OCTOBER 2017 PROFESSIONAL SECURITY
Features
18 spending the budget
In our regular pages on products and
services used in
the UK and
abroad, from
access control and
doors to lone
worker protection,
we feature BBC
Worldwide,
universities and Canary Wharf, pictured.
42 value add
We've been thinking about
this topic for a while - how
to add value to doing
security; and even if you
succeed, how do you
measure that you are doing
it, so as to convince the
buyer or customer you're
doing well? There are ways.
We return to a series
about jobs in industry
sector; starting with oil
and gas. Don't forget
your passport.
68 book reviews
This month our typically varied
books reviewed are about
disasters, a design guide to
access control, and a cop's
memoir of Kosovo and Iraq.
The Security TWENTY series of conference-exhibitions
closes for 2017 in its regular place: London.
The Park Inn at Heathrow to be precise, just by
the roundabout into the airport, on Thursday,
November 2. On a suitably transport theme,
conference speakers include Glenn Patton, Head
of Security for HS2, the rail
line due to connect London
and Birmingham next decade.
From down the road is Slough
Borough Council Security
Manager Peter Webster; while
not so local is the Irish risk
consultant Aidan Anderson,
who was among the speakers
at ST17 in Dublin in April, left.
And we welcome back another
bottle
We don't visit Guy
Mathias at Lucozade
Suntory Ribena only
because his employer
makes such tasty
products. When we're
not dosing on energy
drinks, we hear about
his work on risk register
upkeep.
return speaker, pictured
right, Surveillance Camera
Commissioner Tony Porter,
who since we last
interviewed him earlier this
year has brought out a
strategy, with plenty to
offer about doing
surveillance right, whether
you're a user, installer of
the kit, or law enforcer
using the evidence.
Anixter, Seagate, Hanwha Techwin and Hikvision
will also give updates. You are as ever welcome to
turn up on the day, but we ask that you register
beforehand just to help us gauge the numbers for
catering. Exhibition doors open at 8.30am, the
conference runs from 9.30am until (free hot buffet)
lunch. You can register online or email organiser
