Why do people
commit suicide?
At midnight, all of sudden, I
woke up with fear, covered
in sweat. I saw her, my friend
now dead, in my “dream”,and
thanked God that I was still alive.
She was my childhood friend who I
used to play with. We grew up together.
We were close friends. Last year, I heard
she committed suicide in her own room.
I was in Bangalore when the incident
happened. I was unable to visit Nepal
to attend her last rites. And today, as I
met her in my dream; I found that she is
unhappy wherever she is. Her soul is still
hovering around in the atmosphere.
In the dream, I felt she regrets her
decision to take her life, and asked her
“Why did you take such an extreme
decision?” She cried. She said that she
had fallen in love with a guy who is from
the lower caste. She wanted to marry him
but her parents were against the marriage.
She wanted to run away with him but
he did not agree to it and advised her to
not go against her parents. He told her
to wait for a few days to convince her
parents. But my friend knew her parents
well. Her parents had already fixed her
marriage with another guy. So, she hung
herself in her own room before the day
of her marriage. She said that even after
killing herself, her soul was not satisfied.
She is roaming in this atmosphere only.
Now, she has no physical body. There is
no limited area to be within. There are
no rules to obey but still she is not happy
with her current state of being. Then, I
woke up.
May be, some of you wondering why
I wrote this article? Why I published it? I
used to write journals when I was in class
8, 9, and 10.Then I discontinued it, but

cried. She said that she

caste. She wanted to marry
him but her parents were
against the marriage.
these days something is hitting me from
the inside. It is telling me to share my
experience as well knowledge, and spread
awareness in their society. I am young
and energetic but I had no option but to
become mature at an early age.
Let’s explore why people commit
suicide. We heard many entrepreneurs,
actors, poets, scholar’s as well ordinary
people have committed suicide due to
frustration, depression.Like, Sylvia Plath
was famous for her confessional poetry
in ‘The Colossus and Other Poems’ and
‘Ariel’. She committed suicide along with
her children becauseof long depression
and a hard marital separation. She
blocked all the doors and windows with

Moktan has committed suicide within 3
months of getting married. She hanged
herself withher shawl from the ceiling
ofher residence. Well Known Director,
Alok Nembang was found hanging in his
own house. Behind this occurrence, we
have not been investigated yet why do
suicide case happening even though they
know who they are, what they want,why
do people love to commit suicide but
not to live even though they are success
in life? Do society responsible for such
accident?
When a baby is born, it isnot aware
about the world. “irstly, the babies learn
from their parents and relatives and
then from the society. The sortof culture
theyacquire depends upon their parents’
background. How much time parents
spend with their children is another
criteria. Nation is also responsible for
the kind of new youth that are getting
generated every day. In addition, there are
political issues, societal issues, cultural
issues and community issues. They affect
the youngsters and demotivate people
from living.
When a baby transforms from a
child to teenager to an adult, he or she
is sensitive to what happens around.
Therefore, parents are role models for
their children. They play a vital role in
their child’s life. Parents should always
encourage their children to do something
on their own. This develops the sense
of independence as well as builds up
their confidence. Even if children make
mistakes, parents must show them the
right direction; it’s their responsibility.
Parents must never make their children
feel that they are alone. If the situation
is bad, guardians must always be able to
build the trust, assuring the kids that no
matter what happens, they are always
with them. Parents should always be
honest with their children. Parents must
be good friends of their children with
whom the children can share their joys
and sorrows. If we are able to build such
a ladder from their childhood, I feel
confident that the number of suicides
can be reduced. Sometimes, parents are
unable to identify what their children are
going through. Therefore, it is my sincere
advice that parents be flexible with their
children. If not, the horrible incident that
happened with my friend will repeat
again. The society as well our national
culture is responsible for such incidents.
These days, many youngsters,
teenagers as well adults are killing
themselves because lack of passion and
motivation. They live with a constant
fear, in relation to their parents, relatives,
friends as well as the society. They fear
losing their reputation in the society. They
fear to fight against the outdated social
norms. Lack of faith in themselves can
also lead to such extreme measures as
taken by my friend.
No matter what our profession may
be,or where we might be in terms of life
situation, it is important to stay motivated.
It is important that we remain positive
and spread that positivity around. I would
like to convey a simple message: be
passionate, do your duty and never give
up on what you want to do. =
