From the Desk of the President
Arlene Berkowitz
I hope everyone had an enjoyable summer.
The Library continued to provide suggestions for
books to read, offered book discussions, made teen
and children programs available and continued the
Friday at the Movies program. Digital assistance was
available on Tech Tuesday and by appointment. The
ongoing book sale enabled patrons to purchase books,
and when traveling they could leave them behind for
others to enjoy. A successful Eclipse Party, attended by 300 people,
ended the summer.
I want to again thank Ron Day for his many years of leadership
and service to the Friends, including his professional job as editor of
the InfoBytes. Welcome to Renee Reiser and Elaine Stout who are
taking on the responsibility as co-editors of the InfoBytes.
During the summer, the Friends initiated a food drive to aid many
families in our immediate area by collecting non-perishable food and
paper goods that were donated to the Caldwell Food Pantry. Many of
our patrons generously contributed, and we will continue to maintain
this project.
The Library has added new sites to our Museum Pass Program.
Recently we acquired a Morris County Parks Pass which allows a
family of five access to three local historic sites: Cooper Gristmill in
Chester, Fosterfields Living Historical Farm in Morris Township and
Historic Speedwell in Morristown. Check at the Reference Desk for
the details about borrowing this Family Museum Pass.
I am teaching a four week introduction to the game, Mah-Jongg, a
new program added this fall.
On Thursday, November 9th, at 6:30 pm, the Annual Membership
Meeting of the Friends of the West Caldwell Public Library will be
held. We will be honoring the memory of Arnold Larson, a life long
resident of West Caldwell and a generous supporter of the Friends.
After a short business meeting and elections, a program about the
Caldwell Railway will be presented by local historian, Phil Jaeger.
Look for more program details elsewhere in this issue.
We send our congratulations to Hannah Sweetser, our Teen
Librarian, on her recent marriage to Michael J. Lee. May they
enjoy many happy years together.
