Senior Exercise and Wellness
LCRAC offers Seniorcise Classes at all seven senior centers. These
classes focus on strength training, aerobic endurance, flexibility and
coordination with use of hand weights, exercise bands and low
impact aerobics. Class schedule is shown on page 14.
Senior Strength Training is a personalized program for seniors
55+ focusing on improving muscular strength, aerobic endurance,
flexibility and body composition. Seniors must have a Wellness
Center membership. The trainer will do a lot of functional
movement strength building exercises with clients using their own
body weight as resistance to promote good balance. The cost for
this program is shown on page 15.
Wellness Workshops are offered on a variety of topics. The
workshops are coordinated by our Senior Strength Trainer and USC
Exercise Science Interns. To find out more about upcoming
workshops stop by the board outside the Wellness Center at Tri-City
or call Tony Diaz at (803)-939-9309.
PROJECT PANTRY
AS MANY PREPARE to gather around the table with friends and family
this holiday season, numerous seniors will be alone and hungry. The
Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission strives to make this
lonely and sad time of year a little brighter for this often overlooked, but
significant group.
During the month of December, LCRAC will kick off Project Pantry with a
goal to provide Christmas food bags to over 800 clients receiving Meals on
Wheels services. The community is invited to support this project by
donating items that will be placed in the bags or by organizing a food drive
to collect non-perishable food items.
If you would like to help with Project Pantry, you can donate breakfast bars,
individual packs of raisins, canned chicken and dumplings (20-24 oz. can),
peanut butter crackers, individually packaged instant grits and oatmeal, green beans, corn or sweet peas.
Monetary donations are also welcomed. Please make sure that all donations made are within the
expiration date listed on the item.
Donations must be received by November 3rd to allow time for packing and distributing the bags.
Donations should be dropped off at the Council on Aging Office at 125 Parker Street, Lexington. For
additional information, please call Donna Neel at (803) 356-5111 or email dneel@lcrac.com.

Aging Department
The overall goal of the seven Senior Centers of the
Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission is
summarized in the motto, Privileged Ones Growing
Older. Recognizing that it is a privilege to grow older, we
strive to enhance the lives of the older adults in our
population and to acknowledge and benefit from the
numerous gifts those persons have to offer through their
participation in our programs.
Our Senior Centers offer a variety of programs and
activities aimed at enhancing an older adult’s mental and
physical wellness. Anyone who wishes to participate in
our programs must be free of conditions requiring
personal care assistance or personal supervision. Older
adults are welcome to participate in the daily activities at
the Centers. Call your local Center for age requirements,
memberships, activity fees and program availability.
Moving for Meals Campaign Addresses Senior Hunger
Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission kicked off its Moving for
Meals campaign in July and will conclude this annual time of giving in October.
Each year businesses, individuals, churches, etc., commit to make a difference for
those senior aged individuals who struggle with insufficient food and nutrition.
On April 22nd, Tom Church was posthumously recognized for his ongoing contributions
to this campaign to support the Lexington County Meals on Wheels Program.
Mr. Church and his wife, Glinda gave throughout the year to make a
difference for senior individuals, not only in their community of Gilbert, but throughout the Lexington County area.
If you would like to make a difference by donating to the Moving for Meals Campaign and helping to end senior hunger
in your community, please call (803) 356-5111 for details.
