CLASSIC ARMY
M870 TACTICAL SHOTGUN!
WITH TOKYO MARUI’S GAS SHOTGUN LINE UP, INCLUDING THE M870, THE
TACTICAL AND THE BREACHER, ALONG WITH THE NEW KSG-12 THERE’S
A FRESH BUZZ AROUND PUMP ACTION BOOM-STICKS. OF COURSE
GAS-POWERED GUNS GIVE A LIGHT AND FAST RACKING ACTION BUT THEY
DO HAVE THEIR COMPLEXITIES AS WELL AS THEIR EXPENSES. CLASSIC ARMY
HAVE THIS CLASSIC SPRINGER ON THE MARKET FOR A LITTLE OVER £100. JUST
HOW REALISTIC IS THE IDEA OF USING IT AS A PRIMARY WEAPON THOUGH?
The Remington 870 shotgun is about as iconic
as the shotgun gets, between this and the
Mossberg 500 you have about 90% of the pump
action shotguns you will ever see rounded
up. Available in various different lengths and
configurations including full stocks, folding
stocks, stockless and with pistol grips, the 870
is used by hobby shooters, law enforcement and
military forces the world over. They have been
featured in countless movies and TV productions
and they make a very solid choice when it comes
to themed load outs and impressions.
Classic Army’s M870 Tactical is what you could
call the “full length” model at an imposing 40”
from muzzle to butt pad. The barrel is a full half
of this overall length at 20” and the magazine
tube that runs beneath it is extended to match.
With a real cartridge-fed shotgun this would give
you a capacity of at least 8 cartridges before
having to reload.Classic Army’s gun however,
uses a hidden box magazine system to feed BBs.
The entire receiver and fore-end of the 870
Tactical is made from robust, black finished
metal. There are very few screws and external
giveaways that this is a replica. The stock and
pump grip are made from black fibre reinforced
nylon material that has a matted, low-vis finish.
The mock “bolt” visible through the ejection
port is possibly the biggest giveaway that the
Classic Army shotgun is a replica because it is
finished in a bright silvery paint and lacks a few
details. We can’t be too critical of this though,
because of the internals of the gun it is nigh
impossible to model a realistic false bolt.
The stock features a gnurled grip area for a
traditional look and for a bit of extra traction for
the primary hand, the fore grip is heavily ribbed
to facilitate a fast cocking action. The stock is
rounded out with a lovely rubberised recoil pad
that makes the gun comfortable to shoulder
and less likely to slip when seated. There’s a
functional push-thru trigger safety to prevent
any accidental discharges and a single forward
sling point but curiously nothing at the rear.
The barrel and the magazine tube are clamped
together at the front with a simple brace but
there are absolutely no sights, nor the provision
(such as a RIS rail) to fit them, making us
question the “Tactical” moniker a little.
