CLASSIC TIMES
From the Director: Lynda Christison
Now that the temperature has dropped below triple digits and fall is here, it is a great time to try something new. Join
our Meals on Wheels volunteers and deliver meals to homebound seniors, try a new activity, or go on an adventure
with the Classic Travelers. Check out all of these possibilities and more just by turning the pages of this newsletter.
Open enrollment for Medicare is October 15 th to December 7 th . If you want to review your coverage or make changes,
visit www.medicare.gov for information or call the I-Care program at Central Midlands Council of Governments at
803-376-5390 ext. 309 or ext. 312 and request an insurance counseling appointment.
Hurricane Irma gave us enough excitement for this year. Let’s hope for no more hurricanes, floods, snow or ice. Just
in case, please make sure you have emergency supplies on hand. Chat with your bad weather buddy about what each
of you will do in an emergency and how you will check on each other. Visit www.ready.gov for tips and ideas.
Special appreciation from all of us to our maintenance department for making sure our buildings
and generators were ready to go before Irma arrived, cleaning up afterwards, and helping
us sort and load shelf stable meals for Meals on Wheels clients. They are an amazing part of our
LCRAC team!! A huge thank you goes to Tommy Frazier. On the day we were closed and Irma
unleashed heavy winds and rain on South Carolina, Tommy and his forklift met and unloaded
the delivery truck carrying meals for 1000 homebound seniors in four counties.
Please consider LCRAC’s Meals on Wheels program in your year-end giving!! In the last 12
months, we fed 90 more people than we did in the previous year. Your support for our meal programs has always
made a huge difference in the number of meals we are able to serve. Every $60 donated pays for the food for one
senior to have nutritionally balanced meals for four weeks. Thank you!
Want to give a holiday gift to a senior or to his/her pet? The Tree of Blessings will be at the Flight Deck Restaurant for
those who wish to choose the name of a senior off of the tree. Please have your gift back to the Fllght Deck by
December 11 th . The Lt. Governor’s Office on Aging is coordinating a pet gift program. For information, contact jvancleave@aging.sc.gov.
The gifts will bring huge smiles and joy to the recipients.
Congratulations to all of the amazing athletes who participated in the 2017 Lexington County Senior Games. Starting
with the health fair and fashion show, it was a fabulous week of activities, wonderful sportsmanship, and inspiration.
Our 2016 Spirit Award winner, Sylvia Garris, carried the torch as she led the Parade of Athletes to open the games.
Ending the games, John Mower III was announced as the 2017 Spirit Award winner.
On behalf of the staff at LCRAC, a very special thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers!! Thank you for going the
extra mile, not just during the holidays, but all year long!! Have a wonderful fall and a fabulous holiday season!!

A Big Thank you to all the Sponsors that supported
the Lexington County Senior Sports Games!!
Your support help make the Games a success!
