Dear Reader
The following text is the Estonian chapter from the book
“The Reunification of Europe: Anti-totalitarian Courage
and Political Renewal”, first published in 2009 by the
European Peoples’ Party group in the European Parliament.
It was my honour as the Estonian member of the EPP
Group since 2004 to initiate the publication of this survey
which includes for the first time in one volume historical
accounts of ten Central and Eastern European nations.
These are the European nations that were cut off from their
normal historic relations from the rest of Europe by the
Soviet Union. Until 1989, they all endured the devastating
effects of the communist totalitarian system and then finally
succeeded to be reunited with democratic Europe.
“The Reunification of Europe” has been translated into
German, French, Polish, Spanish, Slovenian and Romanian.
This book is now available only via internet: (https://issuu.
com/eppgroup/docs/the_reunification_of_europe_3rd_edi)
as all hard copies have been distributed.
The following text is the shortest possible review to help
