time brings with<br />

it many feelings:<br />

excitement,<br />

nervousness, and<br />

anticipation at<br />

the year ahead.<br />

For parents who are separated or<br />

divorced, however, questions surrounding<br />

time with the kids, extra-curricular<br />

activities and finances can lead to<br />

additional stress.<br />

The following suggestions may be useful<br />

for parents trying to keep the peace at<br />

this or any time <strong>of</strong> year:<br />

A. Talk early and talk <strong>of</strong>ten.<br />

Discuss with the other parent what the<br />

priorities are, always with the children’s<br />

best interests in mind. Parents who put<br />

their children’s needs ahead <strong>of</strong> their own<br />

generally fare better in the long run.<br />

B. Be clear on what the<br />

responsibilities are. Will you and<br />

your ex equally care for the kids, or will<br />

one have more time than the other?<br />

Furthermore, who will pay for what?<br />

A ‘Separation Agreement,’ which is a<br />

contract about the termination <strong>of</strong> your<br />

marriage, can sometimes take a while to<br />

complete. One option may be to create a
