worked at the previous law firm, I
never saw my daughter. I would leave
in the morning when she was asleep
and return home 30 minutes before
her bedtime. I didn't want to raise
my children that way. Family is very
important to me."
Chris’ clients are like family to him
as well. He is very selective in which
cases he takes and is not looking to
have a huge law firm. "When you run a
low volume practice like I have chosen
to do, you can pick your clients, and so
I love my clients, they are like family
to me. I feel for them and the pain and
suffering they are experiencing. I am
available to them, and they know they
can call me whenever they need to. In
a large law firm, you cannot possibly
give your clients this level of attention."
"When someone hires me to say
I take it seriously would be an understatement.
I know that this person
could have hired anyone and they
chose me, so I feel a real responsibility
to do everything I can for them to
make sure they get the absolute best
lawyer that they deserve."
Chris’ clients will attest to this.
When describing Chris words like
caring, compassionate, and empathetic
are often heard, but the comment that
says it all was from one of his recent
clients who simply said. “Chris Walton
is a truly amazing attorney.”
Chris, who has spent the majority
of his professional life operating his
firm out of an office in downtown San
Diego recently made a move to the
Carmel Valley/Del Mar area. Their
beautiful new office makes it easier
for clients to visit them, and allows
Chris more time with his family and
less time in downtown traffic. “I see
more clients in three weeks at our
Carmel Valley location than I saw in
a full year at our downtown location.”
With easily accessible free parking and
a simple commute from most areas
getting to Chris’ office is much easier
for his clients. Along with making
the move, Chris also hired their first
8
associate. “Having another attorney in
the office allows us to be available to
answer every call that comes in. Even
if a potential client calls in with a case
that isn’t the right fit for our firm, we
will answer any questions and provide
information to point the potential
client in the right direction.”
With a reputation as a "nice guy"
fighting for the little guy, how does
Chris make the transition to tough guy
when going head to head with these
big corporate attorneys. "I tell young
lawyers all the time just be yourself
when you litigate. You don't have to
yell and scream or become a total jerk.
If you have a great client and build
your case the right way to make sure
the opposing counsel knows you are
never going away, so they have only
one choice to pay or take the ultimate
risk and put the choice in the hands of
a jury.”
Walton Law handles all types of
personal injury cases, anyone injured
due to someone else’s negligence, or
intentional behavior. These include
car accidents, premises accidents, or
product liability. Chris’ niche area is
nursing home and elder abuse work
including financial elder abuse.
The favorite part of being a lawyer
for Chris is similar to his 11-year-old
self. "My favorite part of what I do
is standing up for what I believe in.
Helping people through very difficult
times and having them know that I am
there to hold people accountable when
they make purely financial decisions
which negatively affect those they are
there to protect and watch over."
I asked Chris if he could share
with our readers some tips or insight
on how they can be sure these type of
negative events don’t end up affecting
them or their loved ones. He shared
the following:
• “If you suspect abuse or neglect at
a nursing home where, a relative lives,
your first step would be to talk to the
facilities administrator. If this does
not help then talk to the department
of public health, there is always an
ombudsman who can jump in and
find out what’s going on. If that gets
you nowhere go to the police.”
• “We don’t charge people to call
into the firm. You should always understand
your legal rights. We don’t
push people into signing on with our
firm, so call in if you are concerned
with things going on in a nursing
home. Also, keep in mind that if you
are involved in a car accident, call
us before you speak to anyone either
involved in the accident or any of
their insurance or legal representatives.
Do not settle. No one need be
afraid to speak to someone at this
firm. Even if we can't take the case,
we will give you some important
information to help. By the end of
the phone conversation, you will be
more informed and able to deal with
your situation.”.
