CARVETTI
For all you culture vultures out there, CARVETTI presents an eclectic
stage, featuring mellow yellow acoustic sets during the day, to pulsing
brass ensembles and cabaret well into the night. Also host to spoken
word, poetry, lectures, and Q&As from keynote speakers and even
a pop-up cinema throughout the day, Carvetti has something for
everyone. If you fancy some reflection and a bit of relaxation too, make
Carvetti your number one destination this weekend.
PONYLAND
Funk and Cumbria are two things that don’t normally go together
(unless, that is, a certain Mr Craig Charles is in town). Made up of eight
people from across Cumbria and Newcastle, PONYLAND bring a
heady assortment of drum and bass, samba, Afrobeat, jazz and reggae
to the Carvetti Stage. Made up of professional musicians, including two
drummers and a mighty brass section, they’re always a joy to take in.
Expect nothing but good vibes, unrepentant energy, undeniable groves,
and some dashing #IntoTheWild animal masks.
FRIDAY | 21:30 – 22:30
CRAKE
Made up of singer-songwriter Rowan Sandle, with backing from long
standing members of the Leeds indie scene (members of Mi Mye,
The Spills and Esper Scout), CRAKE brings their own delicate sound
to Carvetti. Having released their debut EP, By The Slime Mould,
earlier this year, Crake’s music is made up of lyrics reflecting on the
natural world, as well as darker subject materials, carefully embraced
in tranquil and delicate guitar work. The result is something both
thoughtful and heart-warming.
SATURDAY | 17:45 – 18:15
DAVE VINEY PRESENTS...
WILD THINGS: POETS LET LOOSE
Acclaimed performance poet DAVE VINEY returns to Carvetti with
another collection of amazing spoken word artists – the results will be
funny, sweary, poignant and mesmerising. Embracing our #IntoTheWild
theme, don’t expect any poems about the countryside or flowers. The
much acclaimed TONY WALSH and his beautiful ode to Manchester This
Is The Place make an appearance, while he and Viney will also be joined
by renowned poets GENEVIEVE WALSH and LOUISE FAZACKERLEY.
If you fancy something a bit different and with plenty of punch, Poets Let
Loose is the one for you.
FRIDAY | 15:30 – 17:30
POP UP PUPPET CINEMA PRESENTS JAWS
The best way to describe POP UP PUPPET CINEMA is like Punch
and Judy colliding with Hollywood. PUPC condense classic films into
live puppet shows, mocking the originals with plenty of warmth and
admiration. After performing Raiders Of The Lost Ark at last year’s
Kendal Calling, the team return with the mouth-watering offer of
JAWS! Expect puppets to take on Spielberg’s classic vision of a seaside
town terrorised, a heroic salty seadog, an out-of-their-depth policeman
and a giant mechanical supersized shark. All together now: “We’re
going to need a bigger boat!”
SUNDAY | 17:00 – 17:20
