MONDAY, OCTOBER 23rd KIDS’ NATURE PROGRAMS - EXPLORE THE REFUGE On these Mondays in October: 23rd & 30th; each session from 10:00 – 11:30 am - Take your 3-5 year old youngster on a good old fashioned nature discovery walk. Meet at the refuge visitor center before driving together to the head of the day’s trail on the refuge (no parking fee charged). Each session will include a fall-themed walk on the refuge, for example: migration, cranberry bog, survival strategies, and fall foliage and seeds. Come dressed for the weather. If the weather is completely unsuitable for outdoor enjoyment, an indoor program comprised of crafts, games, and a story will be held instead. Enrollment is limited to 12 children. The parent or guardian must remain for the entire program. FEATURED READER SON RIVERS On Wednesday, October 25 at 6 PM the Amesbury Public Library welcomes featured poet, Son Rivers. Son Rivers has been enjoying poetry since he was a very young Greg Perry. Besides reading and writing it, he has work-shopped and taught it, read it at open mics, often as a featured reader, published it in journals and books, and won some awards for it. He has transcreated the works of others such as Cold Mountain, Lal Ded, the Kena Rishi, and Lao Tzu. He has even edited the two million words of Thoreau’s Journals into a transcendental daybook. Nonduality has his attention these days and his recent poems reflect the topic. Most importantly, he has been enjoying long trips to Virginia lately, visiting his lovely eight-month old granddaughter. He will read from his new collection,‘Rivers in Wonderland’, which is dedicated his granddaughter. The library hosts a monthly poetry series with an open mic.
