What school did you teach at last?
A school in inner city Birmingham. I was there for
seven years, initially as Assistant Headteacher and
then as Deputy Headteacher.
What made you want to teach?
I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do but I loved music
and sport. When I realised I wasn't going to be a
footballer I decided I wanted to teach young people
to develop their musical skills.
Who is your favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja
Turtle?
I didn’t really watch it. I was more into the Thunder
Cat, Dungeons and Dragons and He-Man.
What’s the last song you listened to?
Gold on the ceiling by The Black Keys.
What toothpaste do you use?
Colgate.
What do you think will be the biggest trend in
2020?
Fashion and trends seem to go in cycles, so I’m going
to predict that combat-style trousers will make a
comeback.
What advice would you give to your past self?
To work harder and concentrate more at school. It
makes it easier when you get past exams and you
get more choice when thinking about college and
getting a job.
What was your first job?
What’s your favourite pizza topping?
Spicy sausage or mighty meat- preferably something
with a lot of heat.
What TV Christmas advert is your favouvrite?
House of Fraser's 2015 advert
Do you have any hidden talents?
My son tells me I have the ability to be the most
annoying man in the entire world. I’ll let my students
decide whether I keep that hidden or not.
What colour socks are you wearing?
Grey, blue and white.
Do you like marmite?
Yes! But I only really discovered it when my kids were
young and I was encouraging them to try it.
What film made you cry the most?
Jack and Sarah, I watched it after my children were
born and it gets me every time- I don’t watch it when
it’s on.
Are you more an introvert or an extrovert?
Naturally, I’m more of an introvert but as I’ve got
older I’ve changed what I think and realized that a
simple "hello" to someone can improve someone’s
day. I have actually become more outgoing the older
I have got and it just becomes something I do as it
makes life far more enjoyable.
Have you ever solved a Rubik’s cube?
Only by cheating with a book that tells you how.
Paper round in the morning before school.
What’s your favorite TV show?
Task Master.
What cereal do you eat the most?
Weetabix.
Are you a night owl or early bird?
Unfortunately both - not a good combination.
