Until 1st October the Festival will offer a world-class programme of contemporary and classical music, literary talks, historical and nature walks, film, theatre, art exhibitions and children’s events. Now in its 46th year Rye Arts Festival is not just one of the best in the South East of England but the whole of the UK! On both Saturday 23rd and 30th September evening, there will be a much-anticipated performance of La Boheme by Puccini. On Saturday 16th September there is a big treat for courtesy of The English Concert - one of the finest, if not the best, chamber orchestras in the world. This year’s varied literary programme has much to offer! It kicks off on the morning of Saturday 16th September with Kenneth Clarke MP – the Father of the House, jazz loving conservative. And from the opposite benches comes Dame Margaret Hodge, the Labour MP. She speaks on Thursday 28th fresh from the Labour Party Conference Theatre provides a focus on Jane Austen since this is the author’s bicentenary year. Karin Fernald brings her one-woman play called Jane Austen – The Early Years on Sunday 17th, which focuses on the writer’s unpublished works from her childhood and adolescence and is warm and very interesting as it provides so much insight into her later novels.
