CART PATH SAFETY
Please be aware of the safety hazards involved in trespassing
onto the Sterling Country Club and Houston National cart paths
and golf course. The cart paths on both courses are only for golfers
that have registered through our Pro Shop. Cart paths are a means
for players to complete their round of golf as quickly, conveniently
and safely as possible. As the Stone Gate community continues to
grow we feel it is our responsibility to educate every resident as
best we can to keep pedestrians and their pets safe and away
from the cart paths. Golf balls are often hit at speeds over 150 mph
and can have deadly consequences to a human or pet if hit in the
head, throat or chest. Because the paths are for registered golfers,
those playing golf are not aware of the presence of pedestrians on
the course, which can lead to very damaging collisions with hikers/
bikers and their pets. This January I fielded a report of a pedestrian
being struck by a golf ball and other reports of residents having near
miss encounters with golf carts when traveling along the paths.
Hiking, jogging, biking, dog walking, golf cart/atv’s not being
used to play golf, skateboarding and skating on the cart paths is
strictly prohibited on the basis of safety hazard and trespassing
concerns. Thanks for your cooperation!
BEWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS
Remember, we do live in a big city. We have all the elements here and
we have people looking to take advantage of people they perceive as
victims. If a crime is going to occur, the offender must have three things
to accomplish the task: desire, ability and opportunity. Personally, there
is not much that you can do about the offender’s desire and ability.
However, you can take steps to control the offender’s opportunity.
• BE AWARE of your surroundings! Giving the appearance of not paying
attention and not being alert is what offenders look for in a victim. Turn
off your ipod/headphones or cell phone to reduce your risk of being a
crime victim.
August 2017 | Stone Gate
• You should never walk alone! However, if you must walk alone, have a
plan and choose open well lighted and well traveled areas.
• When walking you should walk facing traffic. Do not read while walking
or standing on the street. Be cautious of drivers that stop to talk to you or
are not paying attention to the road.
• Avoid being on the street alone if you are upset or distracted.
• Always tell someone where you’ll be and what time you are going to
return.
• If you think you are being followed: cross the street, change directions,
keep looking back so the person knows you can’t be surprised. Look for a
crowded area and move quickly.
• TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS: If something “feels wrong”, something
probably is wrong.
• If you find yourself in a situation with an assailant, don’t be afraid to
loudly call attention to what the assailant is doing (“Help!” “Fire!” “Get
your hands off me!” “This stranger is bothering me...”, etc.).
• Report suspicious persons to the police immediately!
• Keep emergency numbers near your phone.
• Do not leave messages on your door or voice mail, etc., indicating you
are away or when you will return.
• Be cautious of telephone surveys and NEVER... give out any personal
information.
• Do not prop open doors or gates. This will put everyone at risk.
• Always LOCK your doors, garage and windows.
• Keep access cards, keys and remotes in a safe place. Do not leave them
lying out in the open. Never leave them on a table or shelf near your door.
It takes less than 10 seconds to look into your open door and steal items
from a table or shelf near the door.
CRIME PREVENTION TIPS AND LINKS
School is out so that means there will be more kids out to create mischief.
Please remember to lock your car doors. Most, if not all, of the Burglary
of Motor Vehicles in our area last month came from unlocked cars. Also, if
you see anything suspicious, please call the Constables right away. Even
if it turns out to be nothing, they would rather check it out to keep the
neighborhood safe. Every now and again, something that people may
think is nothing, has actually turned into something. I have attached 3
helpful links below: The first is for the Vacation Watch. When the residents
leave for vacation, they can fill out the form and as part of their normal
duties, the Constables will drive by and check on their residence.
www.constablepct5.com/vacation-watch
The second is for a Special Watch. If there is something going on around the
resident’s house and they want the Constables to keep an extra eye out or
want a little extra patrol, they can fill this form out and we can take care of it.
www.constablepct5.com/special-watch
Finally is the online crime tips. If there is a crime tip that you have, you
can fill this out and the Constable’s office will look into it.
STREET PARKING
We have received numerous complaints from residents about people
parking in the streets. Please be advised that the S-G Owners Association
will begin placing orange violation stickers on vehicles that are in
violation of the parking policy. Per the Parking Policy, vehicles may
only be parked on the street during daylight hours, when the driveway
can hold no additional vehicles. This does include your guests/nanny,
babysitter, home healthcare provider, etc. Commercially marked larger
vehicles like; Comcast, AT&T, Entouch, landscaper, etc., may park in front
of the home they are providing a service call for, if this is the homeowner’s
vehicle, it may not be stored in the community. In addition, no overnight
parking is permitted. Towing will be enforced in the gated sections. We
encourage you to ensure that your vehicles are properly parked and/or
make proper parking arrangements. We thank you for your cooperation
and understanding. The Owners Association understands there may be
extenuating circumstances which arise from time to time, please contact
Tamara Paul, your On-Site Manager; tpaul@pmghouston.com to request
a special accommodation for your household. ~ S-G Owners Association
RULES OF THE ROAD FOR
S-G OWNER’S ASSOCIATION
This is a reminder…. The operation of motorized vehicles (ATV’s, dirt
bikes, golf carts, etc.) other than mowing equipment on pathways
or trails maintained by the Association or any other Common Area
within the community is not allowed.
According to the Texas department of public safety:
• ATV’s are not allowed on a street and an operator crossing a street must
have a valid driver’s license.
• Golf carts are allowed on roads, but must obey all traffic laws
including speed limits. If operated on a road the golf cart must have
a license plate and the driver must have a valid driver’s license and
proof of insurance.
• Mopeds and motor assisted scooters are treated as regular bicycles. All
vehicles used on roads must obey traffic laws including stop signs and
speed limits. For additional information on this subject go to www.txdps.
state.tx.us/msb/pages/Electric.htm.
DID YOU KNOW…. ATV’s and Golf Carts on common areas of the
community require your money to repair these areas when damaged.
TENNIS COURTS
The Association kindly asks that residents refrain from using the tennis
courts for anything other than playing tennis. Playing basketball, football
and/or other activities can cause damage to the tennis courts making it
unavailable for other residents to use and creating costly repairs.
DEED RESTRICTION REMINDERS
DOGS: Please remember barking can be a nuisance to your neighbors. Do
your best to be respectful of the noise level on your property. Pets must
be kept on a leash when walking and don’t forget pick up after them.
LOUD NOISE/MUSIC: Domestic neighbor noise, such as DIY work or loud
music, is the most common cause of noise complaint. It is advisable to
take steps to resolve the problem yourself before filing a complaint with
the management company, such as speaking face-to-face or writing a
letter to your neighbor to explain how you are affected. If you have been
unable or not felt comfortable with resolving a problem with domestic
neighbor noise, please call Top Gun at 281-905-2522 or 713-907-2744, so
they may ask your neighbor to lower the noise.
TRASH: As a friendly reminder trash days are on Mondays and Thursdays
for Stone Gate and Wednesdays and Saturdays for Canyon Lakes West.
TREES: Dead trees and/or missing trees are a violation of your deed
restrictions. If tree stakes are not attached to the tree or if the ties are
an inch or two into the tree - they need to be removed. Thank you for
helping to keep our community a beautiful place to live!
FISHING IN THE LAKES: Not permitted at any time. Please refrain from
this activity.
BASKETBALL GOALS IN STREET: While basketball goals are permitted in
your driveway while being used, they are not allowed in the streets. Please
refrain from blocking the ingress/egress of traffic or emergency vehicles.
August 2017 | Stone Gate
TRASH CANS: Please be sure to keep all garbage in a proper receptacle
with a securable lid to prevent pets and/or wind from creating a mess in
our community. Trash cans must also be kept sanitary and out of public/
street view in-between trash pickup days. Residents are permitted to
set their trashcan(s) out after 6 PM the evening before their respective
trash pickup days, but they must be out of public/street view the same
day of pickup. The Association would also like to remind residents not to
litter. Please join our efforts in keeping Stone Gate, Canyon Lakes West
and Miramesa a beautiful place to live by disposing of your trash in the
proper waste receptacles.
AMENITIES: Stone Gate, Canyon Lakes West and Miramesa share
amenities. All residents are welcome to utilize all amenities. The finger
reader is for Canyon Lakes West and Miramesa amenities ONLY. Stone
Gate will continue to have access card readers. As a reminder, all guests
MUST BE ACCOMPANIED by a RESIDENT (18 or older) to use the facilities.
PET REMINDERS
Due to increased reports of dog attacks and dog bites in the community,
the Association would like to remind residents to keep your pets on a
lease at all times. ALL pets including cats must be leased AT ALL TIMES.
There are leash laws in place by for the community as well as the county.
We ask that you help keep the community safe by keeping your pet on
the leash while out walking in the community and to remember to clean
up after them.
DOG WALKING ETIQUETTE
Good dog-walking etiquette means picking up the poop after your dog is
finished. This is as simple as taking a plastic grocery bag, turning it inside
out and placing your hand inside and using the bag as a plastic glove,
then turn the bag back out and take the bag with you where you can
dispose of it properly. That’s the courteous thing to do.
Don’t get caught without extra poop bags, particularly if you’re going on a
long walk. (P.S. This is a great way to recycle all those plastic grocery bags!)
Stone Gate Community has had many loose dogs & cats lately. Please do
your part to keep your animals safe and contained on your property.
Please Control Your Pets!
It is a deed restriction violation if your pets are not confined to a fenced
backyard or within your home. They must not be allowed to bark all
night or cause a nuisance to your neighbors. They must also be on a
leash at all times when not in a contained environment. It is also the pet
owner’s responsibility to keep ALL areas of the community FREE from pet
debris when walking your pets. Please remember that cats must also be
confined. Animal Control can be reached at 281-999-3191.
If you happen to come across vicious dogs or ANY loose dogs of this
nature, please contact your local Animal Control at 281-999-3191. If you
are familiar with the property address the pets belong to, please feel free
to submit that information to PMG - Emma Deatherage edeatherage@
pmghouston.com - to pursue the deed restriction violation. Notification
and ample time must be given to the owner to correct the violation prior
to any further pursuit by the Association. Remember that all pets should
always wear a collar with ID tag! Pet owners should also consider pet
microchips for identification in case your pet looses their collar/ID tag.
LET US KEEP OUR
NEIGHBORHOODS LITTER FREE!
Take responsibility for yourself & be a good neighbor! Keep our streets &
neighborhood trash & litter free! Make it a habit, be a good neighbor & do
your part! If each person did their own part (around the outside of their
home, including their little stretch of street in front of their house), what
a better place this would be to live! A clean environment/neighborhood
makes people feel good about themselves. They will keep it clean. Some
need to be reminded. Others need to be continually reminded. It takes
time to change habits. Keeping your neighborhood clean is a habit that
takes conscious effort.
TEXAS SALES TAX HOLIDAY: AUGUST 11-13, 2017
This year’s Sales Tax Holiday is Aug. 11th-13th. As in previous years, the
law exempts most clothing, footwear, school supplies and backpacks
priced less than $100 from sales and use taxes, which could save
shoppers about $8 on every $100 they spend. Be wise! Here are some
tips on maximizing this savings event:
• Compare prices at different stores, which you can do online
• Use coupons - in addition to the tax-free savings - whenever possible
• If you’re using a business account to purchase your tax-free items,
have an exemption certificate to prove you’re shopping for a student
• Shop for more than just back-to-school items, like office supplies and
work clothes or work uniforms
CFISD MENTOR
The CFISD Mentor Program is a cooperative effort of volunteers from
businesses, faith-based and/or non-profit organizations, the community
and the school district designed to encourage students (elementary
through high school) to finish school and focus on future education and
career goals. A mentor is a suitable role model committed to helping a
student with his/her academic and social development. Mentors meet
with students one-on-one for approximately 30 minutes each week.
Currently, over 700 mentors are matched with students. Mentors must
be 18 years or older. To become a mentor, you must attend a training
session, complete a global volunteer/mentor application and consent to
a criminal history record check.
Training Sessions - Registration is REQUIRED. Register for a training
session at www.cyfairisd.formstack.com/forms/training.
If you would like to schedule mentor training at your place of business,
please contact the Community Engagement department, Leslie Francis,
Director of Marketing and Business Relations at 281-894-3950.
ROSEHILL CHRISTIAN SCHOOL
For the second year in a row, Rosehill has been a top contender for the
coveted TAPPS Henderson Cup. The Henderson Cup is a year-long contest
for “Best Overall School” in the state that takes into account all points
accumulated in sports, fine arts and academic competitions throughout
the year. After moving up from TAPPS classification 2A to 3A this season,
RCS knew that the road to the Henderson Cup would be a challenging
task and that the competition in 3A would be very strong. In 2016, RCS
was the State Runner-up in the 2A Henderson Cup sweepstakes by 15
points. For our move to 3A this year, administrators, coaches, students,
parents and teachers joined together to make a school-wide, concerted
effort to win the highly sought-after trophy. RCS collected points by
placing at the state level in a wide array of extracurricular events,
including: State Champions in Baseball (back-to-back), Cheer and Girls’
Track; State Runner-up in Vocal Music; Third place in Academics (State
Champions in Speech) and Dance; Fourth place in Band; Fifth place in One
Act Play and Art; Bi-district Champions in Girls’ Basketball and playoff
points in Volleyball. It was a groundbreaking year and even though we
crushed our point totals from the previous year, RCS ended up placing
third in the overall Henderson Cup competition by a mere three points.
This third place finish was the strongest TAPPS showing by RCS in our
school’s history. Additionally, we were State Champions for the second
year in a row in overall Fine Arts events by over a 30% margin over all
other TAPPS 3A schools. The Henderson Cup is the ultimate team event
and it demonstrates how the body of Christ works. Each part of the body
is important and together those parts serve an even greater purpose.
Though RCS came in third place in the Henderson Cup, we feel like true
winners, because we accomplished this extraordinary goal together.
Furthermore, coming so close to winning will only make us stronger and
more unified as we look to the 2017-18 season.
Besides the Henderson Cup, TAPPS also recognizes the top coaches and
male and female competitors in the state in Athletics and Fine Arts. These
elite honors are extremely difficult to receive, as all TAPPS schools can
nominate competitors from any sport or fine art and the top individuals
in the state are then voted on by an executive TAPPS panel. We are
pleased to announce, that for only the third time in school history, the
TAPPS 3A State Fine Arts Female Student of the Year is our own Ashley
Alexander. Ashley’s 2016-17 TAPPS accomplishments are undeniable:
State Champion in Original Oratory (Speech); State Runner-up In Ready
Writing and 5 th Place in Literary Criticism (Academics); Gold Medal in
Instrumental Piano Solo (Class I); State Champion in Black & White
Photography (Art); State All-Star Crew for One Act Play and she even
served as a state accompanist for TAPPS Vocal Music, not to mention
her TAPPS accolades throughout her high school career in these same
disciplines. Furthermore, Ashley has accomplished all of this while
earning the title of RCS Valedictorian, with a smile on her face and the
love of Jesus in her heart, shining through to everyone who meets her.
We are so proud of you, Ashley! RCS loves you and we cannot wait to see
how God uses all of your talents as you set sail for the next stage of your
journey. Congratulations!
Girl Scout Cadettes, Faith Wong and Grace Wong, are concerned about
the increasing number of dogs roaming neighborhoods - many ending
up in euthanizing shelters. To help with non-euthanizing efforts, Faith
Silver Award Project (the highest honor of a Girl Scout Cadette), they are
planning organizing and executing the Shoe Drive with AARF Houston
