Local News Specialist housing barrister joins Trinity Chambers’ thriving civil team Alice Richardson specialises in housing, property, court of protection, local government and public law. She undertook pupillage, and began her practice, at a leading specialist set of chambers in London before relocating to Newcastle in July. Alice grew up in the North East and studied Law at Newcastle University. When her fiancé, a doctor from London, was given the opportunity to continue his training in the North East they took the decision to re-locate. “We love Newcastle and I knew that the legal sector in the North East was going from strength to strength so it was an easy decision for us both professionally and personally. I knew straight away that I wanted to be at Trinity and I am really looking forward to developing my practice alongside such supportive clerks, colleagues and solicitors.” Alice has a busy County Court practice and has appeared in cases in the High Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. She can see opportunities in the North East for housing work in particular to grow and develop further and is particularly interested in cases involving discrimination, human rights, judicial review and capacity. She explains that “whilst my practice may sound niche actually the cases I am involved in span a wide range of legal issues. What I love about housing is the interaction between traditional property law principles with public law issues and I cover the whole spectrum, from leasehold disputes and commercial property matters to homelessness appeals.” Since re-locating to Newcastle Alice has enjoyed the collegiate atmosphere of the legal community in the North East. “As a self-employed barrister moving my practice across the country was daunting. I had great relationships with clients and solicitors in London and I didn’t have that up here. But everyone has made me feel so welcome and I am already busy. It really feels like I am part of something exciting now. The legal industry up here seems to be booming at the moment and I am looking forward to building on that and working closely with solicitors and clients in the future.” Alice can be contacted at Trinity Chambers on 0191 232 1927 or a.richardson@trinitychambers.co.uk.
