Things that families do need... Anything to clean with: mops, trash bags, cleaning supplies, etc. As you can imagine this water is nasty and filled with stuff you wouldn't want in your home. Over 15 of our church members and an additional 7-10 families from school received water throughout their home. Food: This is a secondary need, but a need nonetheless. As of this writing, all roads from the principal’s side of town to the school are blocked off due to floodwaters of Clear Creek which bisects the community. We do have a method to collect any monetary donations that come in through our website. Our pastors are also in contact with WELS Care and Relief. In a phone conversation with the principal I was told that one family in particular lost everything and that donations, cards and contact will be most appreciated by them. The congregations in Houston have been helping their own members and receiving assistance from one another. Many of the members are more affluent than you or I but certainly appreciate our thoughts and prayers and whatever other token of love we share like the cards the students will make. They have also made it known that gift cards to Kohls, Target, Lowes, Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond and Toys “R” Us can be used by many members, especially the ones who have lost everything. This is cheaper and more efficient than collecting and mailing items. You may also consider giving gifts to aid organizations like WELS Committee on Relief or JJ Watt. Just do not ever give to an organization that calls you. Thanks for your donations.
