The Lavender Line is a preserved railway that boasts
a fantastic family atmosphere in the heart of East
Sussex. The railway travels for a two mile round
located in the Parish of Little Horsted. At Isfield
you will find the headquarters of the Lavender Line
which includes our original Victorian station and
signal box.
Come and enjoy the sights and sounds of a
News
Hello and welcome to the September edition
of the Wivelsfield News.
Welcome also to anyone new to the Parish, or
to reading the News, including the Reverend
Christopher Powell and his family. Until recently
Christopher was Rector of Clayton with Keymer.
Christopher will be inducted as our new vicar
on the 22nd September with the service being
led by the Bishop of Horsham. We hope that he
and his family – and any other newcomers to the
Parish – will be very happy here.
In this edition we have information about a
forthcoming comedy presented by Wivelsfield
Little Theatre, details of the Community
Speedwatch Scheme and information about our
County Councillor, Jim Sheppard. It may be a little
early to start thinking about Christmas for many
of us, but for those planning Christmas events,
organisation is already in full swing. Please
therefore forgive the inclusion of a couple of
Christmas event-related articles in this magazine.
Quarterly magazines being what they are, it
would be too late to leave them to bring to
your attention in the December edition.
Please also look out for our regular pages,
including a planning round-up, contact
details for your local councillors, groups and
organisations, and details of forthcoming events.
I have been thrilled to have people starting to
ask to have articles or events included in the
News – it is lovely to have a diverse range of
groups and organisations showcasing what
they do, and highlighting what a vibrant,
varied and welcoming community we are
part of. Please continue to send me details of
upcoming events and, if you have an idea for a
particular feature you’d like to see, let me know.
The summer again saw a successful Village Day,
blessed with dry and sunny weather. The wind
proved something of a challenge, but the day
was well-attended and enjoyed, beginning with
an extremely well-supported ‘carnival’ themed
parade. The Parish Council would like to extend
its thanks, on behalf of the community, to the
small group of residents who work tirelessly to
make this event happen.
Best wishes,
Letter from
the ChairmaN
Hello again. It’s hard to believe we’re three quarters of the way through the year.
Where does the time go?
Community Speedwatch
I’d like to draw your attention to the article in
this edition about our Community Speedwatch
initiative. organised by John Wigzell, this
community driven initiative is looking for
volunteers to spare a few hours once a month
to monitor the speed of vehicles through the
village. With the increase in the volume of
traffic, and in particular goods vehicles serving
the Cala development site, this initiative is most
worthwhile. I, for one, have put my hand up to
take part and I hope you will too.
Wanted: New Councillors
Seriously, we need more people like you to join
the Parish Council. If you are willing to give
up a few hours each month to be involved in
matters ranging from planning applications,
supporting our clubs and societies, maintaining
the green & playground, street lighting etc…
then do please contact us at the Clerk’s office.
It is a rewarding experience and not as time
consuming as you might imagine.
CouNCillor
Councillor Jim Sheppard
I have lived in Sussex for many years but was born
and brought up in West Ham, a team I still support.
My wife Jean and I moved to Haywards Heath
in 1982 and then to Plumpton Green in 1986
the year our daughter Laura was born. We
moved to Newick in 1992 and our daughter
attended Newick Primary School and Chailey
Comprehensive.
My wife who was a teacher, taught at Newick for
a while and at other schools in the area.
I started my career as a ladies hairdresser
working for my father in his salon in Crawley and
then went into the insurance industry working
for Pearl Assurance.
I was asked if I would stand for election as
8
District Councillor for Newick when the standing
councillor retired and was elected in 2004.
I was then asked if I would consider standing
for the County election in 2013, I said I would
and was elected in 2013 as County Councillor
for Newick Wivelsfield, Plumpton, Chailey and
Ditchling. I will stand again for election next May.
I was a member of the Cabinet on Lewes District
Council responsible for Waste & Recycling
and during my time I introduced the weekly
collection of food waste. We were at that time
also looking into the collection of garden waste,
this is still being considered. I am no longer on
the Cabinet but am adamant that Lewes District
should always continue with a weekly waste
collection from your door.
As a part of my County responsibilities I
have been appointed to the East Sussex Fire
and Rescue Authority. This entails sitting on
committees that decide on such things as the
possible merger with the Police and moving
headquarters from Eastbourne to share premises
with the Police in Lewes, a cost saving exercise.
The moving premises has been decided but the
merger with the Police is still a very hot potato
with the Police and Fire Fighters Unions.
I have also been appointed as the County
representative on the South Downs National
Park. The main activity I get involved with is
Planning. Lewes District is designated as the
Planning Authority for many of the decisions
made within our area. I am Vice Chair of the
L.D.C. Planning Committee, every three weeks
we make decisions relating to the S.D.N.P.A.
Like Wivelsfield, Newick has been producing its
Neighbourhood Plan. I fully supported the plan
and my wife who is a Newick Parish Councillor
sat on the Steering Committee. The Plan was
“made” (adopted) in July 2015.
If elected again next year I look forward to
serving as your County Councillor and working
with your Parish Council for another four years.

Wivelsfield Mediaeval Nativity Play
Sunday 27 November – thursday 1 December 2016
When Wivelsfield first produced a mediaeval
Nativity Play in the parish church in 2003 noone
thought that it might become a regular
feature in the amateur theatre calendar. And
yet it’s back this year for the sixth time since
that first presentation (see diary of events).
Are you having problems
If you’ve lost power in your
with your fuse box at home,
call Amber AC Ltd now.
01273 890 010 | 01892 664 065
Why has it proved so popular? Why have some
people been to all five of the previous shows?
Why do people travel long distances to see it?
For a start it is vastly different from any other
Nativity Play you are likely to have seen. Put
together from three of the Mystery Plays of the
Middle Ages, it is a story of ordinary human
beings, a baby in danger, a family of refugees
and a tyrant bent on killing perceived rivals.
Sounds almost contemporary doesn’t it!
And yet the story is told with tenderness,
realism and a great deal of humour. At times
audiences have shed tears – sometimes of
mirth, sometimes of sorrow and sometimes of
anger. They see Joseph angrily turning Mary
out for becoming pregnant without him and
then the tenderness of their reconciliation.
They see Jesus born before their very eyes. They
laugh at the knockabout humour of the three
shepherds who lead them in some singing.
They smile at the Three Kings and boo Herod.
And there’s more.
All this is presented in the atmospheric setting of
an ancient church lit by around 400 candles and
with little resort to modern technology. There is
live music from an unseen choir and even a free
glass of mulled wine before the play starts.
Moreover, in the tradition of mediaeval plays,
the audience is encouraged to be part of it all –
especially when the shepherds are on. Because
the seating in the church is re-arranged the
actors can wander freely amongst them and
speak directly to them.
In 2004, Mark Gale, the then drama critic of the
Mid Sussex Times, gave Nativity four awards in
his review of the previous year, including Best
Production in the whole of Mid Sussex.
Ticket details will appear later in the year on
leaflets and posters. Keep an eye open for them
– you won’t want to miss it.
The Dixie Swim Club
Wivelsfield Little Theatre’s (WLT) autumn production for 2016 will be
“The Dixie Swim Club” by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope and Jamie Wooten.
The production dates are November 10th, 11th and 12th 2016.
Set in North Carolina, U.S.A. the play revolves
around five southern women, whose friendships
began many years ago on their college swim
team, set aside a long weekend every August
to recharge those relationships. Free from
husbands, kids and jobs, they meet at the same
beach cottage on North Carolina’s outer Banks
to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s
lives. THE DIXIE SWIM CLUB focuses on four of
those weekends and spans a period of thirtythree
years. Sheree, the spunky team captain,
desperately tries to maintain her organized and
“perfect” life, and continues to be the group’s
leader. Dinah, the wisecracking overachiever,
is a career dynamo. But her victories in
the courtroom are in stark contrast to the
frustrations of her personal life. Lexie, pampered
and outspoken, is determined to hold on to her
looks and youth as long as possible. She enjoys
being married—over and over and over again.
The self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette,
acutely aware of the dark cloud that hovers over
her life, has decided to just give in and embrace
the chaos. And sweet, eager-to-please Jeri Neal
experiences a late entry into motherhood that
takes them all by surprise. As their lives unfold
and the years pass, these women increasingly
rely on one another, through advice and raucous
repartee, to get through the challenges (men,
a wrench into one of their lives in the second
act, these friends, proving the enduring power
of “teamwork,” rally ‘round their own with
the strength and love that takes this comedy
in a poignant and surprising direction. THE
DIXIE SWIM CLUB is the story of these five
unforgettable women—a hilarious and touching
comedy about friendships that last forever.
Wivelsfield Community
Speedwatch
If people are concerned about the speed
of traffic through the village, perhaps they
would like to help monitor it, and report
any vehicles travelling at excessive speed.
If people are concerned about the speed of
traffic through the village, perhaps they would
like to help monitor it, and report any vehicles
travelling at excessive speed.
We have a Community Speedwatch team in the
village, which has a speed monitoring device
to measure traffic speeds, and can report any
vehicles breaking the speed limits to the police,
who will contact the motorists concerned, and
take appropriate action.
(Motorists will usually be given a warning in the first
instance, but repeated speed violations reported
through the Surrey and Sussex Community
Speedwatch teams can result in prosecution).
The primary aim of the Speedwatch initiative
is to show motorists using the village roads
that we are concerned to monitor speeds and
encourage people to drive safely. The high
visibility yellow jackets worn by the team when
they are monitoring can have a really good
effect in reminding everyone that they should
be observing the official speed limits at all times.
Volunteers are needed to help with the
monitoring, and it does not require a massive
commitment. We simply want people who from
time to time (perhaps once a month) are willing
to spend 30 to 45 minutes or so monitoring one
of the 4 official sites in the village where we are
permitted to operate. (one site on Green Road,
one on North Common Road, one in South
Road and one on Ditchling Road).
We work in teams of three, and it is simply a matter
of registering as a volunteer on the website (http://
www.communityspeedwatch.co.uk/), doing a bit
of training online, and then coming out with one of
the teams to put it into practice.
If you would like to help please contact the
local Speedwatch Co-ordinator, John Wigzell,
(wiggymail@btinternet.com) or the Parish
Clerk (clerk@wivelsfield.net).
What’s Happening in the Parish?
Following on from information contained within the last edition of the News, please
see below for an update on various key planning applications within the Parish...
LW/13/0147 – Land off ridge Way – ‘Greenhill
Grange’ Phase 1
Work is progressing with the first plots at the
development, as well as the Sales and Marketing
Suite and showhomes, which are due to be
launched by the end of September. All roads in
Phase 1 are fully installed and all service mains,
gas, water and electricity are complete for the
entire development. The first plots are due to be
occupied by December and Phase 1 is on course
for completion on schedule in November 2017.
This phase of the development is being managed
by Taylor Wimpey South East.
LW/16/0057 – Land West of rookhurst
House, Colwell Lane North – ‘Greenhill
Grange’ Phase 2
The Phase 2 planning application, which sought
full planning permission for 113 new homes
together with parking, amenity space and
landscaping, went before Lewes District Council’s
planning committee on 20 July 2016. The
committee resolved to approve the application
subject to the signing of a Section 106 legal
agreement. As the site entrance is within Mid
Sussex District, a separate planning application
has been submitted to MSDC and this is due to
go before the planning committee on 11 August.
Subject to planning consent, Taylor Wimpey is
anticipating starting work on Phase 2 in March
2017. This phase of the development is being
managed by Taylor Wimpey South Thames.
LW/14/0350 – Sunnybrae, Valebridge road
‘Valeside Keep’
Thakeham are preparing for the impending
launch of Valeside Keep in September 2016.
Number 1 ‘The Wiston’; a two bedroom
bungalow, is the first showhome to be completed
for the development. The main development
signage has been installed. Currently the site
team are progressing very well against the
target construction programme. Anticipated
occupations will commence from September
/ October 2016 and will cease in April 2017.
Valeside Keep is a development of 2 & 3 bedroom
bungalows, 2, 3 & 4 bedroom semi-detached and
14
detached new homes. For information please call
01403 787323 or visit www.thakeham.com
LW/14/0790 - Springfield Industrial estate,
Ditchling road – no updates received. More
information about the development will be
published when available.
LW/15/0607- Land east of Ditchling road –
Appeal ref: APP/P1425/16/3145053
The appeal for this application is to be heard
over three days, commencing on Wednesday 14
September 2016. Owing to a lack of available
accommodation in and around Wivelsfield for
these dates, the hearing will take place at the
Jubilee Christian Centre, Mill Lane, Barcombe, BN8
5TH, starting at 10am. Members of the public are
permitted to attend. Lift shares may be available.
Anyone interested in the progress of this appeal
can go to the Planning Inspectorate’s website at
https://acp.planninginspectorate.gov.uk and enter
the last seven digits of the above reference into
the ‘Search for a Case’ box to find out more.
LW/15/0752 - Land Adjoining North
Common road – ground works are well
underway and work on the show homes near
the top of the site has commenced. Cala Homes
have been facing the challenges of clearing mud
off the road during rainy spells, and damping
down the dust when it has been dry. Having
received complaints from immediate neighbours
about the amount of dust, they have redoubled
their efforts with the on-site bowsers.
A number of queries have been received
regarding the passage of construction traffic to
this site. The route that has been agreed with
East Sussex Highways and Sussex Police, is for
construction vehicles entering the site to come
from the east, across Chailey Common and those
leaving the site to travel west through the village.
Whilst it is recognised that this is not ideal, it has
been deemed the ‘least worst’ option, in order to
prevent heavy construction traffic passing on the
confines of Chailey Common. Suppliers are also
being told that deliveries should not be made
between 8.30-9am and 3-3.30pm, to avoid school
drop-off and pick-up times.

At the time of writing, we are waiting for
further signage to be erected warning drivers
approaching the site not to enter through
the village, as well as a sign near the top of
Downsview Drive warning drivers of parked cars
outside the village shop.
Should anyone have any queries regarding the
development, please contact Parish Councillor
Michelle van Bochove who has taken on the role
of liaison officer with Cala Homes.
LW/15/0827 - royal oak, Ditchling road
A formal decision notice for this application is
still awaited, pending Lewes District Council’s
receipt of a Section 106 (developer contributions)
agreement.
LW/16/0078 – Wivelsfield Primary School
The new hall extension structure is nearing
completion and internal fit-out works are in
progress. During the School summer holidays,
Sunninghill Construction are demolishing the
existing storage cupboards, diverting electrical
and heating services and laying new flooring in
advance of the School re-opening on 5 September
2016. The new classroom extension is progressing
well despite the great British summer! The brick
and block walls are nearing completion and
Sunninghill are preparing to commence the
construction of the roof over the next few weeks.
Sunninghill anticipate by December 2016 the
hall works will be complete and the classroom
extension will be decorated, awaiting final fit-out.
WIVeLSfIeLD NeIGHbourHooD PLAN –
GreAt NeWS!
As part of the Neighbourhood Plan process the
Plan has to be scrutinised by an independent
Examiner. The Wivelsfield Neighbourhood Plan
was submitted to the independent examiner,
Mr Jeremy Edge, to determine whether the
neighbourhood plan met the Basic Conditions.
As stated in the Examiner’s Report which can
be read at the link below, Mr Edge has decided
that the Wivelsfield Neighbourhood Plan meets
the Basic Conditions subject to modifications
and should proceed to a referendum. We will
work with Lewes District Council to consider
the recommendations made and a Decision
Statement will be published in due course.
The Final report has been published by Lewes
District Council and can be found on their
website at the following address: http://www.
southerN water iNvests £1.4m to
‘KEEP IT CLEAR’ iN the south east
May 2016 marked the first anniversary of Southern Water’s £1.4 million investment in a
five-year programme to keep the South East’s sewers running clear of fat, oil, grease and
other unflushables, such as wet wipes, tampons and nappies.
The ‘Keep It Clear’ campaign is aiming to raise
awareness about the fact more than 23,000
blockages occur in the 39,600KM of sewers in
Southern Water’s region every year, which can
lead to sewage backing up and spilling out
of people’s toilets, sinks or manholes and into
their homes and gardens.
About two-thirds of these blockages are
caused by fat, oil and grease (FoG) being
washed or poured down the kitchen sink, or
by unflushable items like nappies, wipes and
tampons being flushed down the toilet, instead
of being put in the bin.
Tim Bagnall, Southern Water’s Waste Services
Manager, said:
“Sewer flooding can be a really upsetting
experience for our customers, so we want to
raise awareness of what we should and shouldn’t
be putting down our sinks and toilets, in order to
keep drains and sewers flowing clear.
“our sewer pipes are much smaller than many
people think – only about 10cm (four inches) in
diameter, which is about the size of an orange
– so the only things we can safely flush down
them are the three Ps – pee, poo and paper.
“All other items, like nappies, cotton buds, wet
wipes or oil and leftover food in the kitchen,
should all go in the bin rather than down the
kitchen sink, and into drains and sewers.”
To tackle the problem of sewer flooding, a
dedicated Southern Water team is visiting
homes in 2,000 blockage ‘hotspots’ between
now and 2020 across the South East.
The teams are knocking on doors to chat to
householders about how to best dispose of
items, as well as lifting manhole covers to look
for blockages, using CCTV to inspect sewers
and using high-powered water jets to clear any
problems they find.
The campaign team is also visiting schools and
giving talks to community and business groups
to help raise awareness.
22
During the programme’s first year, the team
visited more than 7,000 homes in 378 ‘blockage
hotspots’, visited 456 restaurants, cafes and
takeaways and lifted more than 1,700 manhole
covers to look for blockages.
As part of the campaign, Southern Water’s team
of Network Protection officers are also rolling
out a programme to visit some of the 28,000
food outlets and restaurants to ensure they are
disposing of fat, oil and grease safely.
DiD YOU KNOW...?
• 95 per cent of wipes on the market are not
designed to be flushable
• Even a small blockage can cause sewage to
flood homes and gardens
• The average cost to customers by a
private drain clearance company to clear
a blockage is £85 but can be much higher
(up to around £200).
• Southern Water spends about £10 million
each year on clearing blockages.
Sewer pipes
are smaller
than you think…
Even a small blockage could cause
sewage to flood your home
The pipes in your home are just 10cm
in diameter and were only designed
to carry pee, poo and paper.
Don’t flush money
down the drain
Flushing the wrong things down the
toilet or pouring fat and oil down the
sink can cause expensive blockages.
The cost of repairs can add up to
more than £200.
Wivelsfield’s Christmas Celebrations –
‘The Spirit of Christmas’
on friday 16th December 2016 at 18:45,
Wivelsfield will be holding its second
Christmas Celebration entitled ‘the
Spirit of Christmas’.
our Christmas
festival is again being
deliberately set
against the backdrop
of our warm and
welcoming village
pub ‘The Cock Inn’.
The pub will be
serving their usual
fine spirits and seasonal food as well as festive
favourites such as mulled wine and mince pies.
We are hoping that Ridgeview Wine will be
joining us again, providing a little extra ‘fizz’ and
‘sparkle’ to the evening.
Yet again, T.W. Plummers will be providing
lorries that will move through the village with
members of the community carol singing
from the trailers and these will remain in
place outside of the pub for the evening as
they double as stages for the event. We are
very grateful to T.W. Plummers and Sons as
they are so generous to the community of
Wivelsfield and support many events. In fact,
they even helped to mastermind the Christmas
idea because they felt if a certain fizzy drinks
company can have their Christmas lorry then
Wivelsfield should have two!
There will be official road closures in place to
enable this event to take place safely - please
keep a look out for the road closure information
boards that will go up around the village nearer
the time.
Come along and join us for the official lighting
of the village Christmas tree, again this will be a
locally grown tree, generously donated by the
Burton family. We will also have community
carols and Nativity tableau courtesy of
Wivelsfield Parish Church, Wicked Youth Group
and Wivelsfield Little Theatre. With the evening
being rounded off with live music.
of course, we have arranged for Father
Christmas to visit our event and he will be flying
grotto. There will be space for 100 children to
meet Father Christmas and although there will
be no charge for visiting him, children have to
be pre-registered to avoid disappointment.
Last year we ran the ‘Light Up Wivelsfield - Best
Dressed House’ competition and a householder
in Farncombe Close won a bottle of Ridgeview
when their house was judged by our secret
judging panel to be the most festive. We will
be running this competition again this year
and there is no need to enter as all decorated
houses will be included in the judging. our
secret judging panel will wander the village
during the week leading up to our event
on Friday 16th December 2016, so please
make sure your lights are turned on in the
evenings this week! The winning house will be
announced on the night of the event.
This is a free event put on for the community by
members of the community, however we will
have donation buckets on the night, so if you
like what we do, please give generously so that
we can continue to run this as a free event in
the future. All money raised goes to pay for the
Father Christmas gifts for the following year.
As the date gets nearer more information
will be shared via ‘The Spirit of Christmas’
Facebook page www.facebook.com/
‘Wivelsfield Life’ Facebook page.
our website for registration will be open at the
Wivelsfield Village Hall
uPdate
Writing this article in the middle of August with the schools on holiday and thus the
number of Hall users greatly diminished, people might think the Hall personnel can
relax. Far from it!
There are a number of jobs that cannot be
carried out when the Hall is in use. You can
hardly shut off the toilet areas when the Hall is
being used, so the August period is often one
of maintenance. For example, before the Hall
users return to their normal routines, we hope
to carry out improvements to the ventilation to
the Renshaw Room toilets and kitchenette area.
The Wivelsfield Little Theatre are aiming to repair
and rehang the back curtains to the stage. We
are also hoping to provide a new cupboard in
the Kitchen to house all our crockery and cutlery
in one place. We aim to have available sufficient
dining items for up to 130 persons to be seated
comfortably in the Main Hall, and yet allow
sufficient space for waiting staff.
We have had the first meeting of our sub-
Committee charged with planning and
later implementing an agreed plan for
improvements to the Hall. A copy of the
proposed improvements has been posted
for some weeks in the Hall foyer for general
viewing. The plan is not yet cast in stone, so if
there is any resident who would like to make
suggestions as to the existing arrangements,
please do not hesitate to talk to us. Thank you.
iN other News….
B2112 Ditchling Road by
the former Royal oak pub
As many of you will be aware, there have been
a number of recent accidents on the bend
by the Royal oak, several of them destroying
the garden wall of an adjacent property. East
Sussex Highways has been planning for some
months to reduce the speed limit along the
B2112 from beyond St George’s retreat, up to
the 30mph area just before Baldocks garage,
but no indication as to when the work may be
carried out has been given.
In the meantime, fearful of more accidents,
the Parish Council has been asking for urgent
improvements to signage warning drivers
of the bend, and is particularly keen to see
the introduction of more chevron boards to
properly highlight the extent of the curve in
the road. East Sussex Highways, when asked to
provide a comment for this edition of the News,
offered the following information:
‘I am pleased to advise you that we have
recently accepted the quote from our
Contractor for the 40mph speed limit on
the B2112 Ditchling Road. The works order
included some improvements to the signing
and lining including some red surfacing on
both of the approaches to the bend in the road
near the former Royal oak Pub. As part of the
work we will also be increasing the size of the
existing chevrons to help make the chevrons
more clearly visible to drivers.
At the present time we do not have a date for
the work, but we are aware that our Contractor
is preparing the order for the signs as they
have been in contact with us about the sign
manufacturing.
I have also agreed to replace the existing
vehicle activated signs (VAS) that warn the
drivers of the bend in the road. We will also
be asking for the trigger speeds on the VAS to
be reduced to help make the bend in the road
safer. At the present time I have not got a date
for replacing the VAS.
28
I will let you know when the 40mph speed limit
and signing work will be carried out once our
Contractor has supplied us with a date.’
New Village Sign
The Parish Council is working with village
Blacksmith, Tom Carter, to come up with a
design for a new village sign to replace the
lovely, but extremely faded hand-painted
one which hangs by the mini roundabout
on the B2112. Tom, based at Fawn Farm
Forge, oakwood Farm, is delighted to have
the opportunity to work on the sign for the
community in which he is based and we look
forward to seeing the results in the coming
months. To see some of Tom’s work, please visit
his Facebook page ‘Fawn Farm Forge’.
Community Clean Up Day
– Sunday 25 September –
10am-12pm
Come and lend a hand to spruce up the
village by litter picking, cutting back verges
or cleaning road name signs. Litter pickers,
hi-vis vests and gloves are available to borrow.
Refreshments/toilet facilities and a first aid
kit will be available in the Renshaw Room.
Those who have helped before have enjoyed
the morning and residents have noticed and
appreciate the difference it makes – please lend
your support, even for half an hour.
For more information please contact the
Parish Clerk on 01444 471898 or
clerk@wivelsfield.net .
New Councillors Wanted
Just to reiterate the message from the
Chairman – we are seeking community-minded
people to join the Parish Council and would
love to hear from anyone who would like to
know more. Please talk to any of the current
councillors or contact the Clerk.

The Parish Council is in discussion with
Police Community Support
officer (PCSo) Teams
As some of you may know, our former PCSo,
Ed Hall, moved on in March to become a police
constable in Brighton. Since then the role of
PCSos and ways in which they are deployed
have changed, meaning that there is now a
PCSo team which covers the Parish, rather than
a nominated individual. Although we will lose
the personal touch of having an individual
who knows the parish and its residents in the
way that Ed did, the advantage of the new
arrangement is that there will always be a PCSo
on duty who can help. Please see the contacts
page for information on how to get in touch
with the Lewes district team.
Volunteers Wanted to
Form a Working Group
Last December, Lewes District Council
introduced a Community Infrastructure
Levy (CIL), to replace the former Section 106
(developer contributions) Agreements. CIL can
be charged on new development that creates
net additional floor space of 100 square metres
or more, or creates a new dwelling and in our
area is charged at a rate of £100/m2 for retail
development and £150/m2 for residential
development. The CIL charged goes into a pot
for infrastructure improvements. A part of the
pot for each development goes to the town/
parish within which the development sits (25%
planning permission is granted, 15% if it is not).
With the second phase Ridge Way development
having recently received planning permission,
there should be a significant sum of money
coming to the Parish Council for use within the
community, (although less than there would
have been had the Neighbourhood Plan been
more advanced).
We would therefore like to put together a
working group to help to review, research and
prioritise suggested projects, ready for when
the money starts to come through and would
welcome the involvement of a handful of
community volunteers, ideally representing a
good cross-section of ages.
Research on the Neighbourhood Plan drew out
some of the improvements/additions to the
Parish that residents would like to see – but we
would welcome further suggestions. If you would
be interested in being a part of the working group
or would like to make suggestions as to how the
money could be used, please contact the Clerk at
More House Farm Fishery
About our fishery
More House Farm is a rapidly expanding fishery
set in the beautiful Mid Sussex countryside. It
currently boasts three lakes. They are all in set
in very tranquil surroundings, bordered almost
entirely by open country side.
The specimen lake, Kingfisher, has 14 generously
ghost carp and catfish.
The match lake, Canal, has 20 pegs and contains
carp, tench, barbel and a good head of silver fish.
our newest lake, Sidewinder, is a snake lake
which has 50 pegs, with a range of silver fish,
which include barbel, chub, skimmers, bream.
This lake also has a variety of carp. This lake was
completed in the Spring of 2009.
opening times
More House Farm Fishery is open all year round.
The gates open at 7am, allowing setting up
