. 

After each use, thoroughly rinse the spray 

attachment with water 

or a solvent. The device 

manufacturer also 

recommends regularly 

lubricating the nozzle seal 

and using a brush to remove 

any remaining paint after 

each use.

Adapter is a very userfriendly 

addition which 

enables paints to be applied 

directly from the original 

container. The adapter can 

be screwed easily onto 

each of the different XVLP 

spraying attachments.

When working with the Can Adapter, there is 

no need to transfer the material into the spray 

attachment container, and opened paint can be 

stored in the original container. 

The main advantage for professional users is 

that this system saves an enormous amount of time 

compared to applying materials by hand with a 

brush or roller.

TOP APPRENTICES READY TO 

CONTEST NATIONAL TITLE 

THE NAMES have been revealed of the talented 

apprentices who’ll battle it out to be crowned 

best painter and decorator in the country. 

The annual Crown Trade Apprentice Decorator 

of the Year competition promotes emerging talent 

by acting as a showcase for skills. 

Heats are held throughout the UK and eight 

students have now emerged to compete for the 

national title and a £1,000 first prize. 

The three-day event will take place at The Skills 

Show, one of the biggest events in the painting 

and decorating calendar, to be held at the NEC in 

Birmingham on November 17-19. 

And three of the finalists will know precisely 

what to expect as they’ll be making their second 

successive appearance on the big stage. 

Stefan Hubble, Ryan Chamberlain and Amanda 

Conner narrowly missed out in last year’s final 

which was won by Ben Deer, from Dorset. 

Stefan, the former Vision West Nottinghamshire 

College student, now working full-time for 

Sharpline Decorators in Mansfield, is hoping to go 

one better this time. 

The 27-year-old said: “I was runner-up last 

year and was pleased I did so well, but I was 

very nervous which didn’t help. Hopefully, that 

experience will help me in this year’s final. 

“I did really well at college and won through 

the regional heat, so I know I have the skills – it’s 

just a matter of applying them in the right way. 

“If I can do that, I’ve got a big chance, but 

I’ve no doubt there’ll be seven other contestants 

thinking the same thing. 

“The competition is fantastic as it encourages 

apprentices to show their skills on a national 

stage. I’m delighted to be in the final again and 

really looking forward to it.” 

Third year Shrewsbury College of Art & 

Technology student Amanda, aged 25, from 

Telford, has set her sights on victory too. 

She said: “I feel a lot more confident this year, 

mainly because I know roughly what to expect, 

and I think I have a real shot at the title. 

“My speed let me down a little last year, so I’ll 

be more aware of my timings and it should be ok. 

“I want to do a heritage course, which will 

give me the chance to maintain stately homes 

and vintage cottages, or set up a painting and 

decorating business with my dad and this 

competition will help me along the way.” 

Ryan, aged 20, from Ushaw Moor in Durham, 

has just finished a Level Three NVQ at New 

College in the county. 

He said: “Last year’s final was an amazing 

experience. I met a lot of new people, learned 

new tricks of the trade and it’s great to be 


involved again. 

“I know what to expect this time and I think 

that might help me, but I’ll just do my best.” 

But the final will be a first for the likes of 

Jessica Heath, who’s about to start her third 

year at Barnsley College where she’s also an 

apprentice. 

The 19-year-old, from Huddersfield, said: “I 

found the heat quite challenging and I’m sure the 

final will be even tougher, but it’s good fun. 

“I didn’t have anyone to train me for the 

competition, so I did well to come through it. I’m 

not too sure how I’ll get on, but it should be a 

great experience.” 

Another of the finalists is Philip Orme, from 

Devonport in Plymouth. 

The 24-year-old attends City College in 

Plymouth and works for a company called 

Decorative Finishes in the city. 

He said: “I’m really excited to be taking part in 

a fantastic competition at a national level. 

“The heat was tough enough and I know I’ll be 

up against stiff competition, but I’ll definitely give 

it my best shot. 

“I’m hoping it could be a springboard for me 

and my ambition to run my own business one day.” 

Patrick Dinham, from Penrith in Cumbria, also 

believes the competition will provide a boost to 

his career. 

The 20-year-old completed a Level Two NVQ at 

Carlisle College in June and has been with Sissons 

Decorators in Penrith for two and a half years. 

He said: “The competition has already been a 

great experience and the final will help develop 

my skills and knowledge in the trade even further. 

“I hope to one-day start a business with my 

brother and I’m sure this will help me along 

the way.” 

Ayla Foulis, aged 24, is feeling confident of her 

chances in the final. 

The third year Fife College apprentice, from 

Dunfermline, said: “I found the heat pretty 

straight forward to be honest. 

“I was in another competition previously so I 

kind of know what to expect. I think I can do well 

in the final, but we’ll see. 

“Winning it would be a fantastic stepping 

stone for me. I’m thinking of taking an interior 

design course in future and want to set up on my 

own one day.” 

Lewys Rawlings, from Wrexham, a student at 

Coleg Cambria in North East Wales, makes up the 

final eight. 

Competitors in each regional heat were 

challenged to complete three complex tasks 

designed to test the quality of their technique and 

time management. 

Kevin O’Donnell, Product Trainer at Crown 

Paints and Crown Trade Apprentice Decorator 

of the Year Competition Manager, said: “This 

year’s project created a true test of skills, time 

management and ability to work under pressure. 

“It required a great deal of skill and the 

expertise of those who have made the final really 

shone through. 

“They’ll need to reproduce that great work and 

more to win the title because the quality of the 

competition has been very high and there’ll be 

some excellent talent on show.” 

The Skills Show is an influential training and 

careers event featuring more than 50 trade-based 

competitions in which the ‘best of the best’ in 

each sector battle for the national title. 

The annual event, which attracted almost 

80,000 visitors last year, is also the route to the 

acclaimed ‘Skills Olympics’ – Worldskills - which 

takes place every two years. 

Mr O’Donnell added: “The finalists will need all

of their powers of concentration for the final. 

“For apprentices at the start of their career, the 

pressure is immense as they’ll be in the spotlight for 

three days and undertaking an even more complex 

project which must be completed in 19 hours. 

“But they’ve already shown the potential to 

perform at the highest level of their trade and it’s 

a huge chance for them to show their skills to a 

huge audience.”

THE STEP TO GREATER EFFICIENCY 

HAS NEVER BEEN SO SMALL 

PAINTING jobs become easier thanks to 

airless sprayers in three ways: work goes much 

faster, finish work is noticeably better and it is 

far less fatiguing. 

An airless sprayer utilises a pump rather than 

compressed air – hence the name ‘airless’. The 

paint is pumped directly from a can or bucket, 

and then is pushed by the pump through the 

small opening in the spray nozzle. This creates a 

fan-shaped spray pattern of small droplets that 

allows you to apply the paint much faster than 

with a paint brush or roller. An airless device 

enables flawless application of paint, ensuring a 

very smooth and attractive finish. 

Painting with an airless device is less tiring. 

New paint doesn’t have to be added constantly, 

as with traditional tools. Also, there is no strain 

on the painter’s wrists and shoulders so they 

don’t hurt at the end of the day.

EVER wondered what makes Dunlop Pro 

Décor fillers and smoothers stand out from 

the crowd? 

Dunlop Pro Décor, unlike other brands, 

utilises ground-breaking Hydroloc 

technology to help decorators achieve a 

superior finish in a faster time than ever

PAINTS CAN DO MORE THAN DECORATE 

PAINTS and coatings are 

everywhere; from the wing of an 

aircraft to the wall of your home. 

Aesthetics and decoration can 

make a difference both at home 

and in the work environment 

but this is only one function 

of coatings; you may have 

condensation problems. Residual 

damp and water staining. 

Damp and condensation are 

common problems in a wide range 

of properties; Housing Associations, 

Leisure Centers, Schools, Industrial 

Premises and Domestic Properties 

all suffer to some extent. There 

are several methods to control the 

problems, but ideally one needs to 

discover the source of the problem. 

Then it can be treated using the 

correct control method, let’s say 

an anti-damp or anti condensation 

coating in a ‘belt and braces’ 

approach to the problem. We hope 

the information given will help 

understand the issues involved. 

Damp and Staining 

Help prevent damp and mould 

in cellars or areas prone to residual 

moisture problems using an Antidamp 

paint. The product is based 

on low odour oil based resins 

that restrict water movement. 

The dry film contains an additive 

which, when wet, reacts to form a 

water screen within the dry paint 

film. In addition, unsightly mould 

is deterred by a film protecting 

agent. Obviously a paint film will 

not solve the original cause of 

dampness, be it a leak or other 

water ingress, but it will solve 

many of the associated problems. 

It is available in White and will 

dry with a slight “finish”; it is not 

completely “Matt”. Ideal on cellars, 

outbuildings, low rooms, kitchen & 

bathroom areas prone to dampness. 

If required it can be subsequently 

over-coated with both water based 

and solvent based systems. 

We would always recommend 

analysis to discover the root 

cause of the problem, but, both 

Anti damp and Anti condensation 

paints are a useful tool to have 

in the battle against dampness 

and condensation. Even in these 

modern days where ‘one coat 

of one paint does everything’, 

they should continue to be an 

integral part of every decorator’s 

emergency kit.

The Birmingham Rock Up, an indoor climbing centre, will open 

this summer after Wondertex helped create their exhilarating 

climbing walls and challenges.

all the drylining of the new centre’s 26 climbs,

different to the average walls normally tackled

HANDY TOOL KIT MAKES FOR SUPER-FAST AND 

SURE DRYROD INSTALLATION

can then be hidden by repointing with
