MODI ASKS INDIANS TO
SEE MORE OF INDIA,
PROMOTE TOURISM
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on
Sunday asked people to promote
tourism spots in their states and also to
visit the numerous tourist sites within
the country instead of getting attracted
by “superficial glitter” abroad.
“It is a matter of concern when we
do not see our own country, we do not
know about its diversities nor do we
understand them. Impressed by mere
superficial glitter, we have started
enjoying touring foreign countries,”
Tourists
Must Feel At
Home In Goa
Modi said in his Mann Ki Baat radio
programme.
“I have no issues if you travel around
the world but have a look at your
own country too,” the Prime Minister
added.
Modi urged people to visit the seven
best tourist destinations in their state
and promote them by posting pictures
from there on social networking sites
with hashtag ‘Incredible India’.
Urging people to travel like a student
and observer, Modi said he had visited
more than 500 districts in the country.
This had helped him to understand
things better.
“In order to promote tourism, every
Indian must know about the best
tourist destinations in your state,”
Modi said.
Lakhs of photographs received from
every corner of India will actually
become a treasure for the tourism
sector, he said.
He asked people to write good
travelogues and post information about
architecture, natural beauty and daily
life of various places.
Based on the inputs, the government
would prepare publicity material,
Modi said.
Observing that October to March was
a suitable time for tourism, he asked
people to travel to different parts of
the country as it was full of “myriad
diversities” instead of visiting foreign
countries.
He said Mahatma Gandhi, Lokmanya
Tilak and Swami Vivekananda
travelled widely in India. This
developed their understanding of the
country.
“Can we make an effort as a student
to learn, understand and try to live
as per the traditions, culture, attire,
eating habits and beliefs of different
states, different societies, different
groups of our country?” Modi asked.
Goa Tourism Minister Manohar
Ajgaonkar on Tuesday, the eve of
World Tourism Day, said tourism
industry stakeholders must act as
ambassadors of the State.
He said, “Every visitor should be
treated with warmth and hospitality
that Goa is famous for.” Mr. Ajgaonkar
also appealed to tourists to engage
in sustainable tourism. “I greet all
tourists and appeal to them to enjoy
Goa in a responsible manner,” Mr.
Ajgaonkar said.
The theme for this year’s World
Tourism Day is ‘Sustainable Tourism:
A tool for development’. Mr. Ajgaonkar
said authorities would put in place
more services to attract tourists.

Royal Enfield
Continental GT
750 (Interceptor
750) Might
Launch At
Eicma 2017
Royal Enfield is highly speculated
to launch the all-new twin-cylinder
Continental GT 750 in India by the
end of this year. Ahead of its launch,
media reports suggest that the Royal
Enfield Continental GT 750 twincylinder
motorcycle will be showcased
at the EICMA 2017 on November 7.
Moreover, reports also speculate that
the bike will be named as the Royal
Enfield Interceptor 750. That said,
SAUDI ARABIA TO ALLOW
WOMEN TO DRIVE FOR
THE FIRST TIME
Saudi King Salman has issued a decree
giving women the right to drive for the
first time from next year, ending a ban
seen by rights activists as an emblem
of the ultra-conservative Islamic
kingdom's repression of women.
The kingdom was the only country
in the world to bar women from
driving and for years had garnered
international criticism for detaining
women who defied the ban by taking to
the road.
The Saudi Ambassador to
Washington, Prince Khaled bin
Salman, said it was a "historic and big
day in our kingdom".
"Our leadership thinks that this
is the right time to do this change
because currently in Saudi Arabia we
have a young, dynamic, open society,"
he told reporters.
Positive reactions quickly poured
in from inside the kingdom and
around the world, with the US State
Department welcoming the move as "a
great step in the right direction".
Activist Manal al-Sherif, who
was arrested in 2011 after a driving
protest, took to Twitter following the
announcement to express her relief.
"Today, the last country on Earth to
allow women to drive … we did it," she
wrote.
the bike has been spotted testing in
India on several occasions. Recently,
two different prototypes of the Royal
Enfield 750 we spied testing – cafe
racer (Continental GT 750) and a
street classic (Interceptor 750), which
makes us believe that the company
will launch two different motorcycles.
One of these could be the Interceptor
750, but this is just speculation from
our side.
Another activist, Aziza Youssef, said
she was excited by the move, which
she called a "great first step".
Latifa al-Shaalan, a member of the
Shura Council, an advisory body, said
the decision would strengthen women's
employment in the private sector.
"This is a historic day and I cannot
find the words to express my feelings
and the feelings of thousands of Saudi
women," she said on Arabiya TV.
Bali Volcano As
Tremors Intensify
BALI, Indonesia -- The exodus from a
menacing volcano on the Indonesian
tourist island of Bali is nearing
100,000 people, a disaster official said
Wednesday, as hundreds of tremors
from the mountain are recorded daily.
The National Disaster Mitigation
Agency said more than 96,000 people
have now fled the area around Mount
Agung in the northeast of the island.
Villagers began leaving in the
middle of last week and the number
of evacuees has swelled daily since
Friday, when the volcano's alert status
was raised to the highest level.
The agency said a monitoring
center had recorded more than 800
earthquakes so far Wednesday and
thin smoke was observed rising 160
feet above the crater.
The volcano last erupted in 1963,
killing more than 1,100 people, and
Cars By 2020
Dyson, the engineering company best
known for its vacuum cleaners and
remained active for about a year.
Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo
Nugroho said the chances of an
eruption are "quite big," although
experts can't predict when with
certainty.
The mountain, about 45 miles to
the northeast of the tourist hotspot of
Kuta, is among more than 120 active
volcanoes in Indonesia.
Another volcano, Mount Sinabung,
has been erupting sporadically since
2010, sometimes blasting volcanic ash
several miles into the air and forcing
more than 30,000 to evacuate their
villages.
Indonesia, an archipelago of
fans, plans to spend £2bn developing a
"radical" electric car.
The battery-powered vehicle is due to
be launched in 2020.
Dyson says 400 staff have been
working on the secret project for the
past two years at its headquarters in
Malmesbury, Wiltshire.
However, the car does not yet exist,
with no prototype built, and a factory
site is yet to be chosen.
Sir James declined to give further
details of the project. "Competition
for new technology in the automotive
industry is fierce and we must do
everything we can to keep the specifics
of our vehicle confidential," he told
staff in an email.
Important points that are undecided
or secret include the firm's expected
annual production total, the cost of the
car, or its range or top speed.
Sir James said about £1bn would
be spent on developing the car, with
another £1bn on making the battery.

UN’S WORLD TOURISM
DAY 2017 REMINDS US
TO BE RESPONSIBLE
TRAVELLERS
LONDON, Sept 27: On World
Tourism Day, globetrotters are being
challenged to be responsible, mindful
travellers at a time when the news
cycle seems be peppered with stories
of tourists behaving badly.
September 27 marks World Tourism
Day, an annual event organised by
the United Nations World Tourism
Organisation (UNWTO), aimed at
underscoring the social, cultural,
political and economic value of
international tourism.
This year's event also aligns with
the UN's overall designation of 2017 as
the International Year of Sustainable
Tourism for Development.
Ahead of this year's event, the group
Mumbai-Goa
Journey
Gets More
Picturesque With
Transparent Roof
If you have ever travelled between
Mumbai and Goa you would be aware
of the picturesque route and the magic
of the nature that transports you to
a different world altogether. Aiming
to provide a delightful travelling
experience, the Central Railway has
introduced a glass-roofed Vistadome
coach on the Mumbai-Goa route.
Wondering what makes the train
special? Well, the train gives you an
access to the panoramic view of the
journey because of the glass ceiling.
The coach will be attached to the
Jan Shatabdi Express functioning
between Dadar and Madgaon. The
coach was received at Chhatrapati
Shivaji Terminus in the first week of
September. Vistadome inaugurated
by former Railway Minister Suresh
Prabhu started its journey from
September 18, 2017.
Here are 10 things you need to know
released a manual on tourist etiquette
called “Travel. Enjoy. Respect,” as part
of a global public awareness campaign
reminding tourists on the dos and
don'ts of responsible travel.
Last year alone, 1.24 billon travellers
crossed international borders, a figure
that's predicted to spike to 1.8 billion
by 2030.
“The question, as we celebrate
World Tourism Day 2017, is how
we can enable this powerful global
transformative force, these 1.8 billion
opportunities, to contribute to make
this world a better place and to
advance sustainable development
in all its 5 pillars,” said UNWTO's
secretary-general Taleb Rifai in a
about the vistadome coach:
1. The coach will be equipped with
LED lights, automatic sliding doors,
rotating and reclining seats and multitier
luggage racks.
2. The roofs of the coach will turn
transparent with just a button click,
allowing passengers to enjoy the
landscape view of the Western Ghats.
3. The seats in the coach will rotate 360
degrees.
4. The coach will have 12 LCD
television screens, a mini fridge, an
oven and a juicer.
5. The toilets in the coach will have
ceramic tiles.
6. The coach comprises of 40 seats and
a single ticket would cost Rs 2,235.
All passengers will be charged a full
fare. No passengers will be given any
concession.
statement.
The five pillars include economy,
society, environment, culture and
peace.
Meanwhile, under the “Protect our
planet” category, the UN's tourist
handbook offers these simple codes of
conduct:
- Reduce your environmental impact
by being a guardian of natural
resources, especially forests and
wetlands.
- Respect wildlife and their natural
habitats.
- Purchase products that aren't made
using endangered plants or animals.
- In protected areas, access only the
places open to visitors.
- Reduce your water and energy
consumption whenever possible.
- Leave only a minimum footprint and
a good impression behind.
The reminder comes following a
particularly turbulent year for
international tourism. Across Europe
this summer, a wave of anti-tourism
marches were staged to protest
unchecked visitor numbers and
disrespectful tourists.
Visitors to Barcelona were being
greeted with messages like “Tourists
go home” and “Stop destroying our
lives” pasted onto lamp posts and
scribbled on walls.
In a bid to curb acts of hooliganism
and restore civility, Italian cities like
Rome, Turin and Milan have resorted
to imposing bans on everything from
outdoor drinking after nightfall, food
trucks and street hawkers to eating
and drinking near historic fountains.
And Florence issued a thinly
veiled warning to visitors in
a tourism campaign dubbed
#EnjoyRespectFirenze,” reminding
tourists that any display of uncivil
behaviour will be met with hefty fines.
AFP-Relaxnews
7. The bookings of the coach are open
at all computerised reservation centres
and on their website – irctc.co.in.
8. The train will run three times a week
during monsoon and five times a week
after the monsoon.
9. The train departs at 5.25 am from
Dadar and reaches Madgaon at 4 pm.
10. The coaches have been built in
The Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in
Chennai. The approx cost of the which
is Rs 3.38 crore.
‘Changes In
Charter Slots Will
Affect Season’
Panaji: Charter operators, who had
been anticipating a 25% rise in charter
flights for the upcoming season, are
unsure now. At the heart of the issue
are the changes in slot allotment for
charter flights at the Goa International
Airport, Dabolim. Charter and tour
operators are "extremely unhappy"
that this issue has unfolded just as the
tourism season is set to start next week.
Describing the situation as 'alarming',
Travel and Tourism Association of Goa
(TTAG) president Savio Messias said
that he is continuously in touch with
charter operators. The delay in slot
allotment, he said, is just a part of a
bigger problem, that of tour operators
being unhappy with this year's
allotment of slots. "In the past, the slots,
which were allotted in accordance with
the vessel, remained unchanged. This
year, however, they have changed the
pattern," Messais said. He said the least
that the Airports Authority of India
(AAI) could have done was to intimate
them (charter operators) in advance
about the proposed changes. "This
eleventh hour notice has put the plans
of tour operators in jeopardy," Messias
said. "Though we had been anticipating
a significant jump in charter tourists
this season, this problem, if not sorted
out, will have adverse effect on the
season," said Messias.
Travel Corporation of India (TCI),
chief operating officer, Ernest Dias,
too, said that the government will have
to sort out this issue at the earliest
possible so as to ensure that the charter
business will not be negatively affected.
TTAG has sought an intervention into
the issue by the government. They have
also placed a request with the chief
minister's office for a meeting.
out to the streets and celebrated the
resumption of normal life in Darjeeling.
All the shops and markets reopened
from today morning.
GJM had last night suspended its
agitation which it had launched on
June 15 for a separate Gorkhaland. The
strike was lifted from 6 am today in
response to an appeal by Union Home
Minister Rajnath Singh.
Various hill parties extended Durga
Puja greetings to the people of the hills
and several NGOs distributed sweets
and chocolates. Buses and vehicles
ferried passengers and normal services
resumed. The tour operators and hotel
owners hoped that tourism business
will also return to the hills very soon.

Micromax To Launch
Rs 2,000 Phone To
Take On Jiophone
NEW DELHI: Micromax is getting
ready to launch an entry-level 4G
VoLTE feature phone, Bharat One, in
the first week of October at about Rs
2,000, joining the race to get a share of
the segment of basic phones created by
the Reliance JioPhone.
The Gurugram-based handset maker
is set to launch its 4G feature phone
in an exclusive tieup with state-run
Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) for
attractive offers, including free voice,
two people aware of the company's
plans told ET on the condition of
anonymity. The launch is timed to
take advantage of the festive season
demand, even as the company
competes with large Chinese rivals
that have taken the lion's share in the
smartphone segment.
India's second-largest handset
manufacturer till recently, Micromax
has slumped to the fourth position in
the overall rankings and dropped out of
the list of top five smartphone makers.
The company is betting on a cheap
feature phone that supports 4G and
offers free calls over BSNL's network to
revive its fortunes.
Los Angeles-based accessory maker
Brikk today announced it is now
accepting pre-orders for customized
iPhone X models plated with solid
gold, rose gold, or platinum, priced
between $7,495 and $69,995.
Brikk said orders placed now will
ship between November and January
depending on the model purchased.
Personal delivery is available in the
United States, United Kingdom, China,
Hong Kong, Macau, and Singapore.
Brikk humorously promises each
"Lux iPhone X" will include 512GB
of storage, but that clearly won't be
confirmed until tomorrow's Apple
event.
Here's how they describe their
highest-end "Ingot Collection," which
is basically a solid gold iPhone X for
the low, low price of $70K:
" The Lux iPhone X Ingot 250 is the
definition of opulence. It is made of
solid gold. It features 250 grams of 22k
yellow gold. Each Lux Ingot is hand
made and assembled in Brikk's state
of the art laboratory in Los Angeles,
USA, as well as other facilities. "
Brikk isn't new to this. Over the
past two years, it has offered diamondstudded
iPhone 7 and Apple Watch
models, and its website appears to
sell gold and platinum AirPods with
charging cases for as much as $9,995.
Asus has launched two new notebooks
in India today – the VivoBook S15 and
ZenBook UX430. Both the notebooks
were announced earlier this year and
have been available in global markets.
The VivoBook S15 with prices starting
from Rs 59,990, will be available for
sale via offline and online retailers
from October 1, whereas the ZenBook
UX430 prices starting from Rs 74,990.
The Vivobook S15 boasts of
NanoEdge display and ultra-narrow
7.8mm bezel. On the other hand, the
ZenBook UX430 is the thinnest-ever
ZenBook to come of company’ stable
and features NVIDIA GeForce MX150
graphics chipset, Asus said. With
the latest notebooks, Asus is looking
at redefining ‘everyday’ computing
in Indian landscape, said Mr. Peter
Chang, the Regional Head, South Asia
& Country Manager in an official
statement. Let’s look at the features
and the specification sheet of the two
new notebooks.
Beats Studio3
Headphones Kill
The Noise And
Turn On The Music
Beats by Dre Studio3 wireless
Bluetooth headphones represent
the first major update to one of the
company’s most iconic models since
Apple acquired Beats in 2014.
The $349 headphones look pretty
much like they did three years ago,
though there are some new colors:
Shadow Gray, Porcelain Rose, Matte
Black, White, Blue, and Red. More
important, they're filled with excellent
new technology, including Apple’s
W1 communication chip (but not the
new W2 chip Apple just introduced in
the Apple Watch Series 3; guess that’ll
have to wait for the Studio4's). That
power-sipping chip means the Studio3
headphones could play for up to 22
hours, more than double the play time
of the previous model.

255-Year-Old Great
Banyan Hasn't
Stopped Growing
KOLKATA: The oldest citizen
of the city the 255-year-old Great
Banyan at the Indian Botanic Garden,
Shibpur - is, well, greater than ever
before. In fact, the garden's grand old
crowdpuller has increased its girth by
a massive two acres in a little over 30
years, forcing its caregivers to create a
larger boundary railing to hold it in.
In 1985, when a fence was installed
around the tree, it covered an area
of three acres.Today , 32 years later,
so many prop roots have grown all
around that the total area covered
is five acres. So, a new fence had to
be put around the energetic senior
citizen. This new fencing has just been
completed, though senior scientists in
charge of the tree's health are not sure
how long this, too, will be relevant.
The Botanical Survey of India, which
is the guardian of the garden, has
already nicknamed the Great Banyan
`The Walking Tree'.
The Guinness World Records
mentions the Great Banyan as one
that has the largest canopy and covers
the widest circumference. The garden
authorities have decided to write to
the Guinness authorities about the
tree's latest feat, too. Now, the Great
Banyan has over 4,000 prop roots that
is keeping it alive, a wonder in itself,
since the main trunk was lost to fungal
infection way back in 1925. At the
centre of the core area of the tree is
an installation in memory of the lost
trunk.
The tree is `walking' towards the
sunlight. Now, the Great Banyan has
Malaika Arora On India’s Next Top Model:
We Are Not Looking For A Pretty Face
Actor Malaika Arora has been roped to
judge the third season of the modelling
reality show ‘India’s Next Top Model’
on MTV. Malaika said that she would
be judging the contestants on several
parameters.”As a panellist in the third
season of India’s Next Top Model, I
will be judging the girls on several
parameters, most importantly I will
be looking at the ease with which
they carry themselves,” she said in a
statement.
“We are not looking for a pretty face,
but a face that embodies the essence of
human expression,” she said. The actor,
44, who is loved for her chic style, said
that fashion was “very close” to her
heart. “It is all about being free-spirited
and expressing oneself without any
inhibitions. A supermodel for me would
be someone who effortlessly carries
off the latest trends be it the squiggle
eyebrows or rocks sky-high heels with
the utmost grace. She should take up
any challenge thrown at her without
any hesitation,” Malaika added.
You’re Killing
Posts Beach
With Shah
Rukh Khan.
For somebody who came in quite late,
Katrina Kaif has proved herself to be
a quick learner. We are talking about
Katrina and her 5 million followers on
Instagram. For those who would like
a quick primer on how she did it (and
how you can do it too), Katrina’s latest
Instagram photos are case studies.
Sharing the photo which shows
Katrina standing under a tree, looking
more scorching than the weather
must have been at the time of the
photoshoot, she wrote, “#throwback to
a wonderfulll day under a tree and by
bones about the fact that she is a beach
bum but this is not the usual Instagram
Sajid Nadiadwala’s Baaghi 2 has been
making the right noise ever since its
fodder aka a bikini photo. Instead, the
actor looks beautiful in a white dress
and absolutely comfortable in her skin.
Jacqueline To Play A
Badass Cop In Race 3?
That Jacqueline Fernandez is teaming
up with Salman Khan and Remo
D’Souza for Race 3 is now a well
established fact. However, do you know
anything about the character in the
film? Well, the actress is reportedly
going to be seen playing a tough cop
in Race 3 alongside Salman Khan.
This is definitely a very hatke role
compared to the girl-next-door kind of
roles we have seen her play in films till
date. Apparently the makers wanted
to change the role of the tough cop
character which was being essayed
by Anil Kapoor in the previous two
installments. So they decided to go in
for a female cop instead of a male one
in this film.
A source close to the development
revealed to DNA, ““Jacqueline has an
interesting character in this thriller.
She will be the one at the helm of
things, who will be inspecting the
that this is a speed-based thriller,
announcement. The film, a sequel to
2016’s Hit film Baaghi, has wrapped its
first schedule in Pune today.
The schedule that lasted for 9 days,
has been wrapped with Tiger Shroff
and Disha Patani treating us with a
Baaghi 2 has been making headlines
ever since the makers announced
the pairing of Tiger Shroff and Disha
Patani opposite each other.
The action-packed franchise is all set
to take the thrills notches higher and
will feature Tiger Shroff in a never
set to shave his head. Sharing the
news of the wrap, Tiger Shroff tweeted,
CROSSWORD CRACKER
Remo Responds To Death
Hoax, Says 'Rocking In Porto'
New Delhi [India], Sep 26 : Popstar
Remo Fernandes has an extremely
witty response to his death hoax!
Fernandes, the recent victim of
celebrity death hoax that took fans
by storm, took to social media on
Monday to satirically state that he,
himself, almost believed he died, before
experiencing hunger pangs which
proved that the news was fake.
"I have been offering myself
condolences ever since I was first
informed about my sad demise last
evening. But something made me
suspect it was fake news. When I
woke feeling reasonably hungry this
morning I decided I was right. Thanks
very much for all your concern, for
messages asking straightaway "Are
you alive?" [I loved those, someday
I'll answer 'No'] to people who never
message me otherwise tentatively
asking, "Hey buddy, how are you?"
[Hold on, let me find the light switch
here']. I'll miss reading your lovely
eulogies- if any- this time, but hey, like
the man said, no one gets out of here
alive.
According to a report in ntd.
Jokes Apart!
Umbalo-Gong
Santa and Banta fly to the south sea
islands to study the natives. They go to
two adjacent islands and set to work.
A few months later Santa takes a boat
over to the other island to see how
Banta is doing. When he gets there, he
finds Banta standing among a group of
natives.
“Greetings! How is it going?” says
Santa.
“Wonderful!” says Banta, “I have
discovered an important fact about the
local language! Watch!”
He points at a palm tree and says,
“What is that?”
The natives, in unison, say, “Umbalogong!”
He then points at a rock and says, “And
that?”
The natives again intone, “Umbalogong!”
the same diet for past six decades
and says that it has made her fit. The
75-year-old still works in the field,
helping her family farming. Sometimes
they say she has a banana once a week
but nothing else.
Apart from one banana a week,
Saraswati Bai survives on water and
tea alone.
“You see!”, says the beaming Banta,
“They use the SAME word for ‘rock’
and for ‘palm tree’!”
“That is truly amazing!” says the
astonished Santa, “On the other island,
the same word means ‘index finger’!”
The Capsized Boat
At a boat rental concession, the
manager went to the lake’s edge
and yelled through his megaphone,
“Number 99, come in, please. Your
time is up.”
Several minutes passed, but the boat
didn’t return.
“Boat number 99,” he again hollered,
“return to the dock immediately or I’ll
have to charge you overtime.”
“Something is wrong here, boss,” his
assistant said. “We only have 75 boats.
There is no number 99.”
The manager thought for a moment
and then raised his mega-phone.
“Boat number 66!” he yelled. “Are you
having trouble out there?”
