SITA sets the standard for industry innovation
Brussels, Belgium was the setting
for the the2017 instalment of SITA’s
lively air transport summit. Once
again, the event was an IT extravaganza
highlighting the technologies
that will shape the aviation industry,
and how airlines and airports
can respond to
current and future
challenges.
A new world of
mixed reality is
emerging and
SITA Lab, the research
arm of
air transport IT provider SITA, is exploring
its potential for airlines and
airports. At a press conference in
Brussels, SITA released early results
of research carried out with Helsinki
Airport using Microsoft HoloLens to
analyse and manage airport operations
in a mixed reality environment.
HoloLens is the world’s first selfcontained
when using a shared IT infrastructure. SITA AirportConnect Common
Use Payment Service enables payment transactions by multiple airlines
on a single payment terminal. Importantly, this is possible with any, and
all, of the departure control systems the airlines choose to use.
Airlines use common-use or shared IT infrastructure at airports around
the world and this ground-breaking solution has been developed by SITA
to support airlines that wish to accept payments at common-use checkin
desks, kiosks and bag drop areas for baggage fees, upgrades and other
ancillary charges. SITA’s new solution uniquely combines point-to-point
encryption (P2PE) technology, with Europay, Mastercard, Visa (EMV)
and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliant chip card payment terminals,
applications and processes, to allow multiple merchants to use the
same terminal while meeting PCI security standards.
P&WC launches innovative oil analysis
solution on PW306A engines
Pratt & Whitney Canada’s ground-breaking
Oil Analysis Technology has made its debut at
EBACE 2017, as a commercially available solution
on PW306A engine-powered business
aviation aircraft. P&WC’s Oil Analysis Solution
will provide an innovative oil system prognosis
capability, also playing a role in the company’s
new proactive help desk, which was also
launched at EBACE, starting with the PW300 engine
family. The Oil Analysis Solution will enable
P&WC to identify potential maintenance events
at an early stage so they can be addressed proactively
or avoided entirely. Customers will receive
personalized reports and maintenance
recommendations based on oil sample findings,
enabling optimized shop-visit planning. What’s
more, PW306A engine customers who enrol in
an Eagle Service Plan (ESP) pay-per-hour program
will benefit from the service at no additional
cost for the rest of the year. The solution
will be part of the standard ESP program for
PW306A engines starting in 2018.
P&WC has developed and optimized an oil
analysis program by working closely with operators,
FBOs and aircraft OEMs. Many of
them have taken part in an ongoing customer
trials as early adopters to help diversify the
oil sample base and calibrate the technology
across a variety of P&WC engine models. To
date, nearly 4,000 oil samples have been received
across all engine families. With trials
continuing on other engine models, the solution
will keep evolving as a knowledge base
continues to grow.
equipment’s radar sensitivity and expand
the range for tracking targets. The upgrades,
called the Radar System Improvement Program
(RSIP), comprise a new radar computer, a radar
control maintenance panel and electrical and
mechanical software and hardware. Boeing engineers
and technicians performed the installation
and checkout of the first upgraded aircraft
at Boeing Field in Seattle. The remaining aircraft
were modified at Alsalam Aerospace Industries
in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, with support of Boeing
