Christians and how we can help.
Abiding Word Lutheran on the North side of Houston is the only WELS school actually
in Houston. It has been the largest congregation in Houston for many years. They have
102 students in their school and 30 students in their early childhood center. Abiding
Word has 8 teachers and 2 pastors. Here is the letter from their principal.
It was great sharing a few texts with you this morning. Thank you for thinking of our
school and thinking of this creative way to connect your school with the ministry and
students of our school. I know that anything that Word of Life does will be greatly appreciated!
letter from their principal.
ave been discussing how people around
o were affected by the hurricane and
preciate cards and letters from your
er the building so students’ belongings
really devastated our playground and
damaged. We may need to replace parts
of our playground border and fill will need
yed. We will need to plant new trees to
ill mean that we might have to purchase
tree in your school's honor.
d our playground area.
d with one of them being totally destroyed
ool’s parking lot. We will need to replace
There aren't any items that I would say that our students would need. We have a good
pipeline of water, food, and supplies. We do have a method to collect any monetary
donations that come in through our website. Our pastors are also in contact with
WELS Care and Relief.
In a phone conversation with the principal I was told that one family in particular lost
everything and that donations, cards and contact will be most appreciated by them.
The congregations in Houston have been
helping their own members and receiving
assistance from one another. Many of the
members are more affluent than you or I
but certainly appreciate our thoughts and
prayers and whatever other token of love
we share like the cards the students will
make.
They have also made it known that gift cards to Kohls, Target, Lowes,
Home Depot, Bed Bath & Beyond and Toys “R” Us can be used by many
members, especially the ones who have lost everything.
This is cheaper and more efficient than collecting and mailing items.
You may also consider giving gifts to aid organizations like WELS
Committee on Relief or JJ Watt. Just do not ever give to an organization
that calls you. Thanks for your donations.
