Welcome to the 7th annual Winchcombe Festival of Music and Arts which provides a<br />

varied and popular programme of music, art, sculpture, poetry, workshops and talks in<br />

and around Winchcombe.<br />

For this year only, we have events celebrating the millennium of<br />

Winchcombeshire. Want to know more? Watch out for this logo:<br />

The Festival is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and could<br />

A workshop allowing you to experiment with several needlefelting<br />

techniques while amassing a stock of beautiful cards.<br />

Concentrating on simple flower shapes, we will use wool,<br />

silk, artificial flowers, felt and fleece to play around with the<br />

possibilities. Needle-felting is a wonderful way of<br />

embellishing fabric. Suitable for complete beginners.<br />

CARDUCCI STRING QUARTET<br />

In this special event for local primary school children, The<br />

Carducci String Quartet will lead an hour-long interactive<br />

workshop covering the history of the string quartet and<br />

introducing lots of sound worlds and techniques. The<br />

members of the Carducci String Quartet are passionate<br />

about music education and set up the Carducci Music<br />

Trust in 2009 to support their work in schools.<br />

Tim Porter, an itinerant lecturer specialising in music and<br />

the Middle Ages, will deliver a fascinating talk about the<br />

rise and fall of this short-lived shire. Tim will illustrate his<br />

talk with slides, and he will be happy to answer questions.<br />

The Carducci Quartet is recognised as one of<br />

Kate Skeet and Kate Fawcett work as the Lilliput Duo,<br />

playing violas and violins to deliver an interactive<br />

concert of approximately 45 minutes. The programme<br />

will include Telemann’s Gulliver Suite, which inspired<br />

the name of Lilliput Concerts. The concert is followed<br />

by a chance to try out the mini instruments. Suitable for<br />

The Oriel Singers present a programme celebrating music inspired by the<br />

psalms, culminating in Leonard Bernstein’s own arrangement of his iconic<br />

Chichester Psalms in their original Hebrew. This powerful work, featuring<br />

Cassian Pichler-Roca, a chorister from Tewkesbury Abbey Schola Cantorum,<br />

is accompanied by organ, harp and percussion. Other works include pieces by<br />

Monteverdi, Schubert, Purcell, Chilcott, Poulenc, Biebl and Firsova.<br />

Come and try the ancient art of church bell-ringing.<br />

We will show you some of the basics, and even<br />

give a demonstration. Bell-ringing is a great exercise, and it is also a team activity,<br />

piece. These samplers can then be stretched over<br />

Street Fair promises to be a day packed full of fun<br />

for all the family. Stall holders selling everything<br />

from food and local produce to crafts, jewellery,<br />

furniture and gifts will set up shop on North<br />

Street, which will be closed to traffic for the day.<br />

The Fringe includes many favourite performers<br />

from the Silver Sambistas to the lively local youth<br />

band Echoella. Watch out for our juggling stilt-walker! Join<br />

in some line dancing, and boogie along to musicians from the<br />

Occasionally Big Band! Some seating is available.<br />
